Fantastic service and great drinks! 9/9/2006

We went on a Saturday night, and it wasn't too busy. Our server, Shelly, was excellent. Nice, quiet atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Here are some eats we had that are worth trying: the guacamole, tacos a la carte, and mole negro. Drinks were tasty, the best being the strawberry infused tequila....yummy! The manager, Juan, keeps things running smoothly. He was very professional. Overall we had a great experience and we will be coming back! more

The service, food, and the personal attention have made us regualrs at this great place. Billy and Steven go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, and they take a personal interest in your experience--which is very hard to find these days. If you're looking for authetic and refined mexican dining, this is THE place. The ceviche and the fish tacos are great starters. ask them about their mole' sauce, and definitely try the margherittas! I have not only been to DF multiple times for dinner, but also scheduled our annual party there- Unreal ! Great space, awesome drinks, every item on the menu I have had.... delicious ! Steven and Billy knocked this one out of the park! more

2nd time a charm 7/15/2006

on our first visit, the food was so undersalted as to be completely bland, plus we had crazy slow service in a empty restaurant. tried again this week (6 months later) and the food was fantastic. we ordered pretty much the same as last time and everything was seasoned perfectly, great tacos. the services is still slow and even with reservations had to wait awhile to be seated, the music could be better suited for the space, and I wish the satff wouldn't run/powerwalk through the restaurant. of course great drinks and fantastic interior design with a great view. First off...DF makes the best margaritas. All of their cocktails are made from fresh fruit, not oversweetened mixes that are typical in most places. The food is superlative. The smoked fish tacos are hands down the best thing on the menu, but I also highly recommend the tender and delicious goat meat tacos if you're feeling adventurous. Don't forget to try to chips and guac...made fresh daily, and the ceviche is also a great appetizer, with your choice of crab, shrimp, octopus, or a combination. It's AMAZING! 4/2/2006

D.F. is now even better than Taqueria Nueve. I absolutely love the moles and their coctels with fresh seafood. I went in last weekend and was surprised to see how busy the restaurant has become. It used to be my little secret spot- but everyone is starting to figure out that this new hip place in the north pearl is THE BEST place to get authentic mexican food in all of Portland. A couple things I learned from my wonderful waitress: they stopped serving brunch now, and will be open on Sunday nights instead. And on Tuesdays they have HALF OFF bottles of wine! Serrano infused tequila is out of this world!!! 1/18/2006

The food at DF is outstanding. Been there 3 or 4 times & have not been disappointed. If you want to try a cocktail w/ an extra kick try the Serrano chile infused tequila shaken up with pineapple juice, poured over ice w/ a salty rim! To die for!!! Yummy Ceviche 12/2/2005

the ceviche sampler we had was excellent as well as the other small plates we tried. service was ok overall, but a little slow and spotty at times. really nice ambience, not too crowded or loud in an airy open loft space, but what is up with the paper napkins?? cocktails at $7 a piece was not a good value as they were small and watered down. For the love of God, dF is good. Have been there 4 times now and just tried the new fall menu. Got take out because I have 5 month baby and am not allowed to leave my condo. It was delightful. Best take out I ever had - flat out! more

Fabulous! 9/11/2005

We went last Friday for the first time and loved it so much, we went again on Sunday night! The food is FANTASTIC! We had the prawn appetizer (get the side of rice to soak up the great sauce), the mole, the goat and the beef with spicy peanut sauce. Everything was so good. The service is top notch; attentive, helpful and very friendly. One of my new favorites. Pros: Great food more

Steak had to be thawed? 8/21/2005

Time from ordering to being served unbelievably too long The restaurant was not full at all. after 30 minutes, I asked when food would be ready; not much response. 7 to 10 minutes later, I said I was very hungry. only explanation was the order of steak taking long time. apology only at end of meal. Excellent cut of steak. Cerviche, sauces and vegetables very tasty. rice pilaf had no flavor. We found this restaurant in Willamette Weed Dish column. more

Obviously this restaurant has great plans for the future. The steak, chicken and especially the fish tacos were awesome. The high tech design of the place needs a little messing up...a flower or two would help a lot. And please consider the music...the techno music just does not make it...how about some great mexican accoustic Iguitar...To a hayseed like me the menu was a little hard to understand...I don't speak spanish or cusine. Can eat it though and the food was good...When they hit their stride they will be great. Pros: food, service Cons: music, guacamole, stark design more

DF is the place for unique mexican cuisine and great service. All of our dishes were spectacular and flavorful, especially the trio of ceviche, fried whole fish, curried goat with sweet potato, and mole of the day. There is a wide selection of entrees for every appetite. The servers made extra effort to seat us at a nice outdoor table and checked in with us frequently. Fancy Mexican cuisine 7/7/2005

Was a little more upscale than I expected, but the food was good. Not sure it was worth the price, but a nice place to try and impress a date. FYI my wife LOVES Mexican food and she had a hard time finding something she recognized on the menu. Just be warned you won't get chips/salsa and burritos here. All fancy like! I enjoyed the steak Mexicana. more
