Bizarro World 10/21/2011

There should be a no stars option. My boyfriend and I came here to meet some friends after dinner, a little more dressed up than usual for this place. We walked in and immediately felt profiled. A red Headed female bartender approached us and asked what we wanted to drink. Having taken a minute to pick between the two taps we could see, a decision was made. I told this bartender that I was surprised there weren't more taps (I haven't been here since I started to drink beer other than pabst). With a very irritated tone she informed me there were around the side and naturally I asked what (it seems that I was supposed to do my own leg work). This was an obvious inconvenience. She named 1 other thing and already we were quick to say,"" yeah we'll change our oder to that."" She got sassy and gave us a sharp ""sure, just tell me what you want already."" I apologized and asked her if that would be a problem. ( I work as a bartender too and have an understanding for what kinds of crap you get dealt. This place was not very busy and too, was adequately staffed.)Maybe if I had taken off my jacket and exposed my tattoos I wouldn't have been misinterpreted. Her response was, "" Are you being a C*NT right now?"" absolutely baffled I responded, ""Actually, no...I'm not"" She continued on telling me that if I wanted to be a C*NT then I could leave. I said at this point that I wasn't comfortable staying and explained that I was now going around the corner to grab my friends. Yelling and screaming that she was calling the cops, she asked the security guard to follow me and escort me out. I didn't fight any of this because I couldn't believe what was happening. Right out of left field. Like a dream or a funny house. I grabbed my friends headed for the door. As I was walking out, some friend of hers starts yelling to me that I was told to leave and then ran after me and spit on the arm of my jacket. I walked out shaking my head and laughing because it was truly the worst and most insane service (or lack of) I have ever had.I still can't believe it. In conclusion this is a poorly ran establishment, where the staff couldn't care less about servicing customers. I'm sorry this women took me the wrong way, it's really too bad. It's sad that her insecurities would drive her to blow such a petty situation....... way out of proportion. more

Gross, Shady and Health Hazard 4/17/2011

Horrible service and if we didn't learn from the first time I went, I found hair in my food - AGAIN. This is probably the most disgusting, dirty restaurant in Portland. Not sure how they passed their health inspection. more

HORRIBLE 9/9/2009

What a DUMP! The karaoke was AWEFUL, I knew better than to eat the food (thanks to these reviews), drinks were pulled early, the KJ sucked, the outside of the restaurant smelled like nasty old bum socks. I thought I was going to up-chuck (they wont let me use any other word) before I even stepped inside. Fortunately I parked WAYYY down on Burnside and walked up, so I didn't have to deal with parking. Not that it seemed like it would be a problem cause the place was dead. It is like a remodeled Wendy's. I wouldn't go again even if I had a DD and they were paying for all of my drinks. NOTHING could get me back in there. I read these reviews before I went, took them with a grain of salt, and dove right in. AND WHAT A DIVE IT WAS!!! Stay away, walk 4-6 blocks down, cross the street and go the The East Burn instead. Pros: Cheap PABST- $2.50 16oz (for a bar, that is cheap) Cons: EVERYTHING other than PABST more

HIDEOUS! Smells bad inside... 3/30/2009

I should have known not to eat here from the horrible smell the place has but did because I was with friends - got sick...beware! Cons: got sick here more

STAY AWAY!!!! 4/29/2008

DON'T COME HERE!!! The owners/staff could care less about their customers or the community. The tow away sign placement at Chopsticks is very deceiving. The brick wall in the parking lot has a series of spaces with signs in front of them and a series of spaces without signs in front of them. It appears as if only half the spaces are tow away spaces. I think this establishment should be ashamed of the way they are taking advantage of the law abiding citizens of Portland. The guy at the tow truck place even admitted to me that he thought it was misleading. He told me that there are angry people reclaiming their cars on a weekly basis. That seems like a major problem to me a horrible way to treat potential customers. I went as far as to file a complaint with the city and when the woman asked me where I had parked I replied, ""East Burnside"" and she said, ""Oh, Chopsticks"" before I even told her the name of the place!!! They are notorious for towing anyone and everyone. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! The greasy food and bad karaoke isn't worth the $235 dollars it will take to get your car back. more

Read the signs 4/8/2008

I think towing is evil. I do, however, have to defend Chopsticks when it comes to this matter. There are signs EVERYWHERE stating if you are not a customer and you park in that parking lot, you will be towed. There are spotters watching you leave your car and they cannot predict the future regarding your intentions on becoming a customer later in the evening. The towing company is contracted out (as is the case with many other businesses with large parking lots) because it helps keep the parking lot clear for Chopsticks many nightly customers instead of those who want to see a movie, or frequent the many other bars in that area. It's horrible to get towed, but you can hardly condemn a business who is policing their private parking lot for it's customers' benefit. Here's an inside scoop: If you walk into Chopsticks right after parking, you are considered a customer and then can go wherever the hell you want. Pros: Great karoake, great staff. Cons: Towing companies in general more

