Great place to hang out with friends 4/21/2008

I'm a big fan of Irish Pub on Thurs, Fri, or Sat nights. The fact my friends live only a few blocks away doesn't hurt, but there are plenty of other bars in the area and we often choose to go to Irish. It's what you'd expect from an Irish pub - plenty of beer, Irish-looking decor, bar food, and young professionals. But Irish seems friendlier than most somehow. They often have good specials ($2 drafts), and the "chicken thumbs" are in fact more meaty than their finger-shaped compatriots. There are multiple areas for whether you want to dine, chat with a few friends, or hang out at the bar. While they sometimes charge a $2 cover, you really can't complain about such a measley fee for entrance to such a fun place. Pros: friendly atmosphere, good drink specials Cons: none more

Rude Bartenders 9/16/2007

Rudest bartenders. Not just one of them, but they were all very rude and unwilling to help. Left after 10 minutes, will not be returning. more

Laid Back Fun 5/30/2004

The Irish Pub is a great night out. The staff is great, food is reasonably priced and good, and drink specials run constantly. You can go for happy hour, stay till Midnight, and still have plenty of money left in your pocket to make a Wawa trip. Great place to watch sporting events. A nice crowd - good-looking girls on the weekends. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Menu more

Poser! 1/12/2003

The Irish Pub is exactly the opposite of what the title suggests....IRISH! I was extremely disappointed in the overall lack of Irish ambiance. It's a trap for those fools who have no idea what it means to be Irish. Check out the Plough, its a little pricey, but they got it down to a tee. more

Right On! 10/26/2002

I really enjoy this place 10/3/2002

This is the best place for a good hearty lunch, a great office party, or just to relax after shopping. I truly find this place to be one of the best in town. As many years as I have worked in town, I never miss the chance to go to the Irish Pub. Once you are seated, it is very easy to forget to return to work since the food is filling and the service is great. Keep up the good work. Pros: good food, good service, great value more

best spot in town!! 10/2/2002

Want to go to a bar where the people hanging out actually talk to each othere, even if they don't know you?? Then the Pub is your place! Great bartenders, good music, warm atmosphere! And when you leave you may actually have some money left! Pros: great food, bartenders Cons: sometimes crowded more

fraud 9/26/2002

Ranking this a beer bar is rediculous. It's a pick-up bar for guys and girls from Jersey no respectable Philadelphian would step foot in this joint. They have crap beer that you can find at any chain restaurant, you wouldn't know the difference if they put Fridays on top of it. Thats like saying Bud is the best beer in the world because it sells the most, if thats the case give me a bad beer! Butch Pros: Bad imported beer, Guinnes is owned by t more

Maybe it's not the most authentic Irish bar in town, but don't tell that to the crowds of students who flock here.

Editorial
  • In Short
Beautiful hardwood floors, an immaculate first-floor bar, booths perfect for conspirators and a regular crowd of young student types. The Irish Pub's rowdy crowd is a smattering of Penn and Drexel students and young professionals who work in Center City. Televisions upstairs and down broadcast the day's games while the two bars keep the crowd lubed.
