WARNING: \r
GENE BROWN no longer owns these stores.\r
\r
We went there based on prior reviews, big mistake.\r
We began our ordeal dealing with the owners son, who was more interested in texting than discussing our transmission.\r
He test drove the car and the initial estimate to repair the transmission was $1,300.00, which was about $1,000.00 less than we had been quoted from another shop. \r
\r
Apparently, this is how they pull you in.\r
\r
Once they had the transmission apart, then the estimate quickly changed to $2,500.00 and we were told that if we did not want to proceed, they could put the transmission back together, but they could not guarantee that it would make it home.\r
Faced with this, we decided to go ahead with the repairs since it was still in the ballpark that we had been quoted at another place.\r
\r
The two days to rebuild our transmission quickly became a week. The big problem here was communication. \r
No one ever bothered to call let us know about the delays. We had to call them just to be told, there were ""problems"".\r
Each time they would give us another ready date, my wife would sit around all day waiting, and unless she called them, no one would call to let her know that the car would not be ready as promised.\r
\r
Finally the car was ready and my wife picked it up. At this point, we had now paid $2,500.00.\r
\r
When my wife picked it up, she was told it had a 12,000mi/12 month warranty.\r
However, ""rebuilt"" transmission had the same problems that it had when we took it in. \r
Apparently the 12/12 warranty did not apply because after another week, we were given the option to have a professionally rebuilt transmission installed at an additional cost ($500.00) or continue on with our freshly rebuilt at an estimated $800.00+, since they had no idea what was wrong and they would just start replacing things.\r
At this point, we were dealing with the ""owner"" Ron. He honestly had no clue what was wrong with the transmission.\r
\r
We decided to go with the ""professionally"" rebuilt transmission. \r
As some other reviews have mentioned, the problems with the ""professionally"" rebuilt transmission were our fault.\r
\r
The motor mounts were old and they broke them when they replaced the transmission. \r
Ron generously offered to replace them for his cost of the parts only. Next, he determined the spark plugs were causing problems with the new transmission, again, offered to replace them and charge us only his cost of parts.\r
\r
So, we finally picked up the car for an additional $1,100.00.\r
Turns out he decided to replace an oxygen sensor he felt might be causing problems. \r
\r
We have now paid $3,600.00 and still have to take the car to another mechanic and pay to have everything Ron did checked out. \r
\r
We simply do not trust anything they did or charged us for. \r
