New owners and the menu is different. 4/17/2012

New owners and the menu is different. No more table side presentations. Steaks are still great but the salad was not good. Lettuce was wilted and barely any bleu cheese but the hot chocolate cake was the same as before and delicious! I will miss the old Morton's. more

Great food! 2/18/2011

My daughter and I ate here before the ballet at the Keller Auditorium. It was close and we love steak, so thought it a good choice. We loved the presentation of the food, however it was a little daunting not knowing the prices. We ordered steak, each of us, a potato to share, tomatoes with blue cheese dressing, a glass of wine, and a water, and our bill was $260.00. However the tomatoes were huge beefsteak tomatoes with homemade bluecheese that was to die for! The steaks were good, but not worth the price. We saw a collassal shrimp cocktail in the bar, and thought we should have gotten that to share along with the tomatoes and fresh bread and we could have gotten off cheaper and still enjoyed a great meal. The ambience was superb as well as the staff and the attention of the staff. It was a beautiful place to eat. We will definitely go back, but order a bit differently, so it doesn't break the bank! I do believe though that everyone should eat at Morton's at least once in their life! I also have to say I have eaten at a steak house in Seattle, with the same service, ambience, and nowhere near the same price. more

Great Food and Atmosphere! 2/18/2011

My husband and I went to spend some time together. We were readily greeted and taken to our seat. They were even so kind to offer me a black napkin as not to get lint on my all black outfit. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us a visual demonstration of the food they had to offer. We were then given a hot loaf of bread that started off the the evening in the right direction. I had the small filet mignon with bernaise sauce. They cooked it to perfection. It was delicious. My husband had the Chicago style Rib Eye. He too thought they had cooked it perfectly. We paired up our steaks with saut?ed button mushrooms and we also had a side of hash brown potatoes. The atmosphere was beautifully set with lots of wood trim low lighting and the table and chairs were nicely set up too. Our server was very attentive and took care of our every need. I would definitely go again. more

good food, but way over priced 8/29/2010

I went to Morton's steak house because our hotel was close by and my daughter wanted to go into the Koin tower. When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly host and were seated soon after. The place was crowded so I figured that it was a good sign. We were seated close to the cooks which was fine with us because they were fun to chat with. The waitress first informed us of our drink options and I asked to see the menu. I was surpised that she gave me the drink menu which I found funny. She then came up to the table to give us a presentation of the different food options wich included holding up a potato and tomato and showing different cuts of meat which did look pretty good. My daughter is picky and they allowed her to order a burger which is normally served in the bar. After our presentation we finally saw the menu andI was shocked at the price...43.00 to 49.00 just for the steak. I have never been to a high end steak house and my husband wanted to leave at that time but we decided to stay just to see what the steak would taste like. We ended up getting one Porter house steak to split between the two of us and the salad to split. My daughter got her burger and fries. We also order two diet cokes. The salad was wonderful and easily fed two people. The steak was a good size and it tasted good . My husband enjoyed it, but I knew he really wanted a full steak to himself, but for 49.00 a steak, we just couldn't swing it. My daughter's burger was 15.00 and she liked it, but not the fries so my husband ate the fries as his side dish. I also want to add that the service was really good and they were very friendly. Here is my opinion of the evening. The steak tasted wonderful....not 50.00 wonderful, but still wonderful and for 50.00 it should come with soup, salad and potato at no aditional price. I think the ala cart thing is a ripoff. The desserts were way too expensive and I didn't think of ordering a cocktail. The total meal was 83.00 not including the tip for burger, fries, one steak, and one salad. Over all, I would say it was a good experience, but I don't have plans to go back again. more

Consistently Great! 1/5/2010

My husband and I have been going here for years, both for business and for pleasure. We have experienced their catered, private dining and ""regular"" table service. The staff is always gracious and attentive. The food is consistently of high quality and prepared as requested. Yes, this is a national chain, but we are always made to feel welcome and special every time we go. The entrees are served ala carte, just share your sides and ask the salads to be served on split plates. They are happy to do this and the portions are generous. It is a ""special night out"" and has been worth it every time I've gone. Pros: Attentive Service, great food Cons: is expensive, but you get what you pay for more

THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES! 12/16/2008

I went to Morton's on a whim last week after a show at Keller Auditorium. Bad idea. I have never been to a restaurant that so reminded me of the tale ""The Emperor's New Clothes"". Let me preface this by saying that I have no problem paying premium prices for premium food. However, this is the most OVERPRICED FOOD I've ever encountered. DON'T FALL FOR IT! It's a joke! All of the meat choices are at least $40 and come a la carte. All of the samples of meat and fish are ""presented"", as they call it at Morton's, on a tray raw for your inspection. It is just plain tacky. All I wanted was a menu for me and a children's menu for my daughter. No luck on the children's menu. There is NOTHING special about the food. Nothing. It is average but they try and make you think it's special by saying it's ""mid-western grain-fed"" and charging outlandish prices. The potatoes are ""hand-picked"" our server informed us. I guess that's why they charge $8 for a baked potato. The woman who greeted us was wonderful as were the bus staff. Our server was very average and not very attentive, only helping us if he thought I was about to ask him for something. Do yourself a favor and go to HIGGINS or CARAFE which are right in the neighborhood, really unique, have great service and support the local farmers. Pros: Good location. Cons: AVERAGE FOOD and INCREDIBLY OVERPRICED! more

Not worth it.... 9/27/2008

The food was OK. Our server was decent enough. I would not say that either was worth what we paid. Our bill for four was $404 and change. There was nothing over the top bad, just a lot of small 'stuff' that detracted from the whole. It should be a home run every time. more

Mediocre food for expensive price 8/12/2008

During my most recent visit, I found myself unimpressed. I agree with an earlier poster who complained that they lack appropriate silverware -- I do not understand why we are expected to use our steak knives to butter bread. Beyond that, however, the food was lackluster. I had their 5 onion soup (which is just a fancy way to say french onion). The bread in the soup was tough and hard to eat, and I didn't enjoy it at all. The french onion at Red Robin is far superior in quality and price. I also had their crabcakes, which were just terrible. I've never eaten such bland crab cakes before in my entire life. Furthermore, when the waitstaff boxed up my leftovers, they failed to include the mayosauce, so I didn't even have that to dip the bland crabcakes in later. Needless to say, I threw out $40 worth of food last night because I just couldn't make myself eat them (no matter how expensive they were). The cheesecake was moist and delicious, and my tablemates tell me the steak was great. Their Lyonisse potatoes were too salty, and something you could have ordered at Elmers. Overall, not worth the price. I will not be returning. Pros: Great cheesecake and yummy lemon drop Cons: Bland food and very expensive more

Very romantic place, great for a special occasion 2/21/2008

I'm a loyal Ruth's Chris fan, that's usually my spot when I want to drop a couple hundred and be spoiled. What drove me to Morton's were some rave reviews from friends. more

Our favorite steakhouse 11/16/2007

The service is personalized and outstanding in every way. The steaks are excellent. OK, the live lobster on the tray was a bit over the top. The price is high, but for the quality in the cuts of beef and the unbeatable taste, it's worth the extravagance. Be sure to share the sides, they are huge. Pros: steaks, service, comfortable ambience Cons: pricey, over-priced wines more

Over-Rated and Over- Priced Not Romatic 10/24/2007

Was rewarded at work with dinner for 2 at Morton's. Took my wife and not that impressed with the food, except for the salads and the desert. Huge portions but way over priced at dinner for two for $140. Steaks were just OK and the wine was extremely expensive at over $10 per glass. The only way I would go back would be for the company to pay for it and I would actually like to be rewarded a different place. Morton's is over-rated and over-priced. Atmosphere is not that good either. Because there are a lot of loud large group business people dining there, we did not find it warm and romantic either, kind of felt like I was in Las Vegas convention with loud drunk groups, very distracking when I wanted to concentrate on my meal and my wife. Waiters seem pre-occupied with the other larger groups and were very slow. Pros: Salads and Desserts Cons: Slow Service, Average Steak, Very Expensive, Noisy Atmosphere more

