I arrived on time for my appointment, I was greeted and told to wait. I waited for 20 whole minutes. As I sat there the the front staff and another stylist stood and talked. Did not offer me anything, would sometimes just stare at me, etc. They were very rude. I was never offered an explanation of why on my very first appointment I was waiting 20 minutes. That would have been nice, followed up with an apology. Once I was finally seen, she was not that warm. She did not really listen to what I was wanting. She gave me the WORST hair cut I have ever received in this city. I have lived here a long time. She did not even bother to dry my hair properly. You know how usually when you leave the salon, your hair is beautiful and they have dried it in a way that you could never make it look? Well, she made me look like a scarecrow! Expo is located in the most awkward and difficult place to find you could possibly imagine and the parking is horrendous. You have to park where people are dropping off donations to GoodWill at their loading dock so you could imagine the level of safety your vehicle is in. Not only that the grade of service, skill level and decor makes Goodwill seem like a 5 star resort. There was so much clutter I could hardly breath, and the chair wasn't even cleaned form the haircut before me. As I sat there I started to itch from all the clippings left over from the last client. Looking around the space there was decor reminiscent of a thrift shop on clearance. Save yourselves the hassle, money and torture. Pros: so cheesy you can spread it on a cracker more

Expo Salon is the best salon experience I have ever had. I first started going to Expo over 4 years ago with a friend's recommendation. I love the up-beat and friendly attitude of the staff, attention to detail, clean-comfortable atmosphere, all-in-one service, and LOW COST! I have been to several salons but, have never received such detailed service. I get high light/low lights, cut and style that makes me look awesome.(I can honestly say this because every time I see my friends, family or coworkers they always compliment me and ask me where I got my hair done.) I also love to get my eyebrows waxed at Expo. They do a great job shaping the brow to my face. I love to get Solar nails there because the expert shaping makes people think they are my real nails!*Secret* They also have awesome mani/pedi massage chairs. I love to relax or chat with the staff. I took my mom to Expo for Mother's day and even trusted Vo, Lily, and Mickey to take care of me and my wedding party on the special day. I always recommend Expo to all my friends or any one on the street who asks me about my look! I can feel good about making the recommendation because the cost is so economical in this expensive day and time. The biggest test was convincing my hubby to try out Expo. He wasn't sure but, now he has been going for over 3 years and never looks back. He always looks so good when he comes back! They have an awesome central Austin location and are ALWAYS willing and able to work you into the schedule for the emergency appointments. It is definitely an all in one salon. I've been going regularly to Expo Salon for over 8 years now and wouldn't trust my hair or nails with anybody else! I always get a great cut and fantastic color for such a cheap price! Getting my hair color customized and highlighted to how they do it at Expo Salon would easily cost over $120 anywhere else but they are able to do it perfectly for under $90! Every time I get my hair or nails done people always notice and ask where I go, in fact I've got all of my immediate family, co-workers and friends going and they love it too! The attention to detail and the time they spend to meet your needs and requests are uncomprable. The friendly and courteousness of the dynamic staff also can't be beat. I have lived in Ausin for twenty years and have been to a variety of different places to get my haircut and styled. From the basic discount chop shops, normal barber shops, to the high end salons. I have found none better than Expo salon. II have been going there for over 3 years now. Vo does a great job on my cuts eventhough I ask her to do something different each time. Most of the time I just explain to her what I want or I bring in a picture from a magazine. And after 20 minutes in the chair voila! I have the do I was looking for. Or a least pretty close, because I am not a model, but when I leave I always feel sharp because of my new cut. And my wife likes the cuts as well. She referred me to Vo after I lost my previous barber and had been to several places in the area that were not what I wanted. Has anyone noticed that the negative comments all have common recurring themes? They are written in the same style and actually use some of the exact verbiage repeatedly! They are obviously written by the same person, or the competition, or both! I have been going to Expo Salon for over a year now. I get my hair and nails done there routinely and love the service. I go every week for a manicure with Lilly. Not only does she do a great job, she is friendly, conversational and has never been late for our appointment - not once! Once a month