Once the LARGEST ROUNDHOUSE IN THE WORLD; it now houses many"movie" engines! 1/21/2013

From the other reviewers,I agree. The "Funnel type smokestack" is the WILLIAM MASON steam engine seen in many a cowboy movie+Disney movies. The collection houses the TOM THUMB also a copy? of the John Bull ??(not sure going on 40 year old memory); but, am sure that my father put both of them in the roundhouse 40 yrs ago. If you look down at the floor intersection between turntable and floor, you will see 180 degrees apart-2 square holes. These were for placement of an oak rod to turn the turntable(with LOCOMOTIVE ON IT !) by hand. It is that well balanced! Many other things to do here.I just hope the historians here have kept up there database. Thanks Rick more

Amazing train museum 3/17/2006

I loved my visit to the B&O Railroad Museum. Although I'm about as far as you might get from being a fan of the railroad, this museum is great. It's home to one of the few roundhouses left in the USA (whose roof collapsed a few years ago). They've spent a good deal trying to update the museum and increasing exhibition space, all of which have been a success. This is a great museum for kids and adults alike! more

open again... 10/11/2005

The B&O Railroad Museum has been closed for awhile due to a tragic blizzard that caused the roof to cave in. Now, it's open again and back up and better than ever. I have always had an especially great time here especially at the many events that are held there. A great place for visitors and Baltimoreans alike. more

Great Place 9/15/2005

I really dont care for trains, but when I was invited to go to the B&O Railroad Museum I said why not. To my surprise I really had a great time. I was really happy on how much there was for my 2 year old to do there. They have a train ride, a train play ground, and a REAL train ride that goes a mile or so down the track. She cried when it was time to leave. I will be back there for sure!!! more

fun museum to visit 9/13/2005

I had not been there since my kids were small, but thought I would check it out since the roof collapsed. It had been renovated inside...so now the place is better than ever. Still hands-on and informative. The place has so much to offer. Free parking is always a big plus... more

Was great now even better!!! 8/21/2005

So I had not been to the B & O Railroad Museum since I was in middle school many years ago until just a few weeks ago. I remember the museum was very well put togeather, informative and fun. Since the massive flood they renovated the whole museum and it is even better than it was before. The can not miss part of the B & O Railroad Museum is thier amazing display of real trains. This is a great visit for an amature engineer or young children to light the fire of engineering and thier love and fascination of trains! . more

Huge Train Collection 8/21/2005

Since the train museum was renovated after the collapse, its bigger and better than ever. The star of the show is the collection of real trains in the roundhouse. There are exhibits on the history of trains, particularly as important in the Baltimore area. This is a must-see for the young engineer, or even the young-at-heart. more

Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum 8/20/2005

I've always loved going to the B&O Railroad Museum. It's the biggest, and the oldest collection of American railroads in the entire world! It has railroads and railroad related exhibits with artifacts dating back to the 1830s. Although the museum deals with American railroads as a whole, it specializes in the railroading of the mid-Atlantic region. It's a great place to visit and learn some history. more

Still great after renovation 7/29/2005

The B&O Railroad Museum's roof caved in during our big snowstorm a couple years ago, but it's back up and running and just as interesting as ever. My kids always have an especially great time at the B&O, and they love it when Thomas the Tank Engine comes to visit! A Baltimore must see. more
