Happy Owner 8/30/2012

Dr.D.Thompson took time to listen to my concerns for my little girl Drifter as she did for my boy Puma, who is in kitty heaven. Her understanding, compassion, innovation, dedication and integrity as well as the attention to the needs of her patients is outstanding.I do not believe they are over priced as many say. This is a cat hospital, that means they specialize in cats and know the best treatment for them.I been to other and its pay first then we'll fix your pet.Cat Hospital is pet first, money second,THAT MEAN A LOT TO A PET OWNER.Sure go to your local Dog&Cat hospital like I did and was told they would not treat her until I payed in full first, add insult to injury, they started treatment and I cant have her till I pay. They took her off life support ended treatment till I came up with money.I promise her she would never see another Dog&Cat hospital again. She made it to Cat Hospital and lived a long good happy life.Thank You Cat Hospital. more

Best in the Business 5/21/2009

I have taken my cats elsewhere in the city. Never again. CHOC is the only place I trust. The desk staff is so kind and will gladly mail prescribed and OTC products.\r The doctors (we've been seen by 3) thoroughly examine my girls (yes they hate it, whatever) while taking care to provide a calm, stress-free environment. \r The techs gently handle the kitties, speaking very quietly.\r The fee structure is about the same as the other clinics. \r CHOC is about all cats all the time! more

Good doctors but this place drives me nuts, too. 7/19/2008

This was originally my stress-relieving rant because nine times out of ten I get either the brand-new desk person, the incredibly ditzy desk person, or the too-arrogant-and-self-assured-in-her-own-righteousness-for-someone-who-isn't-actually-a-vet desk person, and I finally snapped and gave Cat Hospital of Chicago a bad review, which I am now revising.\r \r These three archetypes of Cat Hospital desk folk aren't any one person, btw, they seem to be someone I haven't experienced before every time I bring my cats in. This place can have serious attitude problems here and there, I find, that I haven't encountered elsewhere in 15 years of patronizing cats-only vet clinics in 3 major cities. You can leave this place slimed with the bad-cat-parent brush for something like not spending $200 on tests on top of the already pricey exam/procedures/flea meds/prescription food for a seemingly perfectly healthy cat, "just in case". I've never walked out of this clinic for less than $250, and those more

Response to Dave Miller & Anonymous 5/14/2008

I am the owner of Cat Hospital of Chicago. I am sorry that these two cat owners have had negative experiences with our hospital. I would like to respond to both of them here.First of all, regarding Mr. Miller's experience, prescription diets are indeed available only through veterinarians, and are not available for over-the-counter purchase. Prescription diets are formulated to meet specific nutritional requirements for individual patients with defined health issues-either to treat or prevent progression/recurrence of those issues. Because these are prescription diets, a valid patient/doctor relationship must be maintained in order for us to continue to prescribe these diets. This means that the patient for whom the diet is prescribed needs to be seen by one of our veterinarians at least once yearly to assess the need for our continuing the diet. This is the law in the State of Illinois, and it exists because it is in the best interest of our patients. These are therapeutic diets, and i more

Too Expensive 4/21/2008

It's really tough because although I have used them in the past, they continually seem to drive me crazy each time I go in with my two cats. They are over the top for expensive and probably unnecessary testing. The result was a wopping bill for my two cats that almost gave this human a heart attack. And to add to the stress, the whole ordeal lasted two hours because these highly trained techs couldn't draw blood and urine from a helpless sixteen year old cat. more

Bad experience at Cat Hospital of Chicago 3/19/2008

On Wednesday March 19th my wife Michelle called Cat Hospital of Chicago to order dental food for our cat. When she came into their office after work to pick it up the woman behind the counter embarrassed my wife in front of everyone there telling her that our cat was three months late for it?s annual appointment and they could no longer sell us 10 pounds of cat food for $37.00 unless we brought in our cat and paid the $180.00 cost for his physical. They then implied that she was a bad mommy for not taking proper care of our animal in front of a full lobby of customers.\r \r My wife, who loves animals, came home devastated and angry at their tactics. She and I first rescued our cat 8 years ago when as a kitten it was freezing to death behind a 7/11. We nursed him back to health, spending over $1000 in the process and gave him a nice home with a dog we adopted from Anti Cruelty.\r \r I love my wife and hate seeing her upset, especially because of a classless Cat Hospital of Chicago ta more

Thorough, compassionate cat care 2/15/2008

I have been very impressed with the quality of service at the Cat Hospital of Chicago. In veterinary care as with anything else, you get what you pay for. The doctors here are very thorough, compassionate and skilled. They are always willing to answer questions and to discuss the pros and cons of various treatments. I live in a southwest suburb of Chicago, but still take my two senior cats to the north side because I trust the Cat Hospital and appreciate the calm, soothing environment they provide for cat care. Pros: kitty kat love is apparent more

Not impressed 7/30/2007

Having lived all over the country and watching the growth of cat only care, I quickly became hooked on the cat only environment. There is, however, caution to be made. Thinking that Vets who own or work in cat only clinics are far better trained than the averge vet in a mixed environment is not always the case. I took my cat to this clinic. I was not impressed. It isn't a loving environment. Costs are extremely high. When I researched the background of the vets, there was absolutely nothing in the way of advanced education that could have possibly justified the costs vs. care ratio. I was not impressed with the cleanliness. Compassion was a foreign concept. From the moment I walked in the door, I had a cold feeling. Dr. Cherwonky may have gone to Vet school and passed the State licensing exam but there's just not much else there. Compassion, empathy, demonstrtive love of cats--- all of the things you expect in a Vet seemed to be lost in the cold efficiency of the place. Pros: Efficient Cons: Over-priced. Assembly-line care. Compassion-less, cold environment more

rude staff 11/27/2005

-I couldn't believe how incredibly rude the receptionist was. I called to make an appointment, as I am new to the area and need a new vet. I asked basic questions: How much is an office visit, what type of animals does this practice see, etc. I was treated like I was wasting her time and every answer was followed by, or started with, a sarcastic sigh. Quite frankly, I couldn't see taking my animals to a vet that employs people like this. more

Great place for cats! 8/22/2005

My kitty got sick and I needed help. I made appt online and got a call back that same day. Once there we did not wait at all. We were immediately seen by Dr. Czerwonky. She listened to me and my concerns and answered all of my questions. She not only made my kitty feel better, she also calmed me down. This is a great place for cat owners who want what is best for your precious little babies. It feels great to finally find a vet who listens and is not quick to prescribe in order to get you out of their office. Pros: Loving staff, No waiting, Cat experts!!! more

a haven for cats! 7/5/2005

This is a great place for cat owners. In addition to the fact this place is only for cats so you don't have to worry about some dog growling at your cat stuck in your carrier, its friendly. They have great doctors that are very knowledgeable and will keep working with you until they find a suitable solution They have a little store of great products as well as a food delivery service. Making an appointment is easy and usually easy to get in quickly. Also, they are good about running on time. They have a great website as well. more
