I can't believe I'm returning to this place; it was on my 20 year S____ list. Someone else who's treating insists on going there. The service on the last visit was among the wor...

What's the buzz about? 7/22/2007

It annoys me when I read reviews of people saying that they waited a long time for their bar drinks. It's a wine restaurant. Wine goes good with food. They should just get rid of those bar carts. If you want to get drunk..go to the lounge next door. If they choose to take reservations for large parties, they should give that server a max of 3 tables so they can actually give good, attentive service. Most of their servers don't know what the wines taste like because Ibiza isn't going to spend money on letting them try them. Most of their wine talk is BS. The manager Shawn is ignorant. What on the menu, other than the Paella, (which is the worst I've had) is actually Spanish? There grade of meat is lower than select. The food is nothing special. The only thing I like is the homemade cake, which isn't even made in their home. The best part was the '96 Salon Champagne, but I could have had it for less. I was able to compare it to the '90 Salon that I had last year (but you wouldn't find a '90 or '88 at Ibiza). The wine prices aren't that much different from other restaurants. They get their Rombauer Chard for $19 and sell it for $48. Waugh Chard they get for $24 and sell for $51. Caymus Conundrum they get for $18 and sell for $36. Delectus Sacrashe they get for $44 and sell for $157. Plumpjack they get for $55 and sell for $360. Merry Edwards Pinot they get for $30 and sell for $85. I'd rather save the 100%-600% mark-ups and bring my own bottle to a restaurant with good food, have my chef prepare me a good meal to match my wine, pay more for a good dining experience or pay less for a good restaurant . You don't always have to spend more for good food, service, and wine. Will never return. Pros: Some Good Wine Cons: Everything Else more

Wine list is impressive, service is NOT 5/24/2007

I read all the reviews on city search about IBIZA before attending a friend's birthday dinner on a Wednesday night. The reviews were so mixed. I didn?t know what to think, but I definitely wanted to keep an open mind. Well let me tell you. The wine list- impressive! Food ? pretty good I guess. Service ? don?t expect too much. Our table of 8 was seated but we sat there for 30 minutes wondering who our waiter was. That was ridiculous. I use to be a waiter, so I know the general rule of thumb, greet your guest within the first minute or two after they have settled in. I asked what the house special was- never got an answer. My friend and I asked for a glass of white wine- instead they mistakenly gave us a bottle. I felt the waiter knew whatever type of service he gave us, he would still get at least his 15% gratituty (since we were a large party). I liked the food (peppercorn tuna was yummy) but I think I could have gotten the same food somewhere else with better service. Pros: wine list, nice ambience Cons: service more

good food - POOR service! 3/27/2007

We went with a party of 10 Friday night - had reservation - not seated for half hour after that - Pros: good menu - good drinks - Cons: poor service - no real bar - wait even with reservation more

Awesome wine list, exceptional food 1/12/2007

What can I say? Ibiza does a great job pleasing the palette. The wine list is a book, and a good one. Great list of reds, particularly Spanish. Bottle of medium priced wine, appetizer, and entrees for under $100 a couple, wow! I will return to this venue. I definitely recommend making reservations and even specifying what part of the restaurant you prefer. I had to be slightly assertive with the hostess to be moved from being seated in the doorway. Waitstaff here is friendly and knowledgable. Enjoy! Pros: wine list, food more

a pricey romantic dinner for 2 11/20/2006

i must admit, i was seduced by the restaurant's name, ibiza ... i've always wanted to travel to that place. this trendy restaurant is huge, but maybe a little too big to have a romantic dinner for 2 ... or for a cozy, laid-back dining experience for that matter. the wall full of wine bottles was indeed an impressive site, though. our waiter was friendly and accomodated our every whim, continually checking back with us every so often. the food was great, but i could've gotten better quality food for the same price elsewhere. i'll probably won't come back to this place ... it was a little too ""yuppie"" and trendy for my preference.* Pros: food Cons: too big more

Great Shrimp/Crab Appetizer 11/13/2006

Love the pizzas and shrimp/crab appetizer. Keep it up, we appreciate your food! Diningroom lighting is just right for a date night. Pros: Nice Place Cons: Parking more

It's still good 10/29/2006

I've been dining at Ibiza since they opened and it continues to be a trust worthy resturant for get togethers and celebrations. The food is never dissapointing, the service is attentive and where else in town will they bring you cotton candy on your birthday (except for their new resturant, Catalan). They only thing that would make me like this resturant better is if they had a bar area instead of a bar cart. It's nice to have a place to wait for your table. more

Enjoyable Every Time 9/19/2006

Quite simply: This is a really enjoyable restaurant. We have eaten here on three occasions - and each time was a real delight (one was a special birthday). The service is attentive - the wait staff well trained. All of the food has a slightly different twist than you will find in most establishments; is very tasty and well prepared. Excellent wine list as well as by the glass selections. Entrees have always been excellent - but appetizers are really special treats! Pros: Excellent Food with a "Different" Twist, Solid Service, Cozy with a Date more

Best Wine List in the city- other restaurants should take a hint from Ibiza on wine prices 8/28/2006