HEADED TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT 3/29/2008

This place had two different patrons cars towed on the same evening and yet was not willing to reimburse them for the entire amount it cost to get their cars. It is one thing to make a mistake and then make up for it by taking care of the cost, it is another thing to put the blame on the patrons for not letting the owner know they were there and make them pay for it! The patrons also had to pay for the beverages orderded at the bar without being able to enjoy them. Terrible management! Stay away unless you want to pay. We will see them in small claims court to recover the towing costs and the lawyer fees. Cons: Terrible management! more

Boycott this place! 3/28/2008

This was my favorite karaoke place in Portland . . . until the night I parked in the parking lot, then walked across the street to grab dinner, and when I returned an hour later (planning to stay there to drink and sing all night), I noticed after I had ordered a beer that my car had been towed. My friend's car was towed the same night. The manager generously offered to knock $50 off the $235 towing price, but was unwilling to help any more, despite the fact that he could see I was a paying Chopsticks customer. There are plenty of other karaoke spots in Portland, and from now on I will frequent one of them. more

Best service... ever! 11/21/2007

When my wife and cat died a few weeks ago I was so down and out. I went by myself to Chopsticks to sing some songs and what not. Well I stumbled in on a saturday night and saw how busy it was! Oh well. I need some interaction with people. The bartender, she wore a dress and had short blonde hair, was so nice! She didn't get mad when I asked her what kind of beer, or hard liquor they had. So helpful. Lovely lady. Ask her anything, no matter if it's busy. She loves it! Then I sat where the party was at, in the lounge. Then the most amazing, beautiful, big breasted ;) woman helped me. She serverd food, I got the General Shrimp. SO SO GOOD!!! So I sang some songs, the KJ was great. Food was great. Friendly staff. I love it a lot. Pros: Hot staff! Cons: Not open 24 hrs! more

PDX's ONLY 5 Star Karaoke Dive 9/13/2007

Don't know what the one guy was smoking with his negative review. Chopstix owner never treats anyone badly unless they are REALLY total losers with bad attitudes. Pros: A real slice of Portland, fantastic singers, unique atmosphere Cons: Hot spot - gets crowded after 10pm on weekdays or weekends more

fun place 8/16/2007

I didn't eat the food and I only drank some tequila and some beer. So no reviews there. A friend had taken me out and said we were going to Chopsticks. What? She said it is where the Vespa crowd hangs out. I didn't know there was a vespa crowd and when we pulled in I didn't see any vespas. However, the crowd was a mix of hipster and prior college and other things. It was a fun crowd to say the least. The bartender was okay, the cocktail waitress that I watched handled her job well. I am not too picky when it comes to service in a bar like this at this time of night as I work bars myself and know how it gets. The KJ was okay, there was a sign posted to put in only one song request at a time. We got our song in and sang before too long. Some girls danced on the table I was sitting in (I have no idea who they were). The sound was grewat. It wasn't so smoky that I noticed at all. I didn't know it was smoking until I read the restaurant's profile. Pros: sound, people, drinks, Cons: smoking... I can't take most of my friends there because they don't smoke more

Go the extra distance...to avoid this dive. 6/8/2006

Upon walking into Chopsticks II, I first heard what sounded like a wounded manatee attempting to sing a Madonna song. Just my luck, it was a ""scareoke"" night. Checked out the menu (very limited, and they don't offer every dish they've got posted), and ordered a couple of dishes, two appetizers, and a soup...to go. About this time, the manatee was replaced by it's mate, an overweight guy with a gawd-awful combover. Ironically, his voice didn't make me want to take a jackhammer to my eardrums. Pros: Parking wasn't a problem Cons: Food, Management, "Entertainment?" more

Good any day of the week! 9/13/2005

Chopsticks is as fun on Monday as it is on Saturday. Some places are definately weekend spots. This place is happening every day of the week. Saturdays definately pick up though. Check it out sometime like Halloween or New Years and you'll really see a crowd! Pros: Huge song list, Strong drinks Cons: Too small for the Num, bers it draws more

Hooray for Chopsticks 2/11/2003

Spaceboi, I concur...this place is a very comfy place to hang out. This is the only place I can walk into alone and still be entertained. The staff are super friendly, food is fast and cheap and served late... The only drawback I can think of is that it is soo busy later at night and on weekends. It's hard to find a place to sit! Must be because it is so flipping cool. Pros: Great staff, Cheap Food, Lots to do Cons: Really busy, but only because it, rocks so hard! more

Chopsticks Express II Rocks! 2/2/2003

Extremely comfortable restaurant/lounge with a great mix of people. The full bar and good sized menu make this the perfect place to eat and drink. Though there are only between 8 and 10 vegetarian dishes, they can probably customize anything to fit your dietary needs. The food is consistently good and is served till 2 AM daily. The staff is friendly and way more competent than many local restaurants and lounges in the Portland-metro area that I've been to. There are also 2 pool tables, a MegaTouch station, and video poker for those with additional funds to burn. Karaoke is also available, starting at 8 PM seven days a week! Some of the best karaoke vocalists in Portland frequent this spot. Check it out! Pros: Karaoke nightly, Great bartenders, Consistent food Cons: Needs more seating more
