I have been dealing with the owner at Chicago Kite for 12 years or so, starting at his original location in Chicago. Since moving to Oak Park, the shop has become even better. My interest is in the high tech stunt kites, but the shop has an endless variety of toys for kids and adults; beginner level kites, flags, banners, Radio Control models etc. etc. plus a full range of Yo-Yos (this has become a major sport ). Prices cover the full range from quick gift toys to really profesional grade Kites. Kites range from the simple and inexpensive to the Pro grade which are well worth their significant cost, if you select the right kite for your needs. This is where some explanation and advice is invaluable, and he is an expert at reading the customer's interest and skill level and matching them to the right kite. I needed to buy a kite from this store for a birthday present and I called the store to find out their business hours. I was told that they operated from 10am to 6pm on the weekdays. So on Tuesday I went there at 11.45am and the store was closed with a sign saying that he would be back in 15 minutes. 1 hour later I was still waiting and decided to give up. I called again to let him know this and he rudely stated that he would be there from 10am to 6pm the next day. I decided to go out of my way on Wednesday morning at 10am before my daughter doctors appointment to get the kite. At 10.30am, I and other people were still waiting outside (in the stinking heat) for the store to open. i had to give up to make it to my daughters appointment on time. I was really upset because not only didnt he keep his opening hours that he had stated, but I had stood out in the blistering heat with my 6 month old daughter for 1/2 hour waitng for this lazy proprietor. I decided for my nephews birthday to get him something other than computer games or games for his x-box. I thought a cool kite would be something that would get him outdoors but be heaps of fun. I searched for a good kite store and found this one located in Oak Park. I was not disappointed when I went into the store. The range of their kites is unbelievable with everything for either a beginner or an expert kite flyer. I got him one of their stunt kites in the shape of a fighter jet in the US Flag colors and he loves it. It does all the tricks but is easy enough as he is a beginner. The other products in their store are fun to look at and I almost purchased some for me.
