I visited the new location of Aequis and I have to say the decor is lovely. Although the staff was bending over backward to please me I truly felt that the quality of the massage...

Positive Experience 8/2/2007

After a scheduling issue, the staff at Aequis was able to redeem themselves with a Romance Package for free. My husband and I enjoyed the experience and staff at Aequis. I would recommend a roof top massage on a sunny day in Portland. more

Decadent Bliss, Beyond this world! 6/17/2007

My partner and I went last night for an anniversary couple's massage. The therapists were amazingly attentive and worked together so well, I joked with my partner about how they were like "synchronized swimmers"; moving together in unison and exactly on beat. It made our experience as a couple very harmonious. I have had tons of experience with spas and bodywork. This was my partner?s first massage ever! It just shows their range, their ability to make people feel comfortable and relaxed. One of the things about spas is that often you really get the feeling that this is their "job" and how tired and drained they seem. It's there just under the surface. It is often times difficult for me to tune their disharmony out, and enjoy. However, at Aequis, these therapists were genuinely creating a co-creative experience for us all. They knew how to manage their energy and it was a real treat. Thank you Aequis we will be back! Thank you Stefanie & Jesse! Pros: Atmosphere is Euphoric... Cons: Parking more

High Integrity 6/7/2007

I visit spas frequently and I have to share something with folks here. I get "marketed" to constantly, e-mailers, ads, e-mails asking me to vote, discounts if I vote for Best Spa, postcards, phone calls...one salon/spa (that is really BIG) called me 3 times! I love Aequis because they are what they say they are. They really care about their customers, I have never had a hounding 2 or 3 e-mails asking me to "vote" for them...I get a confirmation call 2 or 3 days ahead of time, I get a thank you note. That's it. Thank you Aequis Spa for not treating me like all I am is a Visa Card and a Vote. Thank you for being kind to my mother when I brought her in. Thank you for making a beautiful Spa in Portland that doesn't make me feel like I have to buy something every time I come in the door. I'll keep going to different spas for the variety...but I've never, ever had the experience anywhere that I've had at Aequis. Thank you! Pros: They care about you, you aren't just a VISA card Cons: None. more

Amazing experience 5/29/2007

First off, I have never been so relaxed in my life. I was skeptical at first, walking into the big room and getting the foot soak, but the lady was nice and it was relaxing. When they had me close my eyes and one-by-one nod 'yes' or 'no' to different essential oil scents, it was like I was discovering the smell of cardamon or ginger for the first time. At that moment, I totally surrendered to the experience. The facial was amazing. I loved every second: the papaya face mask, the spritzing lightly scented water on my face, the warm towel wrapped around my head and tucked in like a baby. It was so peaceful and relaxing and I felt like a movie star afterwards when I looked in the mirror and saw my glowing face. The massage was equally wonderful and relaxing. I was in a state between sleep and conciousness with gentle rain forest sounds in the background. If I had the money, I would give their Perfect Gift package to everyone I know and love. more

Best massage in a long time... 4/1/2007

Aequis rules. The front desk girl was very professional and chill. Right away when you walk into Aequis you feel relaxed. I liked the dimly lit entrance. The big room that you relax in while you get your foot soak is very luxurious. The foot soak is a great way to get started on your massage. I've never had anything like that. My massage therapist, Lynn, was very personable and professional. She asked great questions and made me feel very comfortable. It was my first spa experience, so I was nervous. The music at times was a little overwhelming, but the massage was great! She gave me a very relaxing massage, and was able to go much deeper than anyone has before. The massage teased all my senses. I liked being able to rest after my massage. The shower after the massage was excellent. I want a huge shower head for my home. I will definetly go back! Pros: massage therapist, Shower, atmosphere. Cons: none more

A True Gem 2/2/2007

A few notes about Aequis: (I'll get right to the point) 1: Hands down, best ambiance in the Portland Spa scene. They literally transfer to another world full of spice, fragrance, and exotic rituals. 2: Entire staff maintain the same exotic mystique that seem to melt down stress 3: You just get more for your buck - custom robe, foot washing ritual, scented teas and more depending on your package. 4: Qualify of massage can be good to great depending on masseuse. I'm not very good about remembering names, but everyone has been good. 5: Try some of the more exotic treatments on the menu. If you're only interested in the best massage, you may find a better provider. When it comes to the total experience, Aequis has the others beat. Pros: Exotic and mysterious Cons: inconsistent massage more

Best Spa Services Hands Down 1/10/2007

After receiving spa services around the world and living in the Bahamas where we have some great spas, I have to share with Portland that Aequis Spa is by far the very best I've visited. I made my appointment with ease from my hotel, the spa confirmed my appointment and even asked more questions about my spa expectations. Upon arrival, I was greeting promptly and professionally in a soothing manner and all the minute details were perfect. The room for my foot service is large and decadent with candlelight, the masseur was very communicative and skilled. I received a therapeutic fusion massage and have to say that Melinda was superb. Her demeanor was soft spoken yet direct and it was the perfect pressure. I was left to rest as long as I liked and was gracefully lead to a beautiful washing room. When I left, I asked if they had any intention of opening a spa in the Bahamas - I know I will return many times and miss them often when I'm home. Pros: Attentive, Professional, Very Skilled Cons: Absolutely None. more

