Color me surpised to see even one mixed review of EATS Market Cafe! This place is a lovely little gem tucked very surprisingly into Westwood Village Shopping Center in West Seatt...

I wouldn't eat breakfast there again, not because that the food was bad but because the price was way too high for what you get. I did the scrambled eggs with, sausage, cheese,...

Bad service, bad attitude 8/23/2008

Things happen. It's how a business responds when something inevitably goes wrong that separates the good businesses from the bad. And it's how this restaurant responded--or, more accurately, didn't --that explains why I won't ever eat there again. more

I don't get the hype 10/16/2007

I wouldn't eat breakfast there again, not because that the food was bad but because the price was way too high for what you get. I did the scrambled eggs with, sausage, cheese, and avacado and the thing ended up being over $12 due the the ala carte style menu. I didn't even get everything I would have wanted in my eggs but couldn't justify spending $16 for breakfast. Pros: convienient for me Cons: price more

One of the best in the West (of Seattle) 8/7/2007

Color me surpised to see even one mixed review of EATS Market Cafe! This place is a lovely little gem tucked very surprisingly into Westwood Village Shopping Center in West Seattle. That alone gives them points for bravery in my book. I've been eating here since they opened and the owners, Evan and Toby, have never been less than warm and friendly to me no matter how busy the place is.. and so have the people they've hired. The matzoh in the chicken (with REAL chicken stock) soup wants to fly right out of the bowl it's so light.. and Bubba's Bolognese is to die for. Ditto those gooey waist-bustin' Reubens, which are hands down the best I've ever eaten (including NYC's!). Pros: Well prepared and creative-yet-comforting food Cons: Probably the location, if anything, but it's worth the drive to West Seattle more

What a rueben!!! 12/6/2006

I have eaten a lot of ruebens from Seattle to New York City, and this is definitely one of the best I have ever had. I just recently moved to West Seattle and I was looking for a good place for lunch. My neighbor suggested EATS. The lentil soup I had was great, and my wife really like her chicken soup with the matzoh-balls, but my rueben took the cake. My wife had the grilled cheese, and she raved, too. Then we finished with a peanut brittle chocolate brownie, and I felt like I was in heaven. Thank goodness there are great places on this side of the water to eat, I'm gettin lost with all of these bridges! more

Shamelessly Bad Pastrami 11/7/2006

THe restaurant was practically empty for lunch the day I went in yet had to seat myself...noone showed up to greet & seat me! THen I ordered the pastrami sandwich....which seemed to take forever to arrive considering there was only one other diner in the place. The sandwich was NOT worth the wait, at all. The bread was dry, the ""house-made"" pastrami clearly should be 'outsourced' as it was dry and tasteless....very disappointing and expensive considering the quality...will not go back. more

best reuben in town 11/1/2006

When I'm sick I crave their Bubbe's Matzo Ball soup. Their reuben is fabulous. My only complaint is that the service can be uneven, and the location makes the atmosphere less than stellar. There's almost always a wait for a table- maybe they'll move to a larger/better space! Cons: feels like a cafeteria more

Deserves To Be First Again 4/24/2006

My husband and I have had the pleasure of sampling each of the seasonal menus at EATS since it opened about a year and a half ago and have never been disappointed. The food is first rate, the service is friendly and the prices are fair. During the year the owners have demonstrated a willingness to listen to their customers and critics. An example is the extraordinary all day brunch with service that they instituted throughout the week in mid-March replacing the self-service lunch only daytime format. Dinners remain a highlight that draw us back on a regular basis. The food is fresh, the preparations are interesting and attractive, the wine list is well designed and reasonable and the desserts are to die for. We never get tired of EATS. It is a treat anytime of day. Seattles Best New Restaurant of 2005 continues to live up to its reputation. Pros: food, deserts, parking more

Won't Come Back for Dinner 3/15/2006

Been here five times for lunch, no problems. In fact, recommend their lunch menus. Had dinner with my husband last Mar 14 and we're so disappointed. We arrived at 730pm, three tables occupied. The appetizer scallops with asparagus and rissotto was chewy. I was expecting at least a light sauce over to give some flavor. The skirt steak looked like was cooked earlier and reheated, then served lukewarm, well done, dry. As for the shell pasta with bolognese, pasta was cooked ahead, served lukewarm, bolognese sauce was lukewarm. If pasta is served fresh cooked, it will absorb the sauce and give it the flavor and praise they're raving about. The skirt steak was replaced with fresh cooked flavorless skirt steak. My husband and I just ate the pasta because we're hungry and could no longer wait. The owner apologized, comp glass of wine and beer. Won't go back for dinner. Pros: Good Lunch, Good parking Cons: Dinner not recommende more

HOSPITALITY SORELY LACKING FOOD NOT WORTH IT 2/16/2006

I've been in four or five times and each time it gets worse. My husband, a former chef, refuses to return because the food is not interesting enough or executed well enough to justify the price. I am a former server and will not return because the service is poor. We have walked into this tiny space and each time are not greeted in a timely manner. Servers will walk by and not say a word or make eye contact. This happens even when the restaurant is not busy. The restaurant also seems to close early even though the resaurant closes at 9:00. Once we tried to have dinner at 8:45 and were told by the owner that they were closed. Once we stopped in at 8:30 and were made to feel as if we were coming in at the last minute. That was our last and final visit. Pros: dessert Cons: service more

It doesn't get better than this for the price 5/28/2005

We've dined a few times at this little West Seattle eatery and everything has been outstanding. The service is always with a smile, and the ambience is very nice and relaxed, but it's the food that will keep us coming back. From the creative and unbelieveably fresh salads to the rich flavored (but not overwhelming) entrees to the desserts, which may be the best part of all (and a pretty decent little wine, too). I don't think I would necessarily take my wife there for our anniversary, but if you are looking for wonderful food at extremely reasonable prices in a very pleasant, casual atmosphere there is no other decision out this way! Pros: food quality, inexpensive, great parking Cons: privacy more

Diamond in the Rough! 5/26/2005

cozy little cafe 5/23/2005

Since eats market cafe opened about six months ago my husband and I have enjoyed many great meals. It is in my opinion the best option for those seeking a scrumptious meal. The quality of food coming from their kitchen is not something you would expect from a little cafe in West Seattle. Pros: very hospitable Cons: little privacy more

A gem in need of a little polishing! 5/18/2005

Went for dinner with friends on a Saturday. No reservations and seated within minutes. The food here is fabulous! Especially the desserts! The waitstaff needs to be more sophisticated. Biggest complaint: the layout. The tables across from the kitchen/bus station need more privacy! Needs a screen or a 4'0 partition wall. The entryway needs a screen or an angled wall to give the tables on the right as you walk in some privacy. Chairs could be put on the other side of the screen/wall for folks to sit while waiting for table. The entryway needs a hostess stand....doesn't have to be big. I think if you re-worked the layout you could even get a couple more tables in. Dear Owners: You really have something special going here! But please, take a cue from Ovio Bistro's old space.....those folks really did a great job with the layout in that little spot. Pros: Food, Value, Parking Cons: Ambiance, Room Layout, Service more

Though located in West Seattle's busy Westwood Village shopping center, this cozy cafe isn't a chain eatery by any means--it's a spot for families to refuel on upscale comfort...
