Chopstick Restaurant

I went to Chopstick for lunch. (First time visting it in a couple of years) In the past it was one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Austin. Today the food was not good. The sesame chicken, which is usually my favorite was soggy and stale. I took a friend there bragging about how this was one of my favorite places to eat and how reasonable the prices were. He went to the men?s room before eating and stayed a very long time. Then he returned and seemed to have a hard time eating his food. I later visited the ladies room and was shocked at what I found. It smelled so bad that I wondered why the smell had not overtaken the entire restaurant. It was just awful. It smelled like very strong and old urine. It appeared not to have been cleaned in a very long time. I did not use it, just washed my hands but I wished I had not entered it because it made me sick to my stomach. My friend and I did not discuss the restrooms but I knew why he could not eat and I was very sorry that I suggested that recommended it. As I walked in, I was greeted by the young lady in the front and was directed where to go for the buffet. The line for the buffet was also long, so I figured the food must be good. I thought, ""nicely greeted, long line- this lunch should be good."" Little did I know, the food was just OKAY and the service ended up not being what I had thought. The sesame and general joes were both soggy- not fresh and crispy like I remembered years ago. I asked if anymore would come out and the lady that stands at the buffet area said, ""soon"" but by the time it came out, we had to leave. I also overheard the buffet-lady speaking rudely to another customer, which I felt was inappropriate. Maybe there was a language barrier, I don't know. DELIEVERY WAS LONG ONE HOUR WAIT, WE BOUGHT SESAME CHICKEN, DRY, HARD. THE KUNG PAO CHICKEN&SHRIMP, WELL LETS SAY WE ORDERED 2 PLATES AND ONLY ONE PLATE HAD ONE SHRIMP ON IT. THE EGGROLLS WERE DRY AND HARD ON THE ENDS. ALL THE FOOD WAS COLD SOUP WAS ROOM TEMP. Cons: SMALL PORTIONS more

So, my boyfriend and I have been ordering Chinese from the same place for a year or so now. We've never been satisfied, but we keep ordering it bc it is quick delivery. Well, last night I was searching delivery Chinese in Hyde Park and found one review on Chopsticks. I ended up ordering Orange Chicken, chicken spring rolls, and chicken veggie terriaki w/ spicy sauce. I was told that it would take 45-60 min and it was here in thirty, piping hot... did i mention that all of that food for only 19 something? Anyway, don't get the orange chicken unless you like dark meat. But everything else was awesome. The chicken spring rolls and their spicy peanut sauce was wonderful. My favorite tho was the spicy chicken terriaki w/ veggies. Get that, don't think twice. Mushrooms, onions, carrots, cabbage I think and chicken, lots and lots of chicken and a sweet and spicy sauce. Austin Texas might not be the place you think of when it comes to Chinese food; and my neighborhood is somewhat limited when it comes to food delivery of any kind but Chopsticks has been one of the best restaurants I've ever had deliver food to me - much better than most any other Chinese take-out or delivery I've had not only in Austin but even when compared to my home city of San Francisco. The food I've had from Chopsticks competes with my favorite restaurants from home and I've come to crave their Curry Chicken, also their Shrimp Spring Roll (they also have Chicken and Beef) are a perfect alternative to the greasy egg roll I get from the ""other"" delivery place.
