awesome mexican food 9/26/2011

I am moved here recently and was having a hard time finding quality real Mexican food . Being from San Diego i have eaten at allot of different Mexican restaurants. El Tejado is good authentic mexican food made by people that care about you and the food they serve you. I would highly recommend giving El Tejado a try.. more

Not Horrible 9/16/2011

So, went to El Tejado for the second time last night. Wasn't too impressed the first time, but I thought I'd give it a second try.\r Not a big fan of the salsa, kind of has the consistency and look of plain ketchup with a LOT of cilantro and the chips weren't fresh and warm.\r The entire dinner wasn't too bad except the rice was extremely salty.\r Oh and the hostess wasn't the friendliest person either, kind of rude.\r Probably won't go back. more

el tejado 5/14/2011

our first visit to el tejado, and we wont be back! better chili rellenos have been found in fast food joints, the service was lacking, our food was brought out wrong. the waitress kept asking how our food was as she ran by our table, you could compare the amount of gravy on our plates to a mississippi flood. there was a quanity of food to be eaten, if you could stand the lack of QUALITY, so it was a bad experience which we wont repeat. When asked how things were as we were leaving, our answer of ""we didnt care for your food"" was met with a sheepish smile. Our $30 meal for two could have been spent somewhere much more palatable. Buyer Beware! more

El Tejado 5/24/2009

You have to keep in mind that you pay for what you get...but considering the size of the portions, your getting your money's worth. I've had many a Chili Rellano and I think El Tejado has the best around...their Mexican burger isn't shabby either. The service is aways good and they are very considerate of your needs. They are a family restaurant and very preceptive to the needs of children. No they are not fancy, but they try hard and I've never had a bad experience there. Pros: Price Cons: Can't think of one more

Very sad & dissapointed 5/18/2009

I've been eating here for over 8 years and I've finally had it! I've put up with terrible service because of the good food. BUT I sent back a chili relleno today that was as tuff as rubber & asked for it to be taken off the bill since I didn't have time to wait for a new one. You would think I asked for the moon! It took longer to have it taken off the bill than to have a new one! When I paid the hostess she asked ""how was it""? I told her! She looked away & didn't care... this is what puts businesses out of business! I did not tip either because she never came back after serving us and took my plate to show someone the relleno. I'll never be back! Pros: Good beans Cons: Chili rellenos & bad service! more

Pretty good Mexican for the price 7/6/2008

We ordered the chimichangas and the pork fajitas and they were pretty darn good for $10 and under. The salsa was very good too. The guac was just so-so. We will definitely return. The service was fast and friendly. Pros: There's a lady who comes by to sell your sweetheart a rose. more

I'm so confused...but I can't stop!!!! 1/3/2008

Every time I have had a margarita here, it ends up tasting like feet. Bad feet. I also got shrimp fajitas once, and the shrimp were teeny tiny, pricey and not very good. Not good at all. I?ve know lots and lots of people who have been very very sick after eating here. Like coming out of both ends sick. Including me. But! It still doesn?t stop me!!! I stick with water, order the chicken and stray away from the specials (aka ?this food has been around so long we better get rid of it?). I wouldn?t say it?s the worst or best, but I?ve had good times there. If you have a sense of humor about bad decor and you are tolerant of inconsistent service, your experiences will be great! Pros: Good food...if you order the right thing Cons: Bad food...if you order the wrong thing more

THE Best Mexican Food in Denver 10/22/2007

This restaurant features Mexican food, and by that I mean REAL Mexican food. The portions are ample, the produce is fresh and the prices are more than reasonable. The building itself is cozy and the booths offer a real privacy. The Mariachis are SO much fun and the bartenders know how to make a margarita. If it weren't for the completely inattentive waitresses, I would have no qualms giving this place five stars. Pros: Great food! Great bar! Cons: REALLY bad service. more

More Effective Than Ipecac 7/5/2007

My boyfriend is very picky about Mexican food and we've yet to find a restaurant that's totally authentic. So, after some time reading reviews and researching online, we decided to try El Tejado. BIG mistake.\r While the service was friendly but very slow, the food was absolutely terrible. He immediately vetoed future visits. Less than half-way through my entree, I got heartburn. The prices were a lot higher than expected. We paid, tipped well, and got in the car to leave. We made it less than five blocks before I asked my boyfriend to pull over and promptly proceeded to expel everything I ate in projectile manner in an alley. I felt like I was Linda Blair, except my head didn't spin around. I've never responded so explosively to something like that - not even too much liquor, which, by the way, I didn't have. I STRONGLY recommend staying AWAY from this place - unless you enjoy throwing up in alleys. Pros: Helpful if bulemic Cons: Not good for people who like digesting more

Genuine and true Mexican Food. Doesn't get anymore authentic than this! 6/22/2006

El Tejado is the most authentic actual sit down restuarant in the Denver Metro area that isn't one of those really small places where you actually have to speak spanish to order. El Tejado will give you a huge variey on the menu and dishes that are native to Mexico. Sunday's are terribly busy as there is usually a strolling mariachi band. There are usually lots and lots of Mexican National families which add to the ambiance. The food is wonderful. more

Great fun 11/13/2005

We had heard good things but were impressed anyhow. Prompt service, good food friendly staff and to top it off.a 9 person Mariachi band Sunday afternoons. I will definitely be back. more

Ask for the tacos de lengua!! 8/13/2004

*This review was for a takeout order, but the waitstaff seemed amicable and able.* I live in south Denver, which has only a fraction of all the wonderful Mexican restaurants that can be found in north Denver, but El Tejado satisfied my craving for some good grub. I had a hankering for tacos de lengua (tongue) and the hostess was kind enough to get them made for me despite tongue not being on the menu. I cook professionally and I'm sure that the cooks have a good store of offal ready for their own consumption and for their valued Mexican customers. The tongue was absolutely wonderful and cost a few dollars less than Taco de Mexico on Santa Fe. The green chile was adequate, as were the refritos. My fiancee had the cheese enchiladas and was pleased as well. The hostess recommended the bistec for my next visit. more

All about Food & Not Atmosphere 12/5/2002

The restaurant has great food. However, the atmostphere is not what many consider great. It is not fancy and not quiet. Many restaurants consider themselves Mexican but don't cook real mexican food. El Tejado does! I suggest you go when they have a Mariachi Band! more

mucho goodo 11/14/2002

this is one of the best restaurants around. we eat there (lakewood) several times a month..the best salsa ever....the service is always good, the waitresses are excellent, and it helps to speak spanish..that is always appreciated. Pros: inexpensive, flavorful food, sizable servings Cons: too crowded, parking area-small, limited seating more

The Best Ever 11/5/2002

My family and I discovered El Tejado by word of mouth more than 5 years ago. It is the best Mexican food I have ever had. And I eat a lot of Mexican food. If I could eat at El Tejado every day I would. Mis favoritos include tacos de carne adovada, chiles rellenos, and pollo azado. They make a mean Cuervo margarita and awesome sopapillas and the prices are insanely resonable. Pros: Inexpensive, Service Cons: Parking more
