WOW! I checked on the review on this place. And its great. huge portions, small feel, good service. I went for our anniversary it was lovely, we sat in a nice booth. I had the shiskabobs with ribeye and filet. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Topped with this cheese. Wonderful! I would go back and recommend to anyone! My hubby loved his too! more

Best steak in Seattle 3/28/2009

We go out to dinner just about every weekend and we try to go to a different place each time. Jak's Grill might be the best steak we have ever had in Seattle. My husband ordered the 40oz porterhouse and I had the petite filet. Both were excellent and cooked to perfection. The appetizers and sides were also AMAZING. The only ""con"" would be that the bread that they give you is not that great, but who cares...everything else was A+. I had a couple of lemon drop martinis and they were incredible and very reasonably priced! Everything was so delicious we had to order dessert and the desserts did not disappoint. I found the staff to be very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed, not pretentious at all. We will definitely return very soon. Pros: food, drinks, prices Cons: the bread more

BEWARE, NEW STAFF RUDE AND UNFRIENDLY 10/29/2008

In the past month I have had (3) brunches and a lunch and loved it until this past Monday. My 85 yr old mother in law went in at 4:45pm to meet my wife, son and his girlfriend. She was told she couldn't sit down, couldn't get a table, they would not speak to her when she asked a question. My wife came at 5:05 pm and was told they couldn't get a table for (4), had to eat in the bar where there was no space with the exception of a table for four. After conversations, the table was set and they agreed (2) would have happy hour and when the other two arrived pay full price. Well, they waited and when they finally gave their drink order they were told they couldn't be served. Quietly they both rose and said to hostess and server, ""with the state of the economy I would think customer service would be first and foremost"" and left. They went next door to the Matador, were greeted warmly, seated, drink order take and food order as well. Excellent meal and we've vowed not to go back until the Manager is apprised of the situation. Pros: Excellent brunch and the steaks wonderful Cons: Hostess and some wait staff very rude, must be new. more

A little inconsistent but Great Steak 8/3/2008

I took my boyfriend to Jak's Grill for his birthday because we had both been wanting to try it. Overall the experience was very nice. The hostess was very accomodating - moving us to another booth at our request when we were first seated. Our server was gracious as well - she explained the differences in the cuts of steak and was quick to ask us if we'd like more drinks when they were getting low. The bread did taste stale, which was a shame but not a huge deal. My boyfriend loved his steak, the chef prepared it to a perfect medium rare. My Salmon entree, on the other hand, which I asked to be prepared Medium Rare as well, came out Well done. It had close to no moistness and very little flavor - which is what happens when you overcook fish. The only other thing that was not enjoyable was the vegetable - some huge pieces of broccoli and carrot with little to no flavor - quite unappetizing. On a good note, we both loved the spinach salads and our wine was teriffic as well. more

Flavor for dollar can not be beat 6/13/2008

Living a couple blocks away from Jak's Grill, I've had the pleasure of enjoying my carnivorous side at JaK's Grill in West Seattle. While they've raised their prices over the years, they have still remained one of the best steakhouses in the greater Seattle area and certain, I think, the best steakhouse, dollar for dollar. JaK's supposedly gets their midwestern beef from the same suppliers as El Goucho's and other fine steakhouses. True or not, I've never met a piece of beef there I've never liked. Pros: Top Value, Quality Beef, Good Portions, Great Service Cons: No Reservations, No Prime Rib but awesome Ribeye more

Be aware 6/11/2008

Got sick the last time I ate there. Terrible wait and bad service. The hostess was hostile and did not care about the long wait. We have had good experiences before and the food was good. This last time, it was crowded and the service was bad. I would not go in a large group or after 6:30. The wait can be up to 2 hours. We will not return. more

What's that on your plate? 4/18/2008

The Laurel Hurst location My original review was typed over, or, may have been deleted. But I will say it again. In taking friends to JaK's in Laurelhurst, my girls' brother went to the bathroom, and found himself chattering it up with one of the line cooks/supervisor Ron or Ronny whatever. Pros: Unquestionably Trusted Great Safe Food......Once Cons: What's that on your plate? more

Best Steak in Seattle 4/9/2008

Best steak in Seattle. The skewers are to die for. They cook a little on the rare side at this place, but they usually warn you before you order. The potatoe pancakes are a work of art. I dream about them! Pros: Amazing food, great service, good date spot Cons: no reservations more

