Terrible Service! Great Dessert 9/16/2010

My friends and I were seeing a play at the theater and decided to eat at Kevin Taylor's before the play. When we got there we were amazed by the beautiful setting. We chatted with the host before we were seated and he was very kind. When we were seated everything went downhill from there. The waitress was very rude, we waited for 20 min as we watched her talk to the bartender and another waitress before greeting us and taking drink orders. Throughout the meal I had to ask at least 3 times for her to refill mine or my friend's water glasses. We did have a fantastic cheesecake dessert with fresh fruit that was especially tasty, but otherwise the food was average, and therefore disappointing considering how expensive everything was. When it came time for the check, she immediately brought up the bill and told us that 20% gratuity was required. We told her the service was terrible and I would not be tipping as such. When I asked to speak to the manager, she said that gratuity was just suggested and not actually required. Overall not a great experience, I would recommend only going for their cheesecake. The rest of the food is over priced and the staff are rude and pretentious. more

Not that great! 2/18/2010

After I asked for my steak to be medium rare, I got a tough well-done steak. Add that to my mothers uncooked salmon. The waiter was rude and unhelpful. Even after I asked for a coke it took ten minutes for me to have to literally stand up and go to the bar and ask for it myself. I have eaten all around denver and this service was on the top of the bad list. Especially for a meal costing over $100. Even when I emailed the manager to complain, he never responded. Save your money or go to somewhere else in Denver Pros: ambiance Cons: food, wait staff more

Very bad service and tiny portions of food 1/1/2010

The wait staff was extremely slow. They spent most of their time by the kitchen door talking and ignoring the customers. My order was put in wrong, lamb vs Ahi, so when it finally arrived had 10 minutes to eat, pay and get to the show. Wife's portion of fish was a 4 inch square, 1/2 inch thick peice of snapper. Fish served on a bed of half cooked hard tastless beans. Couldn't even get a refill on our water. $75.00 spent badly !!!! Cons: Service staff and food more

Not Good 11/29/2009

We went to KT at the Opera before a Nutcracker performance on Nov 28th. Service was terrible, took 30 minuters to get wine. I traveled the world for a large oil company that rated restaurants. This one would rate 1 star. Cold entrees, beans like they came from a can with 3 tiny potato like chips. If there plan is to have people come just once then they are right on. We need more restaurants like Bistro Vendome where service is excellent and the food to die for. Pros: Decor Cons: Terrible service, poor food more

A good dining experience 5/6/2008

We recently went to Kevin Taylor's before a show at the Opera House. The dining area is very beautiful and our waitress was very good. The food was good. The cheese plate appetizer is wonderful and included very good cheeses, grapes, crackers, and a salmon and goose liver pate. The salads were very good and well presented. The entrees were good however we asked for both the tuna and steak to be served ?very rare? and they came out medium rare. We did not complain as we had a show to see and did not have the time to stay longer but would have preferred if the meats were less well done. This is obviously a personal preference. Pros: Cheese plate more

Not worth the cost --- even at discount 3/2/2008

My husband and I went here for restaurant week where we paid $52.80 for a 3 course meal for 2. We were told by some friends about the Kevin Taylor restaurants so we were excited.... that is, until we got there and actually ate the food. For the first course, they had a choice between pumpkin soup, a romaine salad, or some kind of salad with yogurt dressing. My husband had the pumpkin and said it was disappointing and I had the salad with yogurt dressing that turned out to be the most boring thing I had ever had. Think bagged salad and put a dollop of store bought yogurt on it. As an entree, I had the pumpkin gnocchi and my husband had the steak. He said the steak was decent but we've made better at home, and my gnocchi was tasteless. I had the chocolate cupcake for dessert that was dry and my husband had the cheesecake which he actually liked. I thought the service was good but the food was very poor. I know Kevin Taylor has many restaurants in Denver. He has a reputation for serving great food but I can imagine that if you have 5 restaurants, you will have others working for you, which is going to bring down the quality of the food. Before we left, they even gave us certificates to come back and dine for 2 for $52.80 here or at Prima Ristorante. After reading reviews about Prima too, I really doubt we're going to use these certificates or ever visit another Kevin Taylor restaurant again. A note to Kevin Taylor: think quality, not quantity! more

Beautiful 4/9/2006

I enjoy the beatiful art here very much, and the friendly bartenders were very informative about the unique paintings. I will mention I thought the crab cakes were delicious. The food is presented well, and the service is friendly. I hope this restaurant receives it's due attention and credit. Pros: Service, Art Cons: Quiet more

A great new restaurant! 1/31/2006

How much better a location could you ask for? The restaurant is spacious and beautiful; the bar looks like a lot of fun. The service is great, the people are friendly and professional, and the food is wonderful, of course. What else would it be, with Kevin Taylor at the helm? The salmon was excellent. Tomorrow I will try the smoked sweet corn soup with barbeque shrimp and guacamole (yum) and the arugula salad with tomato, basil, mozzarella dnd parma ham. Sounds good! Pros: well located, great ambience, fabulous food more

Must Have Been a Bad Night 11/17/2005

Went before a show... Crab cake was bland and not what one would expect for $12. The scallops were fishy tasting, tough, rubbery, and generally inedible - for $25. The restaurant was closing early to serve hundreds of people for a reception, and, based on the reviews I have seen for the other Kevin Taylor restaurant, I have to believe the quality of food suffered for it. We won't be back to find out. Pros: Location, Service Cons: Quality, Taste, Expensive more
