hard to beat 1/21/2011

We've eaten at a couple dozen Thai restaurants in Chicago, and still keep coming back to PS Bangkok as the best. Particularly tasty are: steamed dumplings (with rice flour wrapping--so good that the set of 4 will seem too few for 2 people); the fish cakes (Tod Mun); the Nam Sod (with pork--served room temp. and spicy); the Pad Thai with chicken; the Panang curry with beef; the ""pungent"" dish with pork (ginger, black mushrooms & scallions); and the sticky rice with mango for dessert. Prices aren't the lowest in town, but they ain't the highest either. Dinner for 2 with 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes, 1 shared dessert and 2 drinks will come to around $40 (plus tax and tip). Decor is attractive traditional Thai, and the owner is super friendly. more

Best duck curry 7/31/2009

I just love their duck curry. It rocks! Pros: The great food Cons: The parking more

0 fo 2 on P.S. Bangkok 10/28/2008

I've gone to this restaurant for maybe 10 yerars now and always enjoyed the food and service. But a lot has changed, and I won't return. The mismanagement of the place is just incredible. Pros: Nice ambience Cons: Abysmal service more

Nice atmosphere, So-so food 4/14/2007

The space is large and the tables are well-spaced. It wasn't crowded late on a Friday night and the service was decent. It would have been a great place to take a larger group if you didn't want to have to scream to be heard. On the other hand, the food was underwhelming. The offerings, while numerous and reasonably priced, were all quite safe. The curry was decent but not amazing; it had been simmering a little too long such that the sauce had just one flavor rather than the intricate counterpoint I expect from a good Thai curry. Here's my real grievance: I ordered straw mushrooms in a red curry, and they tried to pass off quartered button mushrooms as straw mushrooms. This is positively unacceptable and thanks only to my easily-embarrased friend the manager was spared a verbal reaming. If you're in Wrigleyville and have a large party and/or a vague hankering for Thai, give it a shot. If you're looking for really good Thai food, go to one of any number of restaurants in Little Saigon. Pros: Large quiet space Cons: Substandard food - inauthentic more

Wonderful find! 3/27/2007

Truly authentic and delicious food served in a quiet atmosphere. The perfect place to try a new dish, or to sample old favorites. On a recent vist the Egg Salad- (crispy fried egg over fresh tomato and cucumber in a tangy sweet and sour dressing) was a perfect first course. The Pad See Ew was generously portioned and surprisingly light, and the sticky rice steamed in banana leaf was a fragrant delight. Choose this restaurant over other more trendy and crowded spots for a refreshing and reasonably priced dining experience. more

LOVE THIS THAI!!! 11/9/2006

Me and my partner went here for his promotion and where met with the owner (Susan), wow is all I can say. We live near Midway airport and Thai food is very hard to find, so of course we come ""home"" to the north side once in a while. Susan was so hospitable and gave us a brief overview of Thailand and the food, we were such in aw because she sat with us and attended to us like a friend. For that we thank her, and by the way the food here is beyond anything you can find in Chicago. This is the reason we come back to her restaurant because it is sooooo authentic and real. You will not be dissapointed. And Sundays all you can eat buffet, Oh my.....Thank you. Damian Plaza Pros: Extremely Thai Cons: Parkling can be a bit tricky but still worth it. more

Awesome Curry 3/14/2006

I ordered the red curry with tofu for delivery recently and it was amazing. The portion size was huge, and my favorite thing was that the tofu was not fried like I've had it at every other Thai restaurant I've been to in Chicago. I ordered egg rolls as well and didn't love them, but that was probably just my taste, not an indication of the quality. They have a website which lists the menu, and you can even order online (although I didn't try it). Highly recommended. Pros: Huge portions, Great curry Cons: So-so egg rolls more

Great service, fantastic food and presentation 12/10/2005

This place comes highly recommended. I have eaten at various Thai restaurants, and would return again for the selection and the style of food PS Bangkok prepares. The meat is tender and fresh, the tofu is soft and flavorful. Try the Siam curry noodle on the special list, you won't be disappointed. The oyster beef is also beautifully prepared. Portions are on the bigger side, be prepared to share or have leftovers! The service was impeccable. more

hands down the best thai 6/28/2004

Wow! PS Bangkok Restaurant is by far the best Thai in the city! This is the most authentic Thai restaurant around. Not only do they have a HUGE menu to choose from, they will make almost anything vegetarian too. The owner is devoted to her restaurant and ensures that everything is perfect (including the low prices)! If you havent been to PS Bangkok, you must try it out! - They also have an enormous buffet on Sundays that offer pretty much everything on the menu! You will never walk away hungry! Try it...I know you will like it! Pros: inexpensive, authentic, best thai in the city more

best thai in chicago! 1/9/2003

P.S. bangkok never fails to please. No matter who I go there with, everyone always loves it. The service is friendly and helpful and the thai decor is warm, but most importantly, the food is consistently great. The dishes aren't necessarily prepared in the typical chicago-thai-restaurant style, and the variations are always better than the standard. It may not taste like the paad thai you can get at any other thai place, but it's better here. Also, they'll prepare any dish vegetarian if you ask. Pros: rarely crowded, vegetarian-friendly, best thai in town! Cons: hard to find parking more

Most imaginative Thai food I know of 10/4/2002

PS Bangkok has the most imaginative and consistently good Thai food I've had in Chicago. The owner/chef takes great pride in the quality and authenticity of her dishes. The appetizers and curry dishes in particular are simply amazing, combining spicy, sweet, sometimes sour and aromatic tastes which work well together without being over-powering or run-of-the-mill . The Pad Thai is far from bland.. instead it is slightly spicy and very subtly sweet. Try the Panang curry, the steamed dumplings, or the tom kha kai soup! Pros: inexpensive, consistently good, friendly service Cons: parking in Lakeview more

Authentic tasting Thai food YUM 10/3/2002

I don't think the editorial review does this place justice. The decor is done in lovely Thai style, so who cares if the carpet is worn or the menu is tattered as long as the food is delicious and the service excellent in which case both are true. I've dined in several Thai restaurants and they are all starting to taste the same - Not PS Bangkok the food tastes like I imagine it would taste in Thailand. I think anyone with a more sophisticated palate would enjoy the dining here. The food is freshly prepared, seasoned correctly and well balanced between spicy/garlicky, sweet/savory . I recommend the steamed dumplings and spicy basil chicken. The lemongrass soup is a bit tart, but soothing and tasty nonetheless. This happens to be great place for very good Thai food for locals and visitors. Pros: delicious Cons: hard to find parking more
