This is old school Austin, they don't mess around. Chill, friendly vibe. They are known for their tacos. Come on the weekends for brunch with mimosa and bloody Mary specials. more

Great breakfast spot! 12/12/2009

So after a long debate in my living room last night about the best breakfast tacos in East Austin...Mi Madres won! But don't take our word for this- go grab one and see for yourself. Not as fancy as the newer taco place down the road (chilito) but more of a standby with classics on the menu. Pros: love the tacos more

Delicious Food, Friendly Service 7/22/2008

Mi Madre's is a great breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. The food is great: their breakfast tacos are some of the best I've had in Austin. Some breakfast tacos can make me feel a little queasy in the stomach; something about the ratio of the cheese to the other ingredients perhaps, or maybe the way the beef is cooked. I've never felt this way about Mi Madres' tacos though: they are always delicious and crave-able. They're pretty big too! I also love the sopapillas (toasted fried bread sticks sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar and honey on the side for dipping) and the Mexican hot chocolate. Pros: Delicious food, friendly service, great East Austin ambience Cons: Parking can be hard to find on weekends, only open until 2 pm more

Ok, I eat here all the time and have for years and love love this place like my own home. Pros: tasty migas tacos, great spicy vegetarian refried beans, EXCELLENT service, great atmosphere Cons: coffee leaves room for improvement---That said, if you like drinking cup after cup of diner-style coffee (which I sometimes really do), it can still really satisfy that specific urge more

Mi Madre?s is another restaurant that is fond of the tactic that I hereby dub ?thirding,? what this type of serving represents is when you order Migas and they take up only a third of the plate. Thusly the Migas had roughly a third of the plate to themselves and while they were certainly piled higher than the beans (not so much with the potatoes) they were hardly dominating the plate. more

The Crown Jewel in Breakfast Cafes 1/25/2008

The one thing about Mi Madres is that their fame precedes it . You know the food is great before hand. Our Breakfast-runs at work were preferably destined to Mi Madres even if it is a little out of the way from downtown ATX. They've recently added fruit-cups to the menu and salads. SO smart and thoughtful to give options to the health conscious. The staff is nice, friendly and personable. The owners (the wife and husband) are delightful, always happy to see you, chatty & know their customers by name. more

EXcellent tacos made by real people 1/16/2008

Mi madre's is an eastside land mark that has awesome breakfast tacos. But it doesn't stop there they have Mexican specialties that are sometimes hard to find elsewhere like barbacoa, milanesa, machacado, Cafe de olla, and their Sunday special Mexican Chocolate Waffle (to die for). I can't even believe what the last reviewer said. The family is great and the atomosphere is one of a kind and a true ""Austin"" restaurant. I have to admit that I go there a lot for the guisada with sour cream taco and the breakfast quesadilla. I'm sure you will love it and don't forget to check out the quirky patio outside with all the beautiful plants. Pros: Great food, Sweet staff Cons: Gets busy so I always call ahead for my to go more

Best Breakfast Tacos and the nicest people 12/15/2005

Mi Madre's has delicous, inexpensive breakfast tacos and the friendliest family staff you would ever want to meet. We live in the nieghborhood and absolutely love to go for tacos and coffee. They just expanded their hours to Sundays, too! Don't wait until too late in the day, though - they close at 2 PM. If you're an early bird like me you should know they open at 6 AM weekdays! Such good food you can't go wrong! (...and no, I don't work there and I'm not related to the owner, I just think they're great...) Pros: delicious, good people more

The Best Mexican in Austin 7/23/2002

Their breakfast tacos are the best, but you also want to occasionally save up your calories for Thursday's Brisket Enchiladas special. It is the perfect mix of Austin's signature barbecue and Tex-Mex. I haven't eaten at any Mexican restaurant in Austin that comes close to Mi Madre's.
