A truely WONDERFUL experience 3/19/2009

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Ibiza a couple of weeks ago while dining out with my family for my mothers birthday. Our servers name was eric, and although an intimidating figure, he truley provided us with a wonderful dining experience. He provided an excellent choice of wine, which was significantly lower than we were used to paying, and his explanations and reccomendations for the food were on point and to the tee. He couldnt have been more sweet or sarcastic for that matter in taking care of us. I am a goat cheese fiend and the Local goat cheese appetizer and morrocan shrimp were to die for. So much special attention was paid to my mother who was not optomistic about turning a year older, it really made her night. I must say it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have had as a family in a long time and we will be back for sure. Pros: Service, wine, and atmosphere Cons: overly crowded more

A very strange service experience... 10/19/2008

Ibiza used to be one of my favorite places in Houston, but on a recent Thursday night, it was not up to its usual standards. It was a nice Thursday evening, so I was looking foward to sitting on the patio with a family member. They did their usual asking if you have a reservation, but then seating you immediately. We had an enjoyable meal, but nothing about either of our dishes was terribly exciting. Then, when we were almost finished a different server came to our table to let us know that our server had left because he was ill and she would be taking care of us. I was not sure I wanted to know that the person serving my meal was sick, but then he came back and offered to box up our leftovers - I didn't take anything home (although I wanted to). Then, when he started to walk away the two servers had a conversation right next to our table with her telling him he needed to go home. I understand that people get sick and still come to work, but there had to be a better and more private way to handle this. I'll may go to Ibiza again, but only if someone else suggests it. more

fantastic! 10/2/2008

The food is outstanding! The service is impecable. I'm very particular about how my food is prepared and I could not have thought of a better prep. The wine selection is fabulous and i could not imagine a better atmosphere! Pros: very fresh and service great Cons: fairly expensive appetizers more

Really disappointing! 8/30/2008

Went back for a special occasion after two good meals here. Food was awful this time- really bad. Don't mind paying a lot for good food- but this was NOT. The crowd has gotten way too cheesy too. Guys: wear your dragon shirts and frost your hair tips!! more

Best wine prices in town 8/13/2008

After dining at their sister restaurant the previous week, we decided to give Ibiza a try for my mother's birthday. Boy were we not disappointed. Our waiter Wes was outstanding and gave excellent recommendations not only on the food but also on the wine list as well. Speaking of the wine list, wow! What else can be said? The prices are low, and they are amazing VALUES!!! I was shocked at seeing bottles I'm used to paying 60 or 70 dollars for listed at 45. The whole grilled shrimp with crab cornbread appetizer was fantastic. The vermillion snapper special and the braised lamb shank w/ spanish mint oil were fantastic dishes. But the highlight of the meal was the bread pudding. I may be returning just to have that again. Pros: Wine List, Food, Service Cons: A little loud more

Love this place! 7/23/2008

I go here every year for my birthday! The food is pricey, but well worth it. My favorites are : scallops, blue cheese tomato, and the creme brulee (amazing!) Great ambiance and the servers are fantastic. more

a series of near misses 6/14/2008

The wine was good and reasonably priced, but the food was on the lower side of middling. We tried appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and everything missed. Sometimes it missed only by a little, but this was nothing even resembling a $155 meal. Although I am perpetually disappointed by the Houston food scene, this place isn't worth another visit, even by local standards. Pros: wine Cons: everything else more

people too drunk to notice how bad food is 6/8/2008

The place is ok , service fair , but food is really lousy from bread - desert . When people drink too much and accept mediocre food this is the result . Who wants lamb shank swimming in a dish of liquid over spicy mashed potatoes .Grossest potatoes ever . If you like good food don't go to Ibiza - Go to the real Ibiza in spain . more

