I've been to the Daily Cafe twice for dinner and I've been blown away by the food and the surprising combinations of the food. The last time a friend and I went on a Friday night ...

The Lamb Sandwich 3/22/2003

I have tried the Daily Cafe for brunch and dinner. Brunch was excellent, dinner was terrible. The dinner entrees sounded delicious on the menu, but did not deliver. Of the three dinner items I sampled, I would not order any of them again. more

Excellent 2/22/2003

A tremendous eating experience! The menu was varied and the food was cooked to perfection and flavorful. The restaurant itself is clean and airy but perhaps a little bit 'minimalist' and the building nestles amongst some warehouse units so it's not a spot for a romantic dinner for two. However, but the food is outstanding, the service pleasant and attentive and it's excellent value for money. Pros: Great food, Clean, Good value more

If only the service... 2/22/2003

The food was really amazing. Very creative, well presented and very very nicely priced. The tomato leek soup was delightful, thejambalaya chicken/andoullie and shrimp combo was very good and the souffle was fantastic. Nice simple choice of wines and beers (the Arrogant Bastard from San Diego a must try. If only the service were better. We waited way to long for our first course and then again for each course thereafter. The only downer on the food was the chocolate creme de pot, which was served a bit too cold. The design of the place was simple, clean and modern. Even the noise from the huge table across the room wasn't annoying. Pros: Simple Quality Menu, Mostly fantastic food, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Slow Service more

another tasty lunch place 11/13/2002

Food was fresh and flavorful, though I wonder about another review's impression that it's a great deal, price-wise. I paid about $10 for soup and half a sandwich, plus a small side of greens. Not bad if you're in the neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way. Pros: fresh ingredients, laid-back atmosphere Cons: a little pricey more

Champagne tastes on a beer budget 10/3/2002

Delicious, inspired, imaginitive dishes! Sunday Brunch is my favorite. I love going w/ 3 other people, each of us ordering a different appetizer and entree, then passing our plates around the table so we can each try everything. So far, everything I've tasted has been top-notch! I especially love the chorizo & huevos rancheros, the ham w/ coffee gravy, any of their fruit blintzes, and the yummy little itty bitty scones, biscuits and muffins. Oh, and they make a killer cup of chai latte. You'll be surprised that food this good is so affordable in the Pearl at the Daily Cafe. But don't tell everybody--I want to keep this little gem to myself and my plate-rotating dining companions! Pros: imaginitive food, very affordable, good parking Cons: long waits sunday a.m more

Miracle in the Pearl 6/2/2002

Hands down best value in Portland. Just today, I had a country risotto with morels and asparugus for under $7. Tell me where else you can get a risotto of any quality for lunch in Portland for that price? Michelle pulls the best damn Americano in town. A little cavernous in the evening and a little drafty in the winter. And it can get a little crowded around lunchtime. Small complaints given the precision of the chef and the consistency of the staff. more
