Martini's

My wife and I went to this bar for drinks and karaoke last night and were greatly disappointed. I drank two double gin and tonics and my wife had two fuzzy navels. I ordered double tank and tonics and it tasted like there was no gin in my drink at all. I finished my watery drinks and went to pay the tab, when i was slapped in the face with a $44 bill. I think it is pretty bad when the drinks here cost two dollars more then it does at the ATT center when watching a spurs game. A double tanqueray at the games cost about $12.50. The Karaoke was ok if you dont mind too much treble and a hissing sound coming from the speakers. My wife and I went to a small bar by our house after and I ordered the same drink. The cost at this bar was $8 and it tasted like a double tank and tonic. In all, I would not recommend this bar to anybody, unless you want to get ripped off with overpriced watery drinks and a slow staff with no enthusiasm. The bar we ended up at seemed like a little hole in the wall from the outside, but we were welcomed with a smile and got our moneys worth for what we ordered. Cons: The service is Horrible. more

Servers charge 1 extra dollar per drink just to bring it to your table....then expect a tip. For instance: If you go to the bar for a white wine and a red wine you will be charged $12.00 if a server brings it to the table for you the same thing will cost you $14.00. A large group of us essentially lived at Martinis on Friday and Saturday night during law school. We've been in Dallas for the last two years and recently made a last minute trip down to SA specifically to see Wayne and the band. The experience was just as incredibly fun as it used to be. Wayne even pulled the wife and I on stage for our anniversary and gave us a shout out for coming in from Dallas.\r \r I wish there was a way to recreate this bar near our house but Wayne is the bar. Here's to Johhny Cash, the Beatles, Neil Diamond, Steve Miller, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Elvis, and on and on and on . . .\r \r As for the service, we have never once had an issue in the sixty or seventy times we have been there. In fact, the service is usually quite excellent.\r \r For anyone complaining about drink prices, take note that there is no cover for what amounts to an incredible musical act.\r \r Pros: Best music act in town. From some of these ""Review's"" discriptions, I think they are talking about ""Martini Ranch"" not ""Wayne Harpers Martini's"". Some of these people are confused. \r \r Martini's is in a shopping strip, behind North Star Mall.\r Fri and Sat are Wayne's night, there is no karoke, they don't have food, what they do have is wonderful entertainment in which you cannot sit still or resist singing along....Loudly!\r \r No review has mentioned that the songs he does are not only very good, but he is doing the impressions of the original singer (ie Willy Nelsion, Neil Diamond). It is really cool, when he does a song that was originally recorded by many artisits and he changes the voices as he sings. \r \r Yes, I do agree their drink prices are a little steep(watch for specials!) and you do have to watch your tab (but you should watch it anywhere). And, if it is any indication, you do need to get there before eight thirty to get a seat or table, the place gets really, really packed. \r \r This place is much more fun and exhilirating on a date than dinner and a movie! This is the concept of the best entertainer in San Antonio. A Vegas lounge show and San Antonio prices! \r \r Wayne does his show on Fri and Sat. But there is entertainment every night.\r \r My friends from La Hacienda Los Barrios often stop by there after work.\r \r I have nothing but admiration for the club. Don't take my word for it. Walk inside and see the hustle of barely covered waitresses. If they don't make their sales, they get fired.\r \r Someone called Annette is in charge of them. You get the feeling she'd like all the waitresses to be topless. But not herself. I have to Admit I enjoyed My visit to Wayne Harper's martini Club \r though it is a little small and Wayne's wife was Very Rude I almost Left in till I sat at a Table and got a Hott little waitress she Made it Worth My stay, she Laughed and Joked with me about How Great the Place was, we Sang along She Inshored me Wayne lives up to his great reputation. This is the worst bar! The management was rude and ugly with my party when we asked about our tabs. First off, the martinis were 10.50 each, then when the tab was reviewed, I found drinks added that were not ordered by us. The bartender was rude to us and she allowed our waitress to charge what she wanted. On top of all that, we were charged 25 for gratuity. The entertainment was mediocre, not worth the the trouble. Martini Club will always be the ""best little hole in the mall"" in San Antonio. If the ""gentleman"" (cddheath) who gave the rather scathing review to the club wasn't happy there then he should go elsewhere and I have a few suggestions as to where that might be. I travel 2000 miles to visit just that club. I love the atmosphere, drinks and the fantastic entertainment always offered there. Mr and Mrs Harper are the ultimate hosts and have always worked to serve their clientel. As to the request to stop whistling loudly, remember this is not a ""biker bar"" or a ""strip joint"" so a little decorum is advised as if this would stop this ""gentleman"" and I use the term loosely, from just acting like the obvious idiot he is. This place was horrible. The owner/manager was extrememly rude and the waitresses will steal your change. We had to confront our waitress in order to get our money back. Martini's are $10.50 a pop and on top of that you have greedy waitresses stealing $10 tips!! OUTRAGEOUS!! Do not whistle or clap. We were told not to whistle in an extremely rude manner. Do not go to this place if you want to have a good time, because the atmosphere is awful and management is rude. Horrible hole in the wall! This bar is tucked in the corner of a shopping strip and wouldn't of been a place I'd normally go if some friends hadn't recommended it. We arrived early (disclaimer: this bar is very small, so make sure if you want to sit, come early) and the place was kind of quiet, aside from our group. By 9:30 pm the main act started playing. Very 'lounge-ish' but fun nonetheless. He played a variety of music genres including Rod Stewart and Texas country Robert Earl Keen and Pat Green. One of our group members was whistling during a performance and was repromanded for this for some odd reason (mind you, there were many other patrons whistling as well). \r \r But my main issue with Martini's came when it was time to close my tab. The prices were outrageous! Each martini is $10.50 - I also asked my waitress for water by the end of the night and she charged me $2/each for an 8 oz bottle of water (tap water would of sufficed). Then she tacked on a martini that I never orderdered nor drank (warning: REVIEW your receipt, ask for an itemization). I made the mistake of not reviewing my receipt again after that was fixed and after I closed out my tab and left, she had actually charged me $10.50 for a rum/coke!!! \r \r While I enjoyed the act, the drink prices did not make this place worth it, I'm sorry to say. This bar is one of the most fun clubs I've ever been to. We go on Saturday nights when the owner, Wayne Harper, and his band take the stage. They sing 70's and 80's Vegas lounge music. Van Morrison, Barry Manilow, Jimmy Buffet, and every sing along tune you can remember. If you have a request, write it on a napkin, throw it at his feet and if it attracts Wayne's attention, you'll be singing along with the entire club! They only serve drinks and you might get a basket of popcorn. The place is smokey and standing room only by 11pm, and you won't mind a bit! The group we go with ranges from 30 to 55 years old and everyone can't wait for the next trip! Pros: Any age group will love this place. Cons: Get there early, or stand all night. more

