Mediocre 5/16/2011

Nothing great. The only awful dish was the veal. The rest was subpar for the price - there weren't any palate teasers for sure. The service was VERY good, which was the only redeeming quality of the dining experience. Try something more interesting for the money. more

Terrible Service - not worth the price 9/18/2009

Space had potential to be a great restaurant. Dined last night to try something different. Service was terrible - didn't get water or someone to take a drink order for over 10 mins, plates were never cleared etc. Service is better at Chili's. Food looks great on paper was bland. Especially given the price points, big dissapointment. Cons: Service was bad, food was tasteless and over priced more

Lamb Bacon!!!! 6/18/2009

Had a fabulous experience in Baur's yesterday. I a lamb dish, which included house cured Lamb bacon, wow! It was to die for. Also, my service was top notch. You can really tell the manager knows what the customer needs. Never had a empty water glass, the staff was very attentive. The wine list a++. KUDOS. Pros: Everything Cons: Weren't any more

Great old building serving good food 9/19/2008

I had lunch at Baur's yesterday, mostly because I love architecture and the owner, Sammy Labato, has restored this wonderful old building. In fact, as I was waiting to be served and was alone, he brought me a book ot its history and of the Baur family. I had a caesar salad which was good, the croutons was the best part. Then came the dagwood, a large kaiser roll with moist chicken breast, ham and melted provolone topped with tomato. The spicy mayo was perfect with this sandwich. Salad was $8, sandwich was $10. more

Victory is no longer there! 9/18/2008

We thought we'd go eat here because we had the entertainment book but the restaurant is not there anymore. It's now Baur's Ristorante and the entire management has changed. So, no more Victory! Cons: No longer in operation! more

Excellent service and food 1/1/2008

Baurs was our choice for NYE 2008 and everything was exceptional. We picked Baurs because of their reasonable prices and they offered the full menu, not a limited, high price menu like most restaruants in Denver. more

I'd take man8ape's review with a grain of salt. 10/23/2007

I haven't eaten here in quite some time and I'm giving it an average rating, but it might have changed. But I am warning you that you might take man8ape's review with a grain of salt. This restaurant and Sams#3 are owned by the same people, and are located directly around the corner from Rialto Cafe. Funny, man8ape has only reviewed 3 restaurants all on the same day. (as of 2007-10-24). Giving this and Sams excellent reviews and a bad one to Rialto. Pros: great location of you're going to the theater Cons: service can be great, but can miss too. more

Killer Food: still on trial... 6/15/2007

okay, so i came on line to do what i never do... write a review. seriously who has the time? but i had to share the great experience i had at the victory! yet when i got to city search and looked up the victory i was astonished at some of the harsh reviews. and then i looked at the dates. this place must have made a 180 degree turn around from a year ago. seriously. the menu is GREAT (and i never capitalize). the food is DELICIOUS. the decor is BEAUTIFUL. and the service is OUTSTANDING. what a find. i will be a regular for a long long time! Pros: Excellent food at a great value Cons: No parking or valet, but hey it's downtown what do you expect more

Nothing special 4/9/2007

To tell you the truth, the only reason we went here was because we had a coupon. Well, maybe we didn't order the right thing, but I feel I could of got a better sandwhich at Denny's. I had ordered the Dagwood Club which was hard, dry and burnt. Our dinner rolls tasted like they hadn't been defrosted all the way. The service was very prompt and helpful but for a $10 basic sandwich I would have expected a little better quality. Pros: good service, nice atmosphere Cons: sandwiches - not worth paying for more

Try the Fool's Gold. Seriously. Try it. It's very good. You'd be a fool not to. 3/15/2007

We were in Denver visiting friends and decided to top up our bellies with some tasty food. We walked around a while in the snow looking for a decent place to pull up a chair. Everything we came across seemed so inadequate that we almost gave up. Then, just when we were about to (seriously) we found Victory. How could we not try this place? With a name like Victory, it's a sure win. And boy-howdy it was! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Location, Charming Old Building Cons: Nothing more

great atmosphere 2/27/2007

it started off slow, but it gets better each time. great steaks. great crab cakes. the peanut butter, jelly, and bacon sandwich was amazing! who woulda thought--elvis i guess. Pros: great atmosphere no matter what you're doing downtown Cons: no parking more

