Friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy! I was worried about bringing my foreign car there because so many shops specialize in American made cars but they were ready to work on my 2009 BMW M3. I was given a good military discount from a coupon I downloaded from the website- and that's always a plus lol. I was worried when I was told they would need to run an internal diagnostic until my dad (who is a former mechanic) told me that's normal procedure. They worked with my on price and allowed me to time to pay it off then pick my car back up. When I came to get it this morning, it was clean and all ready to go. Much ""AGGIE"" love to Garret and his crew.... even though they are UT fans lol. Thanks guys! ;) -Suz more

Guys I can't thank you enough for making everything smooth. I visited about 4 other transmission shops before deciding to do business with Gene Brown's Transmission. It wasn't all about price for me. I was focused more on professionalism and from the moment I step on the property, I was made to feel important. I really appreciated that. Garrett did a great job keeping communication open and letting me know what to expect. Thanks again for getting me back on the road. two thumbs up for Gene Brown.I highly recommend them! more

I admit they won me on price. I was quoted just over $3k to have my transmission rebuilt on my 2008 Camry and they gave me a better price and a better warranty. They would not tell me what they did not know. They would not speculate and they did not try to up sell me. I definitely recommend Cris at Gene Brown. Good price and good work on my car. more

I was referred to Cris at Gene Brown by a good friend of mine. I took my Ford Mustang in because the tranny was slipping after 1st gear. They were straight up about the process and the pricing was pretty good. I appreciate the honestly and fast work. Definitely recommend them! more

I visited the austin highway location because it was close to the walmart I work at. My engine was making loud sounds and jumping into gear quite hard when I drive it. I spoke with Chris about it and he ran a diagnostic on and told it wasn't a transmission problem and I didn't have to spend too much money. THANK GOD!!!!!!!!! He had my car finished within 2 days and drove across the street to me at the walmart where I work. That was really nice of him. I definitely recommend Gene Brown and Cris. Good people. more

My vehicle would not start no matter what I tried. called numerous shops to get advise, the only shop that would give me the time of day, because I can get long winded, was Gene Brown transmission. I replaced the fuel pump thinking the vehicle wasn't getting fuel. Chris advised me to check to see if I was getting fire. Called him back to advise him that I was not getting fire. He advised me to have vehicle towed to his shop and the initial diagnostic charge would be waived. The security system was not allowing vehicle to start. Turns out to be that the spare key I had made was not programmed to my Ford Explorer. They charged me a fair price to reprogram my key and also waived the tow fee. The repair was actually done in one afternoon. I would recommend his shop to anybody. . more

WARNING: \r GENE BROWN no longer owns these stores.\r \r We went there based on prior reviews, big mistake.\r We began our ordeal dealing with the owners son, who was more interested in texting than discussing our transmission.\r He test drove the car and the initial estimate to repair the transmission was $1,300.00, which was about $1,000.00 less than we had been quoted from another shop. \r \r Apparently, this is how they pull you in.\r \r Once they had the transmission apart, then the estimate quickly changed to $2,500.00 and we were told that if we did not want to proceed, they could put the transmission back together, but they could not guarantee that it would make it home.\r Faced with this, we decided to go ahead with the repairs since it was still in the ballpark that we had been quoted at another place.\r \r The two days to rebuild our transmission quickly became a week. The big problem here was communication. \r No one ever bothered to call let us know about the delays. We had to call them just to be told, there were ""problems"".\r Each time they would give us another ready date, my wife would sit around all day waiting, and unless she called them, no one would call to let her know that the car would not be ready as promised.\r \r Finally the car was ready and my wife picked it up. At this point, we had now paid $2,500.00.\r \r When my wife picked it up, she was told it had a 12,000mi/12 month warranty.\r However, ""rebuilt"" transmission had the same problems that it had when we took it in. \r Apparently the 12/12 warranty did not apply because after another week, we were given the option to have a professionally rebuilt transmission installed at an additional cost ($500.00) or continue on with our freshly rebuilt at an estimated $800.00+, since they had no idea what was wrong and they would just start replacing things.\r At this point, we were dealing with the ""owner"" Ron. He honestly had no clue what was wrong with the transmission.\r \r We decided to go with the ""professionally"" rebuilt transmission. \r As some other reviews have mentioned, the problems with the ""professionally"" rebuilt transmission were our fault.\r \r The motor mounts were old and they broke them when they replaced the transmission. \r Ron generously offered to replace them for his cost of the parts only. Next, he determined the spark plugs were causing problems with the new transmission, again, offered to replace them and charge us only his cost of parts.\r \r So, we finally picked up the car for an additional $1,100.00.\r Turns out he decided to replace an oxygen sensor he felt might be causing problems. \r \r We have now paid $3,600.00 and still have to take the car to another mechanic and pay to have everything Ron did checked out. \r \r We simply do not trust anything they did or charged us for. \r \r more