Best value wine list in Texas, terrific food and looks great too! 5/15/2008

I took 3 business associates here for a Tuesday night dinner. We had reservations and were seated promptly (inside). All of us ordered appetizers and entrees, some also got salads and some got dessert wines. We had some really excellent Ridge Chardonnay that most restaurants wouldn't even carry, let alone sell at the low price that this place does. Their classic Wedge salad with Green Goddess dressing was terrific. In fact, everyone enjoyed their food tremendously. I went to Ibiza many years ago when I lived in H-town. This meal is making me think about moving back! Highly recommended. Pros: Unbelieveable wine selection & prices, cool decor, excellent food Cons: Poor acoustics more

Epicurean Perfection 3/18/2008

This place is fabulous. I love the Moroccan grilled shrimp with goat cheese and the calamari. It has an extensive wine list, and the desserts are to die for. The atmoshphere is fun yet sophisticated and I highly recommended it. more

Avoid Saturdays and pleeease upgrade bouncer to v.2008 3/5/2008

I love Ibiza, the restaurant, and was looking forward to visiting their bar. I was not disappointed and came several times during the week. My rating is on ""highly recommended"" for the weekdays and ""average"" on weekends. During the week the ambiance is quite upscale, very friendly, your mid 30's international crowd. Come the weekend and the Saturns from Sugar Land line up and you get the picture of what comes out. The bouncer is somehow -huh let's say ""special"" to remain PC- as he declined me the entrance taking my philip stark shoes for tennis shoes.... It was a first for me being refused an entrance, so I did not insist, kind of stunned and proud at the same time of the fact I had been rejected because of my stark shoes. I admit I am gloating telling the story whenever I can, but may I recommend Ibiza to change its bouncer quickly or give him a crash course in contemporary fashion. At the end, this is not Sherlock's, this is Ibiza ! Pros: One of the nicest bar mid week in Houston Cons: Weekends and their suburb throngs (I want a curfew at the beltway !!!) more

reat place to enjoy a meal 2/17/2008

I have been to Ibiza on a number of occassions; have always had great service and food. The wine selection and prices are some of the best in Houston. We ate there with friends last night and as always the service and food were top notch. Unfortunately, it was really noisy and hard to hear others at your table. Would highly recommend Ibiza to anyone... But go early if want to avoid the noise. Pros: Wine selection, Food, Service, and did I say the Wine prices? Cons: Noisy more

Watch your tip!! 2/16/2008

My boyfriend and I went to Ibiza on Valentine's Day with another couple. We had reservations for 8:30, but it was after 9:00 before we were seated. Considering Valentine's Day is one of the busiest holidays for dining out, this was forgivable, if not inconvenient. (There is a lounge next door where we were able to grab a cocktail.) The meal itself was excellent! The crab bisque is amazing!! But then it came time to pay the bill. We split the tab with the other couple dining with us. Shortly after, an assistant manager came to our table to ask us if our service and meal were okay. We explained that the evening had been lovely. She then proceeded to ask us if our service and meal were good why had we only tipped the waiter 12%. We had intended to (and thought we had) leave the waiter more. The assistant manager then flopped the bill in front of us and said again that it was only 12%. Though it was an honest mistake on our part, we were appalled that we were chided for our tip (which on a $250 tab was not small even at 12%) and basically bullied into giving more! We eventally spoke to the manager who offered us no real apology for his assistant's rude behavior. I will NOT being going back!! Pros: Food Cons: Service more

