Best

Pros: Excellent Carrot Cake, Chocolate Wedges, and Good Coffee.Cons: Croissants are average, and I've never seen an almond croissant...

Worst

I agree with the negative press about how horrible the service is at Hoffman's these days. While the pastries are still one of the best around the Northwest, I've recently observ...

What a disaster....Never use them again 1/4/2006

I have to say that after having hoffmans highly recommended and making the trip from seattle to order a cake for a very special event that I will NEVER patronize or recommend this place to anyone.........the cake we ordered was a disaster the manager or ""head baker"" or whatever she was couldn't have been less helpful or more rude when we came in to talk to her about the way our 130.00 cake turned out. What a nightmare no wonder their customers are leaving in droves........if you want a bottom level cake and Service that is beyond horrible go ahead and use them, I will spread the word so others can avoid the ruined occasion that we had. How this place survives is a mystery. more

A great dissapointment 1/4/2006

I'm very glad that ""redhott"" was pleased with her wedding cake order from Hoffman's. I have a difficult time, though, understanding how she can consider a bride and groom not having THEIR cake on THEIR wedding day a ""minute issue"". Or, others experiencing rude behavior and poor customer service. This seems to be developing into a pattern - not getting a quality product; not getting what was ordered and expected; not getting the order AT ALL; an inaccesible manager and absentee owner; different stories from the manager and employess; no refunds; no apologies; and many excuses. As a 13-year customer, I recently ordered a cake for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and experienced much of the above. Many friends of mine, and I, will no longer go to Hoffman's. We sincerely regret this decision, as Hoffman's has been an institution in Kirkland, but our trust and confidence are gone. Pros: Excellent location Cons: Poor management, Poor customer service, High quality has dimi more

More recent observations 1/2/2006

The previous reviews seem outdated to me. Those who complained in the past were probably justified at the time, but Hoffman's has undergone major changes. We recently had a great experience. The quality of their product remains excellent - reminiscent of the original owner's attention to quality. Why? the former Head Baker returned and I think she's now in charge after a string of rude/poor management. All I know is the rude woman who was in charge before is gone. My daughter had her wedding cake made by Hoffman's this past fall (October, 2005) and we can't say enough about their attention to detail, and above all their talent to make what was agreed by everyone to be the best-tasting wedding cake we'd ever eaten. ALL of our guests would recommend Hoffmans' to any future brides out there, (and really, any other cakes too) - we sure do. thanks. more

NO WONDER THEY ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS 12/12/2005

This place has completely gone downhill.................yet another manager has left and this last one was a good one, I had to deal with a ""head Baker"" who was possibly the rudest person ever, after dealing with her I chose not to have them do an anniversary cake for me nor will I ever patronize the place again, rumor has it they will be gone after christmas and with the service level and product quality level the way it is I don't doubt it............don't waste your time with these folks it's not worth the level of frustration you will encounter. more

Best Cakes in town..........Nice folks too 11/11/2005

In todays world it is sad that the only comment people have to share are negative. I need to publicly defend hoffmans name against the claims made by skasonia, I was a guest at her wedding and the cake was fantastic....she ordered an extra large cake so that we could all have a taste and it was the best, I implore the public not to take and emotional brides claims to heart. I personally have been a new customer to Hoffmans and find both the customer service and the products out of this world... Please give this place a try you won't be dissapointed!! Pros: service, product, atmosphere Cons: small dining area more

Hoffmans is still the greatest 11/3/2005

I see that Hoffmans has received some negative press and for my opinion it seems to be unjustified. I recently was married and ordered a 1500.00 wedding cake from them. The cake was beautiful and several of my guests stated it was the best tasting wedding cake they have ever had. I have been a long time customer of Hoffmans even before I purchased my wedding cake from them.........the new managment is fantastic the bad seeds that used to work there are long gone and one of the orginal bakers is back so you know the product is out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People who waste their time complaining about minute issues that can happen in a from scratch bakery need to just get over it........EVERYONE should try this bakery if not for a wedding then for a pastry, cup of coffee or lunch the place was packed today, standing room only more