Decent steak, but questionable service... 6/9/2007

I was not impressed on my initial visit to Morton's yesterday evening for my husband's birthday. First off, we had to wait close to 10 minutes for the Maitre'D to be located so we could be seated. When he finally took us to our table, he did not even bother to push in my chair for me, which I found rude. On the other hand, our waiter was kind and apologized for the delay in seating us - something the Maitre'D hadn't even acknowledged. When they brought us our bread, I noticed that not only we, but everyone else lacked bread and butter knives. Everyone was using their steak knife to slice and butter the bread, which I found odd. When they brought us our crabcake appetizer (which was good), once again, they failed to furnish the proper utensils (this time appetizer forks) as well. The steaks were good, but I've had better steaks and much better service at Ruth's Chris and Shula's. The highly recommended chocolate velvet cake was bland. I've had better cake at several, smaller restaurants. Overall, our experience at Morton's was poor. The slightly above average food did not make up for the lack of service we received. For a dinner that cost us $200 for two people, I would have expected better service and at least the proper utensils to eat my food with. Ruth's Chris has better cuts of steak prepared in the same way as Morton's (broiled in butter), and great service on the multiple times we've been there. Shula's also had excellent cuts of steak (not broiled in butter, however) and excellent service. We have not tried El Gaucho yet, but it is next on our list. Pros: Crabcake appetizer Cons: Service (Maitre'D), lack of proper dining utensils more

Unbeatable Attention to Detail 5/28/2007

Best service ever, anywhere. We had five people serving our entrees (four at the table). Worth the price - we frequent Morton's for the service. Pros: Service, Food, Desire for Perfection Cons: Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for. more

Great service, not the best steak 2/20/2007

I have been to plenty of wonderful steakhouses, and Morton's didn't quite make the mark. The steak was very good for a steakhouse, but not great. The service by the waitress and server were wonderful and they attempted to cater to your needs. I would say that I have been to other great steakhouses in Portland and Seattle and this experience was Average. Pros: Service, Attention to Detail Cons: Could have been better steak more

What a disappointment the filets are, but the service is impeccable. 2/9/2007

I took my husband to dinner with friends for his birthday on December 30th and what a disappointment. While the service was impeccable, the filets for the price should have been a center cut, but instead it was an end cut with a lot of gristle. When we mentioned this to the manager that we were disappointed, he seemed to be very proud of the fact that they were using all of the filet including the tail. Pros: Lobster Cocktail, Lobster Bisque, and service are OUTSTANDING Cons: FILET AND STEAK DIANE WERE UNACCEPTABLE AND THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE more

Expensive Average Food and Slow Service 12/10/2006

We were there on a Monday, the service was slow, the place was loud. Really bad accoustics, not romantic when it is that loud. Food was not that good and it cost us $150 for 2, we can do better at other Portland restaurants. We were offered free after dinner drinks by the Matre' D but we were too full to accept them. Maybe the regular staff is off on Monday's but no excuse for poor service and food. Pros: Good desert Cons: Average Steaks more

High Priced Mediocre Food - We can do better on our BBQ 10/24/2006

Went to Morton's for my wife's birthday. The wine at $11 per glass was excellent. The salads and grilled asparagus were excellent. Both steaks, Steak Diane (tenderloin) and Steak Oskar were very disappointing. We could have done better on our own bbq with steaks from a local discount chain. The hollandaise on the Steak Oskar was horrible, tasted like wallpaper paste, tasteless. The chocolate cake desert was excellent. For 2 salads, 2 small tenerloins, 2 glasses of wine, 1 vegetable (6 asparagus speers we split), and a desert we split, we paid $168 (including tip). The service at times was slow, not very attentive because they had a large business group in the table next to us, very loud admosphere. For $168 I would have expected gourmet mouth watering food and exceptional service, both were below average. Will not go back. more

Amazing attention to detail! 8/19/2006

My husband and I went to Mortons not knowing what to expect...we were blown away! We love to dine out and have eaten many amazing meals, but Mortons was one of the best! I had the lobster and it was awesome! We will be back soon! more

Wine and Steaks 5/10/2005

Morton's pleases again... detailed service and a friendly waitperson made us feel just fine to hang out for a couple of hours without being rushed. Wine list is extensive and the sales manager dropped by personally to go over some of his favorites. Expensive but worth it... recommend this place highly~ Pros: Detailed Service, Friendly Staff more

Mediocre 4/4/2005

This place is for people that don't know what good food tastes like. The portions are big, but the quality is poor. I want food to melt in my mouth if I am paying $40 a la carte. The service was fine, but the waitress didn't want to give us our menu's until she did her full presentation. To make a server present raw food to each table is just plain odd. It was unusually corny and extremely tacky. We had a gift certificate or else I would have never paid for such a mediocre, overprice meal. I wouldn't go in the future because the crab cakes were bland and overcooked. The steak was done nicely, but it was far from the best steak I have tried. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Bland food more