When I have friends come from out of town, we go to the Riverwalk first, then to Matinis. They all say that the first thing they want to do when they come back to SA, is go back to Matinis. The drinks might be a little pricy, but when you consider the entertainment is free, it all balances out. Great for b-days, anniversaries, shoot, any occasion. Wayne is ready to toast anything, even divorces. If it is Friday or Saturday it is Martiniday in my book. Don't tell to many people, as this place gets packed quickly. And remember, get there early and get there often. more

Martini's is not, under any circumstances, a swanky joint. It is a small, outdated karaoke joint. The drinks are very affordable (I suggest the $3 long islands when they're offered), but the atmosphere is lacking. There are a few individuals who know how to sing and do so frequently but many times those who sing look like the bad outtakes of american idol. The clientele includes the epitomy of barflies - middle to late aged women chain smoking in the corner, loud drunk and underage college kids, and randoms who thought they might try a new bar tonight. I've never seen it packed, and many times we're the only ones there. I give this place a five at best but I continue to go because of the cheap drinks and close location. Try elsewhere. I can't get enough of listening to Wayne Harper and drinking all those fun drinks. This club is very versitile offering kareoke during the week and Las Vegas entertainment on the weekend. What a great place to impress your out of town company, hometown friends or just a fun time with your spouse. I have not seen a place like this in San Antonio. Very Unique! more

What a great time for dates and friends. Wayne Harper is San Antonio's premier entertainer. The atmosphere is nostalgic and the Martini girls are exquisite. Drink prices are compatable to similar bars of equal class. One other great thing no cover! more

The Martini Club is an awesome place to enjoy a Friday or Saturday night. The Music is awesome, the wait staff is fantastic, but sometimes, if you're not paying much attention, you can walk out with an empty wallet. Not to say that this doesn't happen at other drinking establishments, but the drinks here are WAY OVERPRICED. That is about my only complaint, however, sometimes we feel like we have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy a good night of drinking and fun at Martini's. Pros: Music and Staff Cons: PRICES more