Wedding Cake Scammers! 10/24/2005

we ordered a lovely wedding cake with white chocolate frosting - we wanted people to love our cake - turns out the frosting was NOT white chocolate as ordered but plain old boring tasteless buttercream - we were never informed we couldnt have that pick - when I went in to complain they didnt care - they would not refund our money - nor did they apologize - they were rude and nasty - if you order something and it isnt right then they should make it right - they could refund our money since we got a cake we DID NOT ORDER. I would NEVER go there again - they were mean and nasty and should not be allowed to even be in business. Future brides beware - DONT ORDER HOFFMAN""S WEDDING CAKES!!!!!!! Cons: Rude, Bad service, Nasty more

Has gone completely downhill 10/18/2005

Hoffman's used to be the best bakery on the Eastside until the changes in management. While the cakes are still good, the service is beyond horrible. I refuse to go in any more because I am so angry by the time I leave. It is honestly better to just avoid the place, which is a shame. I ordered several cakes for my daughter's first birthday party and the princess torte had a huge gash in the side. When I asked if it could be repaired, the lady behind the counter pretended like she didn't see it. It was the size of the Grand Canyon. This is the same lady who is rude every time I enter, so I'm done with the joint (as are all my friends and co-workers). I'll find another bakery that appreciates my business. Cons: Worst service ever, Rude employee, Don't value customers more

Poor Customer Service 10/2/2005

I thought I was the only one who received poor customer service so I didn't say anything. In April I emailed inquiring about a specific cake for my sister-in-law's birthday and delivery options. I specifically mentioned in the email not to contact me by phone because at that time I was living with my brother and sister-in-law and the cake was a surprise. I never received a response by email in the time they said it would take for them to respond. Until a WEEK LATER they CALLED my sister-in-law took the call. Totally ruined my surprise and when I did call back the woman on the phone was extremely RUDE and couldn't even answer my questions. After they ruined my surprise and were nasty to me I decided ordering from them would not be a good idea. Now I'm glad I didn't order from them. more

bad management 7/6/2005

this place has changed management so many times in the past few years its unbelievable. But they still have all of the articles on their wall about how great the bakery ""used"" to be?? What happened?? The service is lousy, the baked goods are burnt half the time! I was just in on the fourth of july and as I was looking at the case to get a scone the woman working told the other co-worker ""I don't think we should be open on the fourth of july""....customer service??? ever heard of it?? more

Don't use them for Wedding cakes 6/19/2005

We held a dessert reception at our wedding and was so pleased to find a bakery that was so higly recomended. We ordered our wedding cake and several other desserts to be delivered to our wedding. On our wedding day we verified everything yet it didn't show up at the wedding. Not only did it not show up but they made several bad excuses (ran out of gas and got lost) yet we never received a phone call from them and were unable to reach them at the store. They aren't refunding the money we paid and were as apologetic as 7-11 worker would be if they were out of candy bars. DO NOT USE HOFFMANS IF YOU WANT SERVICE OR YOUR ORDER. Pros: Good cakes Cons: Didn't deliver order, Poor cust. Service more

Puget Sounds' Best Bakery and Sandwich Shop! 2/12/2005

It is rare to find a quality bakery in the Seattle area. Hoffman's is an exceptional find. While they are well known for their quality cakes and other baked goods, they are less well known for their outstanding sandwiches and soups. Although their choices for sandwiches are limited (usually just turkey, ham, and roast beef plus a special), what they do serve are by far better than any other sandwich provider on the Eastside! Their sandwich meats are top quality and freshly sliced (try the roast beef!). There are usually two homemade soup choices each day - one being vegetarian - and they are always excellent. The only negative about Hoffman's is the limited seating. It can be difficult sometimes to get a table as there is only a small amount of seating. It is usually easier during the warmer months as there is also some outside seating. Pros: Excellent baked goods, Excellent lunches, Friendly staff Cons: Limited seating more

Great pastries! 8/5/2002

Hoffman's Bakery in the Parkplace Shopping Center in Kirkland is a wonderful place to get pastries. My wife and I live in downtown Kirkland, and we go to Hoffman's at least once a week. The cinnamon rolls and danish are great! Pros: Great pastries, Easy to find, Good coffee Cons: A little crowded more