I also get a spa pedicure done by Lilly. Once again, she is fantastic. My nails look great and the pedicure lasts an entire month! I've been to a lot of places that the color doesn't even stay on beyond a few days. I'm picky and it took me a long time to find this level of excellent service. Vo does my hair once a month. I alternate between color touch-ups and full color with highlights. She actually does a base color, a lowlight and a highlight for me and it's the best job I've ever had done. My hair is naturally curly and thick. That is a blessing, I know, but it has taken me a lifetime to find someone that can cut it and style it to its best potential. I've never received so many compliments! Yes, it's a small place but it's a loving, quaint place and it's always very clean. There may be 2 people getting their hair done and a few more getting their nails done but any odor that comes from that is not nearly as bad as over half the salons I've been in over the years. It's a full service salon - what do you expect?!? I also appreciate the tranquil music, the two flat screen TVs that are kept on mute but scripted - very relaxing. With all of that and the pampering, I practically go to sleep in the massage chairs! LOL. So, Vo/Lilly/Mickey/Karen, ignore the fake negative comments and keep on giving your excellent customer service with your warm, friendly style. You guys are the best. Thank you, Debra Parsons. I've been going to Expo Salon for over 10 years now and if that doesn't tell you what you need to know then stop in and see for yourself. \r The girl who had been cutting my hair left town, so that left me looking for a new haircutter (stylist, sorry VO, didn't mean to insult you there). Luckily, that turn of events led me to Expo Salon, where I met VO and Mickey (Lilly would come later). I immediately liked both of them. It was my first haircut there, but VO and Mickey both made me feel like a long time customer. Both were (and still are) very outgoing and easy to joke with, making the experience all the more enjoyable. It's a family run operation, and after a few visit, I felt like part of the family too. \r As with anyone, we all would like a new look or style from time to time, and everytime I've wanted one, VO knew exactly what to do. She has a good sense for my style and what ""works"" for certain people. I can honestly say, I've never been disappointed with a hair cut from her. I guess I can say I've never looked better (grin). \r Now that I am a long time customer, I've come to know these people as friends (as you will too, if you give them a try) and actually look forward to seeing them every 2-3 weeks for my trim. They have the perfect balance between friendly service and professional salon. I enjoy going to Expo Salon as I would enjoy going to my favorite hang out (they just need to serve beer!). It's nice to walk in a place where everyone knows your name (c'mon, I had to make a reference to cheers!) but that's what it's like. The kick back, friendly atmosphere of Expo Salon made this relationship happen almost over night, and that's what keeps me coming back, well, that and VO's beautiful smile (there, I made up for the haircutter remark, grin). Growing up on a ranch in eastern Texas, I never thought I would want to go to a salon. I am recently divorced and wanted pamper myself. When I arrived, everyone was so ""professional and friendly"", but they joked around and made me laugh too. Expo Salon is a one stop shop for all your grooming needs! My husband and I have been going to Expo Salon for the last 13 years and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a relaxed, casual atmosphere with the friendliest folks in town! Micki, Vo, Lily and Karen are dedicated to customer satisfaction and have the skills to deliver. Karen and Vo are haircare experts, Micki does hair, too, in addition to Solar and Acrylic nails, while Lily handles the manicures and pedicures. Each and every member of the Salon Expo staff are truly outstanding! Karen recently gave me highlights. My Mother was sceptical until she saw the results. She was as thrilled as I was and said it was the exact color my hair was when I was a little girl! I go to Expon Salon every two weeks for fills on my nails and a pedicure. The pedicure chairs and Lily's strong tiny fingers will work out and cure all ills! Now, you don't have to be wealthy to afford good grooming, because, Expo Salon offers such good value for a stellar product. Micki uses top quality OPI nail products and provide each client with their own personal grooming kit to be used at each session. Have been going there for years and have always been greeted by smiling face. Vo, Mikey and Staff are always upbeat. Haircuts have all been as requested. Location is great for me, close to home. I can get the appointment times that I want. If I need to change an appointment it's so easy. I stay very busy with my work and I like Vo calling me to remind me of an appointment. Okay, Okay....the first 13 reviews on this site have got to be written by the same person as they said the same thing over and over. Must be a jealous competitor or someone who didn't care enough to go back and have Expo make it