Every once in a while, since about 1980, we go back to see if they've changed. They haven't. Don't even bother with this place - go out to Boring or Aloha if you want surplus.
First, the cash register still just lists prices - twice we purchased a number of items; found a couple days later we didn't get all the items in the bags though we paid for them. Both times we took our receipt in & they acted like we were trying to rip them off - they got our money & we didn't get our items. They weren't even expensive ($7 highest) - you'd think someone would notice something left behind the counter but they don't bother with anything like organization.
Second, the prices on so many things (now they carry Condor - overpriced) are higher & sometimes much higher than you'll pay elsewhere. A few items are put out at low cost but these are usually poor quality (their blades are almost all bad Asian steel, for more $ than they're worth & more than you'd pay at the late great Joe's for example, if you want a cheap knife with a bendy-blade). A lot of Asian steel is good, but you won't find it here.
Third, there are some decent guys there but the manager & his pets are nasty as all get out - disagree with 'em even politely & you'll get a real dose of their attitude, which is arrogant. They seem to think they're doing me a favor by running a dirty, expensive store.
Fourth, their 'surplus' is godawful! It's always been peculiar, this last visit it looked like a bunch of stuff they'd picked up at a Goodwill & repriced for their own sale.
We keep hoping this place will change & it just gets more attitude as the years go on - that seems to be what it's all about now, the attitude & appearance, no substance.
Pros: Faux surplus store with dirt-based decor
Cons: Overpriced, poor attitude, poor quality
