AT Smith & Company used a collection agency to attempt to collect a unknown debt from 4 years ago. They arbitrarily increased the bill 3 times. On January 14th of 2014 I received a letter from Continental Collection Agency stating I owed AT Smith & Company an open amount 0f $162.50 from the dissolution of my apartment in May of 2010. Once I received the letter, I immediately called the collection agency to get more information. I informed the collection agency my intention to pay the debt if it was legitimate, but I wanted to ensure it was valid. I had never received any confirmation of the amount owed at any time. AT Smith & Company had my contact information to include email address and phone number but never contacted me regarding the amount owed. They apparently sent the bill to the same address I had previously moved out of, fully knowing I didn't live there anymore. Upon further review of my email conversations with my property manager Ruby ****. The last email received stated ""I have your unit rented where to you want me to send the deposit disbursement?"". I moved out of the unit early and I was told that if they rented the unit early, I would not have to pay the Tenant Procurement fee, only for the days it lay vacant. I made this information available to the collection agency in writing as required by law, in order to keep the issue off my credit report. I also asked that they confirm this with AT Smith & Company and have them check to see if this was correct. What happened next was I received another statement from the collection agency stating I now owed $317.00 and they placed a mark on my credit report in violation of the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I immediately called CCA and demanded they take the mark off my credit and asked why the amount arbitrarily increased after I asked for verification. In another stunning development, on March 3rd of 2014 I received another letter from CCA stating now I owed even more, a total of $461.85. I asked them how, by way of me asking to verify the validity of the debt, that the amount could arbitrarily go up. I informed them that I would be contacting my attorney in regards to this matter and report this unethical practice. AT Smith & Company tried to take advantage of the situation from 4 years ago to move around an agreement they made with me prior. I showed them written proof, I was supposed to get a deposit back based on statements from my property manager at the time. I even agreed to pay the $165 and sent them a check because I definitely have better things to do than argue over such a petty amount, but the fact they decided to take such a rude and unethical stance in regards to my offer to address the issue in their favor shows the lack of professionalism of their staff. more

We've been dealing with AT Smith and CO for a while now, and they have not been a bad company to work with. The office staff is friendly when we have had to call or stop by. But our complaint is of NIKKI HART / SMITH. Nikki is the reason for the bad review.\r \r Nikki will initially give the illusion of being a nice person... to your face. She is a liar, and she is two faced. She is condescending, quick to blame quick to reject responsibility, and inconsistent with ""office policies"". \r \r Recently after a phone conversation we had with her, her condescending attitude talking to us like we were uneducated dolts - lead my mind to fantasizing about slapping her. Would have felt wonderful, but only would have led to more problems. But one can dream, right?\r \r We are in the process of filing a complaint, but will wait till our lease expires, for Nikki strikes us as the unstable vindictive type, and don't know what kind of unethical stuff she is capable of. more

I would recommend A.T. Smith & Co. to any one. I would like to thank A.T. Smith & Co. and my contact for this property, they have been nothing but professional, supportive, understanding and wonderful through out my five years of being their tenant. Five years ago I relocated back to Denver as a single mother with three children relocating from Trinidad, CO and they made my transition less stressful. My three children are all now grown and moving on to college or to start their own lives, so I too must move on. I leave this property that we called home for five years with nothing but great fullness and memories. I would recommend A.T. Smith & Co. to any one who is in need of a great place to call home. more

They recently took over my apt management for rent. I delivered my paycheck on the 1st, which was OVER two weeks ago. Still hasn't been cashed! I also emailed their office about a front window repair--my front window doesn't lock at ALL so I told them that I feel vulnerable. Someone could easily slide the window open and break in. This was sent two weeks ago. No response. I tried calling a few times to follow up, but just get their voicemail. No communication at all. I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. They say they're operating for hundreds of other properties...but when you have that many, you should PROBABLY hire more office personnel to keep up, so you'll actually be able to execute what you say you will. more

I have been renting from At Smith and CO for a short time and my experience has been a disaster. They never answer the phone or return phone calls and have adopted the ""Customer is always wrong"" approach to business. When you finally get the manager on the phone they are full of excuses as to why they can't perform their job. Their voice mail box's are always full and it's obvious why. When you don't answer your phone or return phone calls people start calling repeatedly and leave messages. Very unprofessional company staffed with very unqualified people. New management need's to come in and turn this business around. Don't rent from them, don't bother calling them and make sure and check out the other reviews that have been posted. Make sure and ignore the obvious fake ones. more

People at this company posts ads on Craigslist for rental properties available but then won't return phone calls from people responding to those ads. What kind of an idiot company is this? If you're bored and have lots of time to waste, by all means, call AT Smith Property Management! I finally got in touch with someone else at the office (after calling them about 8 times during business hours, they can't answer the phone there, either) and they are not concerned at all about this issue. I will not deal with incompetent companies like this. If you want no response to your numerous phone calls and messages, this is the company for you!!! more

I really appreciate that you are always on top of things as far as coming in and changing the batteries (in Smoke & CO detectors) and just making sure that everything's taken care of around the surroundings of the building. The times that I've called, you've always sent sombody out to take care of things immediately and I appreciate that. I like Ruby. She has always been very, very efficient. Fake positive Reviews... Worst. Rental Company. Ever 6/17/2011

Look at all the positive reviews, all of the reviewers review the same places and give nothing but positive reviews. I was a renter and trust me, I am still feeling the pain even after moving out. I was promised my damage deposit over 2 months ago, and no amount of calling has helped. Ruby, the property manager never returns messages, they took forever to come out and fix things and then only fixed them half of the time. The sprinklers went out and the yard was dead before they fixed them. The owners were charged for repairs that they never fixed. I am totally upset with this company, stay far away. more

We rented a town house in Golden from this management company. Connie was our property manager. At move in, we did our check list of issues and things that needed to be fixed. Smoke detectors didnt work, fans in ceiling wouldnt work, one of the closet doors didnt work, the shower wasnt draining properly, and the back door would not lock etc. All were things that should have been done before move in! From there, it went down hill!!! So the fan had to be fixed because one of the blades was scotch taped on, so when it was turned on it went flying! Some could have been seriously hurt! The back door not locking at all, and thats was a pretty big issue. Because the part they needed was pricey, they made every excuse to not fix immediately. It took them 4 months to ""fix it"". The part was never ordered, they tried fixing it with glue. GLUE! I couldnt believe what they were trying to pull that lasted about 1 month then it stopped working again. I went another 5-6 months with no locking door. I was constantly calling Connie to get it fixed! She wouldnt answer, wouldnt return calls! It was terrible. Finally I said that I would report them for renting a property with no security/locking doors and no working fire alarms...then they started getting things done. They finally fixed the door and alarms, but they showed up without notifying me and was not there when they did the work! The guy gave a whole bag of raw hide bones to my dog. She was sick, throwing up, had the runs, and I had to take her to the vet it got so bad!!! I was furious!!! They called to let Connie know and again, never returned my calls. We got our carpets shampooed after about a year. That was when things got even worse. Connie assured us it was a non-smoking place, but it wasnt. From the neighbors I learned the owner did nothing but smoke in it. Our clothes smelled like smoke, our hair, sheets, carpets! terrible! It was disgusting! We had to had everything cleaned again at our expense. The dryer broke. Never was fixed by them. We paid out of our pockets to get it fixed. Also the water heater pilot went out. Luckily I had greater neighbors because I had NO hot water for almost 2 weeks!!! It took them that long to fix it. Overall all I would not trust them with my property nor would I recommended renting from them. They will not treat your property with respect or you as renters. I would especially not rent from Connie there, she was absolutely terrible! more
