Authentic Veracruzan cusine - Specialized in fish and seafood 6/12/2008

I am from the Pacific coast of Mexico, and I love it! Their food is Veracruzana, which is gulf/atlantic side opposite to where I am from so it is always a tasty treat. . Their chilpachole is amazing, remember to dip the bread (toasted bolillo) in the soup. Their ceviche is also mouth watering to remember. The staff is great but they do not take cr@p from pompous people. Hole in the wall gem of Austin. For USA seafood, try Quality Seafood on Airport Blvd. more

Slow service, rude staff, poor food 10/23/2007

I had a contract Engineering job three blocks from this place downtown and have tried several things on their menu (Shrimp Diablo and crab enchiladas among others) and it is definately low grade stuff. Since I would walk all over downtown and eat somewhere hopefully different every day, I went there several times since it was a close walk. Very hard to get back to work in one hour even if you go there just two people, not a large group. Slow service, won't refill your salsa, staff has bad attitude, etc. Pros: Close to work downtown Cons: Poor food and service more

Go somewhere else 10/15/2007

This restaurant is not good. It smells bad, is dirty and does not have any vegetarian or remotely healthy options. You cannot even get a decent salad at this restaurant. The salsa is not great and in a Tex-Mex town, this is unfortunate. There are many better options in the area. Check them out. The mayonnaise covered fish taco was so disgusting that I could hardly stomach to even try it. And this is what they are known for? I feel sorry for people who have not had a better fish taco in this town since there are many - Trudy's, Freddie's, actually just about anywhere that has a fish taco has this place beat. Avoid this restaurant. Pros: Cheap and in downtown Cons: Terrible food more

tourist trap - not real mexican food 8/11/2007

My husband and I are in town for a weekend getaway with out the kids. We made the mistake of getting hungry without planning on where we were going to eat first. So we got sucked in to this place. I live in texas so I know what good mexican food is. Unfortunately the Salsa was quite mild and almost sweet. First bad sign of things to come. The ""coctel de camarones y pulpo ""was also sweet and bland. And the worst fish taco i have ever had in my life. It was chopped up fish in maynonaisse with tomatoes. flavorless americanized dish. truely amazing that they get away with serving this. its totally our fault for falling for a tourist trap. Pros: location Cons: food is bland and boring more

Great food and service 8/22/2005

Went on a Saturday evening and found the staff very friendly and attentive. The frozen Margaritas are delicious. My biggest complaint is that I didn't know I could have had 3 crab enchiladas instead of the standard 2. We're talking real crabmeat. Mmmmm, mmm mmmm. Crab meat. Pros: Delicious, Reasonable, Big screen tv more

Rude Staff 7/18/2005

I found the staff at Marisco's to be very rude and short after asking just basic questions. I felt like they were hurrying my party out and wanted to rush us to get more tables seated. Pros: Food Cons: Rude Staff, Service more

Great Chicken Flautas! 7/2/2005

good mexican seafood!!!!! located at 6 street , a great place to eat with the kids or with a large family! more

Margaritas! WOW! 11/7/2003

This small restaurant is really a hidden gem. The food is so great- definately mamma's home recipe! Tortilla soup is a meal for two- pair that with a quesadilla and a couple of margaritas- frozen or on the rocks, they pack a punch, so be careful! Service is freindly and prompt, and ever gracious. A great spot for watching the club scene from a not so loud, but still cheerfully vibrant establishment. Pros: food, margaritas, price more