RUDE OWNERS & WAITSTAFF! 1/2/2008

Ibiza USED to be one of my fav spots in Houston which is why I chose to celebrate my bday here with a group of friends on 12/21/07. Everything was going great- wine, martinis, good company...until the appetizers came. The mussels (which are usually a fav) smelled very rancid...bad to the point we couldn't enjoy our other apps so we sent them back. Shortly after a very rude ""owner"" came to our table and spoke to us in a very abrupt, condensending manner, snatched my martini away as if the alcohol was to blame (it was my first cocktail of the night) and didn't bring me a fresh drink back or offer another app or an apology. We apologized to the waiter who told us next time we shouldn't order items we don't like. To top it off every time the waiter would walk by our table he would use extreme profanity under his breath and called my friend obscene names 4 different times. When we confronted the situation we were verbally attacked by the owners & waitstaff, kicked out (before our less than average entrees were even finished being eaten) and continued to be yelled at as we reluctantly paid our tab and then called names as we were waiting for the valet to bring our vehicles. Never in my life have I experienced such rude, immature behavior from business owners...we will never go back to Ibiza, The Lounge or Catalan. These establishments lost 12 faithful patrons that evening...we have spread our incident to all we know who put this restaurant on a pedestal like we all used to. Such a shame.... more

Overall Wonderful, consistantly 11/13/2007

I enjoy Ibiza and can always count on a great meal. Cheese plate and wine selections are plentiful. The wine selection is also well priced. I usually enjoy their steak or a seafood dish and have never been disappointed. The chocolate bread pudding is amazing. the service is ok, but they all seem to know their wine menu, for the most part. Large parties that expect great service are idiots, bringing out food for 12+ ppl should just get caterer or reserve a private room somewhere. the lighting is dim which i like and it is loud, but i wouldnt want to fall asleep. good place for a first date and the lounge next door is beautiful. Pros: Wine List and Ambience Cons: Parking more

Yuck 11/10/2007

Ibiza's food this past Friday night was terrible. The crab bisque is supposed to be a speciality? It was so salty I couldn't eat more than one bite. The chef really needs to taste the soup before it leaves the kitchen. If it's possible, however, I think the beef tenderloin entree was worse. While the steak was barely cooked despite being ordered medium rare, the potato was burnt and the vegetables were overdone as well. Finally, the cookie plate was largely what you'd expect from a plastic carton at Kroger. I have to say the crab cake appetizer was very good. But it was the lone bright spot in a seriously disappointing evening. Pros: service was fine, definitely a see and be seen vibe if that's what you're looking for Cons: horrible food, too loud to hold a conversation more

Bad Service, but good food 11/1/2007

We dined in Ibiza on an evening when the weather was nice and not too chilly. So we couldn't quite decide if we should take advantage of the outdoor dining or stay inside. We decided to dine inside and luckily we ended up by the window near the entry to the outdoor dining area. The place was dimly lit, having a sensual, earthy atmosphere. The waiter recommended the crab bisque which was heavenly. The entrees were good, but what I really liked was the mocha bread pudding and the tres leches cake - wow! Bread pudding is not even one of my favorites to begin with. I highly recommend those two desserts. The place is pricey, yet not over-the-top ridiculous. The only thing lacking was the service. We got seated right away, but our waiter could have been more attentive.... actually, a lot more. And he was not at all professional. He seemed to be more fit to serve at a fast-food counter.... actually, he should not be in the service industry at all. I wish I remembered his name so he could get a schooing from the owner. But oh well, I would still go back, even if to get the bread pudding to go. Pros: ambience Cons: service more

Great Wine List so so Food 8/30/2007

I have to say our waiter Wes was fabulous and very knowledgeable about wine. I went with my mom bestfriend and her mom. The restaurant was quite empty although it was bad weather and a week night. How you can screw up a wedge salad I'm not sure, but they did it. The dressing was very odd. The halibut special was bland and our dessert ""The Daisy"" was BORING. Giving credit to Wes he did reccommend the Bread Pudding but not being a fan we opted for the daisy. Big mistake. The platting was lovely but I would call two cookies ontop of another and bad sorbet anything to write home about. Maybe it was just an off night but I have to tell you I wont be returning. more

Consistently Great 8/11/2007

Had dinner at Ibiza this past tuesday night and it truly amazes me how those guys are always on point. Love the piquillo peppers and the shrimp dish. Service was great, food was great and i have always loved thier wine list. It is a testament to the guys that run this place, to be that good all the time. They are the new long term standard for houston restaurants. more