GREAT SERVICE-THE BARTENDER IS GREAT! SHE MADE THE WAIT GO BY FAST! 4/9/2008

THE FOOD AND SERVICE AT JAKS IS GREAT! THE ONLY THING THAT RUINS THE NIGHT IS LISTENING TO THE TALL CHEF WITH THE CELL PHONE IN HIS EAR YELLING AT THE SERVERS! FOR THE PRICES THEY ASK AT JAKS IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE CHEF WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE WILLING TO MAKE SPECIAL REQUESTS. ( MY WIFE IS A LITTLE FUSSY). HE JUST MAKES THE PLACE LESS COMFORTABLE THAN IT SHOULD BE. WHEN HE GOES...WE WILL BE BACK! Pros: GREAT SERVERS Cons: NO PRIDE IN THE KITCHEN more

all good except that tall dude 3/26/2008

I had a wonderful dinner the other night. Sat at the bar with a couple friends. Had the pork medallions. The bartender was cool, i think her name is Leslie. The only thing i found weird was the open kitchen. Where i am into the open kitchen as an idea i was distracted by the tall chef with the ear piece yelling alot. Why so angry dude. Other than that is was awesome...i know it's a steak house but try the pork medallions. Yum. more

very good steak, and good wine selection 3/10/2008

food is good, i love their beef steak. Their wine is excellent but very expensive.it is a good place to bring your date to and service is excellent more

Even brunch is great!! 2/19/2008

My husband and I have only recently moved to the West Seattle neighborhood and one of the first places we were told to go was Jak's. We loved our dinner experience, both getting fab steaks, wine and dessert for less than what we would spend on drinks and appetizers downtown... when we were there we were told about the newly started brunch so we decided to check it out. We were both very impressed... my husband had a fillet & Bearnaise Benedict on those potato cakes they are know for and i had the biscuits and gravy- yummy! Our lively yet attentive curly haired server really took good care of us, making sure our couple buck bloody mary's Pros: fun food and super service on a weekend morning Cons: hard to not clean your plate more

Best Hamburger Ok Steaks 12/3/2007

Great Service, Long waits on busy nights, no reservations. The hamburgers are excellent. They need a good IPA on tap. more

Finally Real Service to Go with the Real Food..... check this out! 11/30/2007

We go out all the time..... I dont care what a place has on the menu . Most times I get whats good there anyway. I Hate Bad service! Who dosen't?! Well I was up in the air about Jaks in west seattle . I now have a favorite! Jaks!! --- So after the same great steak I've had so many time s , My food was on time and I loved our server! Her name was Annie! We had just the best ""upgrade experience"" I say that because there was a problem with my wife s wine -problem solved, before it started. she exchanged our glass and left both a great wine and, taste in our mouths! I fyou Ever get the chance , look for a gal with brown?red hair chin lenghth. Our favorite server there! thanks ! Pros: service Cons: happy hour specials more

Great Atmosphere and Food! 10/13/2007

I have been in about 4 times, everytime i get seated very fast. Even when it's busy! The Chefs have really got the cooking of the food down to an art. The only thing I dont like is the salad Dressing. Small complaint it is very lacking in taste. But, Steaks are always cooked to perfection.....Will recommend and be back!! Pros: Chefs Cons: salad dressng more

JaKs Remains Best in Town 10/13/2007

Interesting. My wife and I went out on a date night from the kids and had a great meal and overall experience at JaKs (W. Seattle) as anticipated. Upon coming to the CitySearch site to post my compliments to the JaKs family, I found it very interesting about a couple of the reviews from others who felt their experience was sub par. In one case, a person and his wife went out to dinner at a time when the kitchen would be closing and yet feel their service was not satisfactory? From what I understand, JaKs was formed with the objective of being a neighborhood place where every guest is treated equally and are exposed to a meal and atmosphere all with a value that is easily the best in town. I am continually impressed that while JaKs continues to expand its menu, offer more creative specials, and now operating 3 locations that their food, service and value is STILL the best.. Maybe these posers who want the world to stop at their feet can go downtown and rub noses with the other big timers and leave our our secret (JaKs) to those of us who appreciate it. more
