She ain't what she used to be 3/18/2012

I could swear the steaks at Jim's used to be sliced fresh on a slicer and then grilled without chopping the meat much at all. Now it is so finely chopped it might as well be hamburger meat and I don't think it is sliced fresh for each order either. I would say the steaks were average. They leave the back door open also with plastic strip hanging in the doorway. Wonder how many unwanted visitors of the non-human kind might find their way in that way? I don't get the crowds waiting for a mediocre steak. more

Best Cheesesteaks PERIOD! 3/15/2012

I have tried Pat's and Geno's, and let me tell you...they are JUNK compared to Jim's!!! Even with the traffic of South Street and hunt for a parking spot do not stop us from going to Jim's. Pat's and Geno's could be offering free steaks, we would STILL go to Jim's. If you haven't already had a Jim's...well what are you waiting for???? more

They type of cheeswit that melts 1/8/2012

Authentic steaks right here.... 3/10/2011

Great place to grab a steak sandwich....when any of my friends are in from out of town this is where we go hands down. Sometimes you will be waiting in line, but that is to be expected....its worth the wait, trust me! This place lives up to the hype, check it out. more

JUST ATE AT JIM'S 1/28/2011

I just got into Philly while on business, I stayed at the Omni, had a beer at the bar and asked the bartender how far Pat & Genos were from the hotel, with a look of disgust on his face, he said it was in south philly and was a decent drive. He then said that they were over hyped , over rated and I must go to Jim's, several patrons at the bar chimed in and said JIMS STEAKS! you have to try em more

Best Around 1/22/2010

After reading the bad reviews on this site, I knew I had to say my piece. These are the best cheesesteaks in Philly. They also have another location in Northeast Philly which is much bigger. Anyway, they are simply amazing. Anyone who says differently doesn't know what a true cheesesteak should taste like (especially those out-of-towners)! Trust me, if you want a real cheesesteak and some delicious cheese fries to go with it, go to Jim's Steaks. You won't regret it! Pros: Fast service, best cheesesteaks. Cons: A bit expensive. more

Good Steaks 11/21/2009

Went to Jim's yesterday and it was goooood. Upstairs seating was a plus. Pros: Cheese steaks are awesome Cons: Employees are rude more

This place was awful 10/10/2009

When I visited Philadelphia today my friend said you must go to Jim's Steaks. I was amazed when I saw the long lines and smelled the aroma of the cooking. I have eaten cheesesteaks all my life so I feel I know a good one from a bad one. Jim's Steak unfortunately was a bad one. First it arrived with little meat. The cheesesteak was completely tasteless and so bland that I had to eat it together with potato chips just to get the taste of salt to possibly blend with this tasteless sandwich. In addition the staff were placing tomatoes in containers without any gloves. In fact I observed staff eating food with their fingers as they served customers. Not the most sanitary place. It is one thing if you come here just because you see the long lines but if you are a repeat customer and really feel this place is any good.....then you have to wonder are your taste buds awake or asleep. The whole experience has made me want to be a vegetarian. Pros: Absolutely None Cons: Taste, Price and the Long Lines more

Umm?? 6/1/2009

I was visiting from LA and hadn't been in Philly for awhile and much to my surprise I've ordered cheesesteaks in California that were 10 times better than this. The workers were all rude, didn't put enough cheese whiz on my steak and charged me out the ***. If you're visiting Philly, do Pat's or Geno's, but stay away from this dump. Pros: The upstairs was kind of cool Cons: Employees looked like they were all on work release more

Amazing 4/14/2009

This was the best. I had a cheesesteak at jim's and I craved more. Then I visited pats, Pats had bad food and the didn't care at all about you. If your in phillie and you want a cheesesteak visit jim's and not pat's Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Rude Service, Moody Employees 3/25/2009

The service at this dump is downright rude and indifferent. The lazy employees have an attitude problem and don't care about friendly service with a smile. Cons: Rude Service, Mediocre Cheesesteaks, Overpriced more

Pat's or Geno's? Nope - Jim's! 3/23/2009

Think the best steak & cheese in Philadelphia can be found at either Pat's or Geno's? Wrong! It's at Jim's! Pros: Best Steaks Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Best cheese steak in philly 3/18/2009

It's all in the cheese wiz!!! Pros: Best cheese steaks in Philly Cons: The wait is a bit much but definitely worth it more

Great Cheesesteak! 12/14/2008

Tourists to Philadelphia - Do what the locals do. We locals know that Pat's and Geno's are two tourist traps living off of their prior reputations. If you want to have a great cheesesteak, you don't have to go any farhter than Center City. Jim's Steaks offers the best! Forget the cheese whiz (which I always said was simply disgusting) - go for the provolone. You might experience a long wait - that should tell you something positive is about to be served to you. Pros: Best cheesesteak in Center City, Philadelphia Cons: Seating area is not the best more
