High Quality Alterations in Austin 3/12/2011

Over many years, I've received consistently high quality service from Mary and the ladies at Mesa Alterations. I'm very short and always need alterations for my size. Mary has handled wool, chiffon, taffeta, lined and unlined items for me. Everything turns out beautifully. She even re-made some UT shirts (Go Horns!) for me. The styles that I really liked were only made in Man-size. Take your business to Mary and she will make you look fantastic. more

The Best Wedding dress fix up 3/4/2011

After I purchased my dress in my home town, i had the people at the dress shop alter it because it was too long and needed to be taken in a bit, well that was a disaster and I didn't think it could be fixed until my mom recommended her Alterations shop in Austin and I drove down to Mesa Alterations from Ft Worth. Mary understood the issue and made me feel so much better. After a few days I came back for a fitting and the dress fit perfectly. I recommend them highly ...they are nice and very knowledgeable in what they do. more

Best Alterations job 9/11/2008

I was one of eight bridesmade in my friend's wedding in Austin and had to fly from New York. I got here and had very little time to get my dress fitted and altered. Mesa Alterations and specifically Mary were very understanding and worked fast and hard to get my dress altered and ready for the big day. Being from New York I had high expectations and they really delivered. My dress probably looked the best out of the eight. more

RUINED my WEDDING DRESS. DO NOT HAVE YOUR ALTERATIONS DONE HERE!!! 11/8/2007

I had a $3500 Judd Waddell BEAUTIFUL wedding dress. It looked very simple, but for an EXPERIENCED seamtress it actually required great attention to detail and expertise. During the fitting I purposely had the owner, Mary, pin the hem as long as possible, practically touching the ground in the front, but barely taking anything off in the back of the hem. The back of the dress has a folded over piece of silk materiel (as the bust of the dress was silk and from just under the bust organza), that covered the seam of where the silk and organza met, and had three buttons running downward, and to a v-shaped point. When they took in the dress they COMPLETELY DESTROYED the stucture of this delicate folded material, the seam underneath was showing, the balance was off, I ALMOST CRIED (but decided it wasn't worth it). The hem in the front of the dress was MUCH HIGHER then it was pinned at the fitting. I did not want my shoes to show while walking but had no choice at this point. Also, the slip underneath was SHORTER than the top layer of organza, IT COULD BE SEEN THROUGH THE ORGANZA AS SHORTER! The taking in was TOO TIGHT, but fortunately they loosened it a little for me. The owner TAKES NO RESPONSIBITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS!! She said 'we worked very hard on it and we should have charged the $700 that the other seamtress was going to charge you'. I asked her upon our initial meeting if she could do the work without compromising the structure of the dress. SHE SAID YES. I also asked if she would be doing the work on the dress, SHE SAID YES. Yet she didn't, HER HELP DID. When I was waiting for them to take out the dress a little (so I could breathe), I heard her say to her help "why did the slip come out shorter?". Needless to say, $260 lost and the wedding over, no one noticed the details I noticed, and everyone thought the dress was beautiful. But if you want quality alterations go to an experienced and maybe even expensive seamtress. BEWARE MESA ALTERATIONS!!! Pros: NONE Cons: HORRIBLE WORKMANSHIP! DISHONEST! IRRESPONSIBLE! more

Very careless, damaged wedding gown and unwilling to take responsibility 8/29/2007

I took a $5,000 wedding gown to Mesa Alterations for alterations. When I dropped the dress off they had me look at it carefully to see if there was any damage, so that I would know they had not "caused it." We took pictures of the dress during the actual fitting. There was no damage to the dress. When I picked the dress up I immediately noticed a run in the material. I went straight home and compared the pictures we had to taken to verify the run was not their previously and it was not. I found multiple tears in the material with threads sticking out all around the areas where the alterations were performed. I called and let them know the dress fabric had been damaged. They told me because I left the shop with it, I would have to pay for any repairs. (They did not inspect the dress or ask me to inspect the dress when I picked it up. I also did not sign any agreement that said they weren't responsible.) This was after paying $340 for the alterations. I immediately took the dress to another seamstress. The dress has a crystal sash around the hips. She explained that the tears were caused because they did not cover the crystals when they inverted the dress and that is why there were multiple snags in the material. She showed me several other dresses she was working on, and how she had covered any crystal or bead work to prevent this type of thing from happening. They were very careless with my dress, damaged it, and then refused to repair it. I wouldn't go there! Cons: Carelessly damaged my dress and then told me they would charge for the repairs more