This is one of our favorites spots for Saturday night dining. The food is exceptional, from the standard menu items to the daily specials, Chef owner Chareles Clark shows creativity and style in his preparations. The waiters are all well schooled on the extensive wine selection and parings with food. Pros: Wine list, service, food quality Cons: Noise level can be high when it gets busy more

Best beef tenderloin EVER! 8/2/2006

I've been on three different occasions - twice for dinner, and once for lunch. Twice I've had the beef tenderloin in red wine demi glaze, and once broiled fish. Best beef I've ever had, and I'm typically not a tenderloin fan because usually it doesn't have much flavor. Theirs is the exception. Their risotto is fantastic, too. The three times I've been I've had fantastic food, and wonderful service. And their wine list is incredibly affordable! Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: There isn't a sit-down bar, but you're seated promptly so no problem more

mediocre food, inattentive service, though excellent wine list 7/8/2006

Mediocre. Went with very high expectations, and left disappointed. Though we made a reservation, we were seated 20 minutes late, though I saw the hostess seat a couple at a 4-top (where we should have been). Then, we had to ASK for menus and a wine list after we were seated. Finally, our waiter's ""helper"" came to take our order. We ordered a bottle of white, which was left sitting out, unchilled, on the table. For a restaurant that prides itself on its wine selection, this was shoddy, at best. Pros: excellent wine list Cons: mediocre food across the board, very poor service more

Great Food Exceptional Staff!! 5/25/2006

My boyfriend and I dined at Ibiza on 05/25/06 and were thoroughly impressed when we left the restaurant. Because, we are both young we dont usually receive good service at restaurants. However, from the moment we sat down, our waiter Reynard made us feel more than comfortable, and even though he had several other tables, he made it seem as if we were his only one. With his mix of New Orleans charm and his Texas hospitality, he made dining at Ibiza truly an enjoyable experience. To anyone who dines at this restaurant you would be truly lucky to have him as your waiter. The food was excellent, the wine prices were amazing, and the atmosphere was very hip. All in all I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a great dinner experience. more

MY FAVORITE!! 5/8/2006

THis is the greatest place in Houston. My friends and I are here all the time and would be lost without this great food!! Keep up the great work! more

Evil Owners 2/22/2006

Shockingly abhorrent behavior by Owner! Two of our party selected the ribeye steak medium rare; the steaks were brought one medium-rare and one was well done. All hell broke loose when the steak was sent away; the owner and chef assaulted the table with a plate of meat sliced open, and in a raised tone of voice, argued with our friend ending with a threat to kick him out. In shock, I asked the Chef: ""what did you say?"" to which he replied ""I'll kick you all out of here"". Stomachs now clenched, forks were dropped and we gladly removed ourselves from a situation that can only be described as pure hatred pouring out of this ugly chef. Snooty, used by other reviewers, is only the tip of the iceberg for the evil witnessed not just by us but everyone in the restaurant. Unbelievably bad hospitality and no appology! Pros: Tables always open, Free bad attitude Cons: Chef with ugly side, Rude, inhospitable, Good times soured more

bleh... 2/19/2006

Food wasn't great for the price you pay. My boyfriend took me here on a date and we both left with 95% of our food in the to go boxes and went home to recook it. Waiter didn't even ask us if we thought everything was ok. One thing is that it's a nice restaurant, what a shame it's just looks... more

Exceptional! 2/9/2006

I have made it a point to visit most every noted Restaurant in HOuston and IBIZA, overall, is the best in every way. The owners, Grant Cooper and Charles Clark, make it a point to get to know their customers which puts this place over the top. From the excellent Valet, wine list, original menu, attentive staff to the dessert. The embiance is perfect for any occassion. I highly recommend IBIZA for a first date, anniversary, or for just a simply nice dinner. Best choice you will ever make! Pros: wine prices, food, embiance Cons: NONE!!!! more

My favorite 1/8/2006

Ibiza is by far my favorite restaurant. Chef Charles Clark is the most talented chef in Houston as well as the most gracious host. For an appetizer, try the peppercorn crusted tuna or the grilled shrimp with crabmeat cornbread. For an entree, my favorite is the venison chop. Best wine list in town, complete with very reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable -- they always give excellent wine recommendations -- they are not on a mission to sell the most expensive bottle. more

Outstanding 1/6/2006

Chef Clark is outstanding. Great food and service. He is creative, innovative and doing a wonderful job. Can't wait to visit again and again. Highly recommend! Pros: Great service, Great selection, The scene! Cons: no bar seating more

Overpriced - average food & service 9/17/2005

Food is average at best. Waiter was very unprofessional. Prices are ridiculous for the quality of food and service. Positive thing: wine list. Pros: wine list Cons: average food, parking, bad service more

Great Food 8/15/2005

We had the pleasure of dining at this beautiful restaurant for Father's Day and it was so wonderful!! My husband had the lobster bisque and the shrimp stuffed with cornbread and, I had a wonderful steak and the delicious sides. And, the ice cream desert was so great, I can taste it now. We will be celelebrating our 33rd Anniversary in Sept. and, we will be going back, we can't wait to try the cotton candy that they are famous for. Pros: food , atmosphere, service Cons: na, na, na more