right. All untruths!!!! \r \r Now the real thing, Baby! Mickey, Vo, Lilly and Karen give all the best of customer service and are professionally trained hairdressers and nail personnel. I used to go to fly-by-nights nail salons in strip malls and ALWAYS ended up with nails coming off or getting an infection. In my 8 years, Mickey has had to replace ""maybe"" 2 nails that I broke off. If I do not like my hair, Vo will gladly redo it without charge and has brought my hair back to life from being very unhealthy. Basically, if you are not satisfied, they will make sure you are satisfied and WITHOUT CHARGE! Lilly is awesome with pedicures and Karen is a charming person to be around. They are all like family to me as well and truly care about what is going on in your personal life. If they speak Vietnamese, so what??? It's usually to each other about their own personal lives. I have never felt insulted, intimidated or thought they could not understand what I wanted. They are excellent in the English language, AND in the salon, it is the FIRST language they speak. Oh by the way, the so-called ""random"" pictures in the atrium are of clients and family because they are proud of their clientele. Their prices are so economical that you can afford to be beautiful and not feel like you've just thrown away hundreds of dollars like some of the other money-raking salons. Let's see, where can I begin? I have been a customer there for about 4 years now and I absolutely love it! The salon and the services offered there are excellent and the staff really know how to make a client feel welcomed and I will never go anywhere else. The staff consisting of: Mickey who does nail services does an awesone job and is just a down to earth guy, Vo and Karen who do an excellent job providing hair services, and Lily who does an excellent job at providing nail services and waxes. The prices are very affordable and the services are done professionally. They always make customers feel welcomed and always cater to their needs. I am not typically the ""get pampered"" kind of girl. But I LOVE going here!!! I have been going here since I moved to Austin 5 years ago and they treat me and my friends like family. I always get my nails done by Mickey (the most lovable guy ever), waxes and hair done by Vo (I will NEVER let any else touch my hair but her! She is a perfectionist), and Lilly does my pedicures (they always look beautiful), and Karen is just a sweetheart! I have moved quite a ways away from the salon and refuse to go anywhere but there. Now all of my friends go there and my husband! Their prices are affordable and they are always happy to see you and remember who you are! I went there for my wedding and always take friends there for their birthdays. They treat you like royalty! In fact, my last visit, I was treated with wine that they happened to have while I got my pedi! Great place!\r \r P.S. Yes, they speak in their native language to each other, but what nail salon do you go to that they don't!! LOL! I found this place 8 years ago and have been a loyal customer ever since. They do incredible work and their prices are so much better than the other places I have been. I get waxing, manicures, and pedicures there and I have always been thrilled with the results. They are fantastic about getting you in for an appointment whenever you need one and they are always professional. They always make me feel special and like I am part of the family. i normally dont get mani/pedis done since my mom also does nails, but since being away for school i had to find a place that would pamper me like my mom would at home and expo salon does that. they have a wonderful staff who are nice and will pamper you to the fullest. i recommend getting the deluxe mani/pedi package which includes the chair massage (the best part!), parafin wax, sugar scrub, and a hot rock massage on your legs. they really know how to take care of you here and you always leave satisfied. my friends and i always go here and we usually run into someone we know because weve recommended this place to EVERYONE. ive also gotten my hair highlighted their a couple of times and they always have done a great job. next time you go in, ask for mickey and say hollerrrr Pros: service, friendliness, quality and price more

I tried Expo salon for the first time after finding it here on citysearch. I have to say that I was blown away by their customer service and pampering treatments. I went in and got a mani/pedi. Not only did the special include parafin wax AND scrub but I got french manicure on both and I was very happy with how they turned out and I have not had any problem with chipping. I've paid twice as much before and never been this happy with service. The staff was also ver y friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this salon. when i first arrived at expo salon i was quickly greeted and taken care of. they asked me what i wanted done and i got exactly that and more. the pedicure was great! they make you feel so comfortable and relaxed that i almost fell asleep. the prices are very reasonable and i highly recomend the salon. everyone was happy and very agreeable and it had a great atmosphere.
