Great happy hour 8/5/2010

I love their happy hour! It's til 7pm every night which is awesome (and rare), and their prices are great. The hummus is delicious. I don't love their drink menu though, personally. I'd love if they updated it. more

Great Food/Great Service 1/26/2009

The food here is amazing! You can't find food like this at any other bar in Portland. Get the blackened Salmon with coconut rice! The staff has always been fun and sincere. I love this bar! Plus - it's right next to the Goodfoot so you can hop over for great food in between dancing like a crazy person. Pros: Awesome Food Cons: None! more

best bar food in town 1/22/2009

I don't really come here to hang out, I come here for the food. I believe they serve it up until closing, or close to it. I would die for their po' boys. Seriously delicious. Actually, everything I've eaten here is delicious. The service is good, and I like the atmosphere, it's dark and cozy with a little bit of trashy drunk thrown in. Pros: the menu Cons: street parking more

Favorite neighborhood bar 8/21/2008

One of the best food quality late night bars. A bit to frenetic for my taste on the Friday and Saturday, but if you are looking for some hipster 20-somethings out-on-the-town they might be there dressed up and all. No meat market by any means (besides a few pathetic hopefuls). Service is basic, variable, and generally friendly. I had some vegetarian Seattlites in town and brought them there for late night eats and they were extremely happy. I enjoy the Philly Steak sandwich when done right (cheese melted whithin). Really my favorite place despite some long-time-customer gripes. more

i guess see for yourself. 4/10/2008

The bonfire is your typical southeast bar... atmosphere is fine yet sometimes crowded. pool=fun. pinball=fun. food= tasty. the one and most obvious drawback i have heard numerous people comment on is the utter pretentiousness of the bartenders. all it takes for a great little spot like the bonfire is friendly or nonfriendly employees to make or break the place. Pros: food. friends when they're there Cons: service. nonfriendliness more

Bonfire: A Poem About French Fries 4/16/2006

The drinks are outstanding, the crowd is hip, the bathrooms are amusing, the artwork is a trip...but the french fries, oh the french fries, are the best in P-town. Pepper and salt, crispy and brown...go for a pint, and a shot of booze...order some french fries---you can not lose! Pros: great sidewalk patio, excellent music, people watching Cons: smoky, can be crowded more

Best Fries EVER!!! 3/31/2005

If you get the right chef, these fries are juuuuust right...perfect seasoning, not too greasy, just the right amount of crunch to them...YUMMERS. more

All roads lead to the Bonfire... 5/6/2004

Get Kassapakalypsed! If your night in SE PDX doesn't start here, it will probably end here. Let the Bros. Kassapakis and their cohort tend to your every need. Open 'til 2:30, and the food is delish, so leave those drunken Taco Bell runs behind and upgrade to the Bonfire's delicious gyros, which are kind of like upscale gorditas. Pros: Food=delish, Inexpensive, Slammin' Cons: , at, Malkmus more

Missylou123 4/24/2003

I have been to the Bonfire a few times now and the best part is the wonderfull servers. Not only are they fast and polite but one so handsome as well. Yummy Pros: Billy, George, Roger more

cool place 12/26/2002

Good atmosphere, friendly, with good drinks. Would be better if they had some live music or DJ's. more

GREAT bar! 8/11/2002

I have been here almost 20 times already. There is good, cheap food, and for lack of a better word, nice goth/punk candle-lit 'mood lighting'. You also get well-made drinks, and friendly service. It is consistently good. It's hip without that crappy catatonic 'hipster' service you get in a lot of other SE Portland places. Pros: Good Menu, Good Drinks, Good Service Cons: None more

Editorial
  • In Short
A neighborhood crowd gathers in the red-walled room hung with surrealistic prints. Good music is in the background--not so loud that people can't hear their friends. The bar turns out solid grub to keep your drink company. The burger is simple but yummy, Greek salad is surprisingly fresh. Gyros, both beef and chicken, come with a super garlicky tzatziki sauce that should be avoided on dates but otherwise rocks.