Best gift I ever got! 11/12/2006

I was given a gift certificate for my birthday and as a guy - it took me awhile to make an appointment. First, the gift card has a picture of a girl on it so I wasn't sure how many guys actually go to a spa. When I called I was expertly treated, they answered all my questions without making me feel wierd. Do I leave clothes on? all clothes off? Where do I shower? The girl who answered the phone joked with me and I felt like a spa expert by the time I got off the phone. They SAID that almost half their clients are men - hard to believe but when I arrived a couple days later there were two guys there - 1 couple and one by himself. So, even though I felt like a spa expert - I felt a LOT more relaxed. Aeequis is a great place. It's big - but not cold. The girls are nice and I had a great massage - the only problem is that now I'll have to make it part of my routine - I think that is what my wife was after anyway. Pros: Friendly Girls, Easy Parking, Great Massage for Men more

Excellent overall experience 11/11/2006

From beginning to end, this spa provides an excellent experience for you. Well organized, excellent therapists. Very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Pros: Foot massage/Deep muscle message Cons: feather tool used briefly to stimulate skin. Not for me more

nice, but expensive 10/8/2006

I have gone to Aequis for years, and it has always been a nice experience. I liked the old location a bit more, the new one is a bit more upscale and trendy. The esthetician always does a good job, though I have had good and bad massages, but the atmosphere is always relaxing! More expensive than most places in Portland without a lot more in terms of service - but at least you don't have to tip! Pros: facials, atmosphere Cons: expensive, massages more

Best Facial I've Ever Had. 9/26/2006

I am visiting from out of town and have received facials all around the world. Megan and April gave me the best facial I've had - anywhere. I am in town on business and they really gave me such a beautiful time. I commend this spa on the customer service and thoughtful nature. I did not think to make the appointment for my brows and I didn't mention it until my facial appointment was to begin. The spa was full but they made time for my brows. I really cannot say enough. Bar none - it was the best facial and best spa professionalism I've ever had. Pros: The spa is professional and provides superior service. Cons: None to think of more

Incredible! 9/17/2006

I was so pleased with my time at Aequis. I was reading the reviews below and either someone had a bad day - or I went to a different spa. I was greeted immediately and offered tea, rested before I changed and went through a curtain to this GRAND room. The main room is huge with windows floor to ceiling and a beautiful deck view to plants and the city in the background. My massage was so unusual and amazing and my facial was pure bliss. At most spas I've been to you get a quick hand massage but this was shoulder, arm, hand and every finger! Really, an amazing time and I WILL go back again and again. I would have wanted to leave a tip - but there was nowhere to leave one on my card - a nice surprise! Pros: Beautiful, Spacious, Professional & Clean Cons: Can't live t here! more

Still the best (in my opinion) 8/29/2006

overall, best spa in Portland (take it from someone who's visited most every other facility). Although massages there can be average, you just can't beat the overall experience - I am one of those who feel there more to a spa experience than just the massage itself. They really know how to pamper someone. And, if you happen to get a great masseuse- more icing on the cake. Pros: Atmosphere - spa experience Cons: Hard to get good help consistently more

A Spa-goers favorite! 8/16/2006

I visit various spas approximately 16 times per year, and have visited spas all over the United States. Of all the spas I have visited, Aequis Spa is my absolute favorite. I live in Seattle but travel to Portland just to visit this spa. The facility is gorgeous and a haven for relaxation, and the staff is not only pleasant and knowledgable, but there is also zero awkwardness before, during or after treatments. Though the prices are higher than a typical day spa, the total bill actually comes out to what I'd expect to pay at a spa after gratuity (this spa does not accept gratuities). The treatments at this spa are not the plain-jane wraps, massages and facials you find at most other spas, but don't let that scare you. Even if you have never been to a spa before, you will find this spa a terrific first-spa experience. Take a friend or sister and enjoy your experiences together! Pros: Ultimate in relaxation and fabulous detox treatments Cons: Parking is limited more

Mediocre all-around 8/12/2006

I had heard so many great reviews about this spa, I had to check it out. I was unimpressed overall. I left several messages and didn't get calls back, they were difficult to schedule with, and finding the place proved to be rather difficult. Although the spa it's self is beautiful, it does not compensate for the over-priced treatments I received. Then to top it off, they charged my credit card twice! Pros: pretty spa Cons: unprofessional, over priced, charged my credit card twice! more

Every detail for me personally. 6/4/2006

Aequis is my escape. I have been here many times and it doesn't matter who I see although I have my favorites. I've had massages from Jesse and Michelle and they were both incredible. I've had blissful facials from two different girls and they both were completely different but wonderful at the same time. They always know what tea I like and have the right size robe waiting. I cannot say enough good things about Aequis. It has a special place in my heart and I hope I never move. Pros: The Talented Staff, Easy to Get To, The Details more

Best Spa I've Been To in Years 6/2/2006

Thank you to Aequis Spa & Retreat. Your facility and spa is the best I've been to in years. My massage was perfect. It couldn't have been any better. Thank you! Pros: Great Spa more

Incredible Spa - Kind people 5/31/2006

I've been to several spas in Portland - and I don't know if the reviewer before me even went to this spa. I just came home and can say they are NOT snooty in anyway whatsoever! Yes, it is a beautiful and impressive, but it's also really clean, well organized and the staff are down to earth, kind, loving and completely "non" snooty. I had an incredible massage from Stephanie and loved the calm, loving care she gave me. I hope people who want a real, loving, talented spa go to Aequis - you would never be sorry. Pros: Loving, Beautiful, Not Crowded more

Aequis Spa is Heaven 5/30/2006

I rode up the elevator and entered Nirvana. It was Heaven. I scheduled (which can be a little challenging because they are in such high demand) an amazing facial and when I arrived they offered me a complimentary spa pedicure. What a gift. I was asleep after my pedicure and my girl let me rest. I tried to leave a tip but they softly declined and wished me a beautiful night. I felt very special and especially stress free. Namaste to you Aequis. Pros: Meditative Space, Dark, Restful Cons: Nothing - Perfect more