Great Food, Great Service, and Great Friends 2/10/2007

Was in Denver visiting some friends when we decided to try something new. Found our way into Victory for a casual dinner and were not dissapointed, in fact, very impressed. They were able to quickly accomodate our large group (11) without a reservation in a very comfortable manner, not to mention being there at the same time as a wedding rehersal dinner. Our service was very professional and a lot of fun to interact with. The food was served in a timely fashion and was excellent. I highly recommend the Fool's Gold Sandwich. The combination of peanut butter, blueberry jelly, and bacon on a loaf of French bread had me scratching my head at first, but after the first bite, I new I was in love. The leftovers the next day were even delicious. Pros: Service, Great Food, Atmosphere Cons: I didn't leave room for dessert more

Great Place! 2/6/2007

I really enjoyed dining at Victory. A couple friends and I were in downtown and decided to wander in for a few beers and ended up staying for dinner. The atmosphere was extremely comfortable. Upscale enough to convey quality and yet casual enough to feel comfortable in jeans and a polo. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. Make sure you try a few of their delicious apps before deciding on a main course. Highly recommended! more

Great Service, Better Food 2/4/2007

Last night, I took my family to Victory for dinner. First, I was blown away by the beautiful decour. The vaulted ceilings and chandeliers make for an upscale feel that impresses your family friends without hurting the pocketbook. We will be back many times. more

Try the Fool's Gold!!! 2/4/2007

I had a great experience at the Victory. There was a group of 6 of us that were in the mood for great food that wouldn't break the bank. We started off with the Elvis tribute -Fool's Gold sandwich, a combination of peanut butter, blueberry jelly, and bacon. I was skeptical at first, but I will be going back many times for this incredible sandwich. The full loaf of bread was devoured within minutes of being delivered, so we ordered another. Make sure to negotiate the price, we didn't pay close to the suggested $52.80 that the menu lists. Our entrees were fantastic as well. The Mac and cheese was a favorite as was the meatball sandwich. Great atmosphere and drink menu. They have an awesome beer from the Victory brewing company called the ""golden monkey"", which I have yet to find anywhere else. I will definately be going back to the Victory. Pros: Great historic location, food, atmosphere Cons: Parking is difficult more

Great experience at Victory! 1/27/2007

I truly enjoyed the atmosphere at the Victory. It was full but not too loud. Our server was excellent and was very knowledgeable about the entire menu. I ordered the stuffed pork chops which were delicious and fairly priced. For dessert we had the bananas foster which was made right in front of us and flamed tableside! It was a very unique way to experience having dessert and made for a great conversation. I would recommend this restaurant anytime. It is right in the historical Baurs building which makes you feel right at home in Denver. After going to the theatre this was a very convenient and welcoming place to dine. I look forward to my next experience. more

not bad at all, for late-night happy hour 1/11/2007

my bf and i were walking around after getting back to our hotel from seeing the nuggets/jazz game and happened across this place. we sat in the bar and had a couple beers and some appetizers for a mere $12! the bartender made my new favorite beer blend - stella and guiness, which apparently they call a belgian brunette in denver - and the prime rib sliders were yummy! i don't know about their regular dinner fare, but the happy hour was well worth the value. Pros: late night happy hour more

Love the food and the historic feel of the building! 1/4/2007

I was walking on 16th Street one night with my husband. We were looking for something different than we usually see (Paramount Cafe, Palomino, Cheese Cake Factory...) We stopped by the Victory. We had a great time; the food was excellent and different! We were happy to discover another historic building of downtown Denver that we never really paid attention to before. more

Spend your money at a better restaurant 7/13/2006

The original idea, moderate price fare to match the chef's limited skills, was not a bad one. It's pretty hard to mess up a buffalo burger. But, the new menu is overpriced, and for the same money I can eat a much better restuarant downtown. We went back after a few casual dinner trips there to find they were trying to become a steakhouse. My husband had the beef tritips that tasted like Chef Boy Ar Dee sans the Beef, on top of what appeared to be reconstituted potatoes. The only great thing about the meal was the starter of cucumber soup and avacado salad, which tasted like an actual culinary effort. If you want to spend $50 + on dinner, don't do it here. more

no bang for your buck here 5/31/2006

my friends and i were out for girls night. we stopped by only because there was no wait on our way to a show. this should have told us something. it took 10 minutes to get our drinks ordered, another 10 minutes to get them and they were not mixed right. food was hot and tasted good but again we had an unbelievable wait time. waiters/waitresses all standing around talking w/ each other no one asked us if we needed refills, additional items, nothing. Pros: food hot, taste good, location Cons: service bad, service bad , service bad more