My ex-wife has a Durango and she has been having some car trouble in the mornings. So who does she call ME! I called the local dealership to let them know what was going on with her car and they said it would probably be the alternator and it would cost me around $530.97 parts and labor. I was ready to take her Durango over there when a buddy of mine recommended Gene Brown Transmissions. I was hesitant at first because I have always gone to the dealerships for work on any vehicle of mine. I ended up calling them and the quoted me $289.95 parts and labor and I decided to go with them. I picked up her car two weeks ago and it has been running great. I am very thankful for Gene Brown Transmission and my buddy for the recommendation. Pros: Knowledgeable and helpful more

ABOVE AND BEYOND 7/22/2010

I have been going to Gene Brown Transmissions for about 2 years now and every time I am completely satisfied. As for this last time they went completely out of their way to help me out, I needed to make sure that my truck would pass for inspection. They fixed my brake light and horn, but to my amazement when I got my vehicle back the inspection was already taken care of for me. Thank you for all your help. Pros: They do what ever it takes to satisfy their costumers. Cons: NONE!!!!!!!!! more

Best place to get shafted 10/27/2009

I took my truck to Gene Brown Transmission/Total Auto Care on Grissom Rd to have the ignation fixed. They fixed part of it but left other parts not done. In other words did a half way job. Took it back as the gear indicator would not work and the ignation would not go into aux. They changed out the whole ingation thing even though they had told me would not have to do anything to the part the key goes in. The gear indicator still did'nt work so called spoke to Ron Guiterrez. He said was their fault and they would fix it for the price of the part. Took the truck back in (3rd mistake). When I went to get it they had charged me $199.12 instead of the $29.00 Ron told me it would be. Said I had to pay or not get my truck OR they would take ALL their parts off the truck. Had no choice but to pay it. Thank goodness put it on my c.c. This Ron and his so called mechanics need to be run completely out of town on a rail. They lie, cheat, steal anything they can do and get away with it. Wonder how many others they have given the shaft. AND has anyone noticed? On their sign they have the Christian Fish. Yeah they sure should put that up. Pros: there are no pros Cons: they lie, cheat, what ever they can do to make dollars more

Friendly and I was pleased with repairs 10/20/2009

I was referred to Gene Brown Transmission by a friend. I have always taken my vehicle to the dealer. I want only genuine volvo parts on my vehicle. I have a 02 Volvo. I was experiencing shifting problems and my check engine light was flickering.. I had my vehicle towed and Cris explained in detail what the techs would diagnois. I was very pleased with the price and he had my old parts in the new parts box for me to look at. He walked me through each repair performed. I will refer this shop to my friends. Pros: saved me loads of money. more

Very Satisfied Customer 8/14/2009

As a repeat customer of over 3 years I thought I would write a review. I have a 99 honda civic, 04 Ford F-150 and a 01 Mercedes. Cris has been the manager since I first brought my 99 Honda Civc in for a diagnostic for gears sticking. I needed a new transmission but he was able to rebuild my old transmission at a fraction of the cost and in a timely manner efficient manner. Cris kept in contact with me each step of the way. Offered a payment plan and an awesome warranty. I have since brought my 01 Mercedes and 04 Ford F150 for regular maintaince that the dealer would charge me an arm and a leg. In this economy I highly recommed this shop. They save all old parts for your review and completely walk you through each repair required.. Pros: Fast Friendly Service more

Avoid doing business with this place on friday or any other day of the week. 8/29/2007

I took my vehicle to G.B. trans. to have the air removed from my hydraulic clutch system and explained that all of the components had been recently changed out. When I went to pick up my vehicle they had changed out all the components that had been recently changed and my vehicle shuddered when I shifted gears, and had a vibration when it was running. I talked with the owner and he asked me the first time I noticed the vibration, I told him that I noticed it on the drive home from his shop. He told me that I wasn't telling the truth and needed me to stop lying. This is after he collected $985.00 from me. I took the vehicle to another more capable mechanic and he had to replace every part that G.B. Trans. had installed for me just to get the vehicle to run the way it was when I took it to G.B. Trans. They had installed the wrong flywheel, A worn out clutch Plate, The Release Bearing was installed incorrectly, the wrong Clutch fork, and instead of bleeding the air from my hydraulic system (my original problem) they jammed a small 11/32 socket on the end of the clutch push rod to take up the space. The owner offered to put a shim behind the new flywheel that he had replaced to fix the shudder, I figured that if that was done that it would move the flywheel toward the trans to patch the problem of the shudder, but would also move the flywheel further from thestarter and create another new problem. more
