Editorial review from Citysearch 7/29/2012

I had breakfast on 7/13/12 with a friend who was treating me to a birthday brunch. She had made reservations for 10:00 a.m. When we arrived the place was packed! We were promptly shown to our table by the hostess and our waitress came by, introduced herself, asked for our beverage wishes and told us about the specials. Upon returning with our coffee and juice, my friend ordered the delicious special and I ordered the bison eggs benedict but with plain hollandaise sauce instead of the tangerine-jalapeño sauce that the item comes with on the menu. The meal was delicious and while crowded, the food and service explained why there was such a crowd. There was a singer with guitar on the stage which added to the overall noise, but it was good singing and I wouldn't complain about that. If it's conversation you're looking for, it can be done, but just be prepared to compete against a lot of other conversations and live music (or recorded music when the singer is taking a break)! The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the decor was fabulous. more

Beautiful decor and ambiance, I love the gonzo art of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson that adorns the walls. The food is delicious, just don't go too late on a weekday or you will be told that you may only order from the appetizer menu..even though they were to be open for at least 3 more hours. Live music often, I like to come here for breakfast/brunch and for music on Wednesday nights. more

Inconsistence freezing over Hells Kitchen 2/28/2011

Loved Hell's kitchen before the move, not sure what happened. Use to go once a week for the coffee and pecan rolls alone. My last four visits; waiting 30+ minutes past the said wait time while tables sat empty and dirty, having a staff that seemed to care less and less, cold Mahnomin porridge, semi raw blacken chicken sandwich, well done rib eye that had been order rare, and shrimp that smelled as if they had turned a day prior that were sent back only to have the server never return, I just can't see spending the money. more

Peanut Butter is a Must 12/9/2010

My wife and I were in Minneapolis visiting her parents and Hell's Kitchen was located right by our hotel. My wife watches the show and insisted that we come here, however, I don't think there is any connection with the two. I really liked the restaurant right away. The atmosphere was upbeat and they were playing an old black and white movie on a big screen. My wife and I both ordered breakfast. My wife ordered the mahnomin porridge, which she really enjoyed and I ordered the bison benedict which was great. We also shared an order of the sausage bread to try with their homemade peanut butter, jam and marmalade. The bread was different but very good and peanut butter was awesome (my wife insisted on buying a jar before we left). We also shared an order of the macaroni and cheese, which was also very good. Both the food and service were great, we will definitely return. more

Hell is awesome! 7/11/2010

Went to Hell's Kitchen for the very first time last night (July 10, 2010) to see the band Sum of All...the service was outstanding, very friendly and fast, the food was delicious! and Sum of All was kick ass! The location was easy to find and parking was easy as well, and that is saying A LOT for being downtown Minneapolis! I look forward to going back to Hell's Kitchen! Pros: awesome service, awesome food and awesome bands more

A HELL of a night!! 7/11/2010

First time we have been out on a ""date night"" in a long time and had an awesome time. All of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food was great, great drinks, and prompt service. Thanks Jenny for being so courteous and answering all our questions. Sum Of All was outstanding!!!! Hope they will be back in Hell's Kitchen again. Couldn't ask for a better night. Pros: Great service,Good food, good drinks, great entertainment Cons: if there was any I didn't see or experience them. more

Service sucks 12/14/2009

This place is so overrated. I have given Hell's Kitchen several chances and each time am sorely disappointed. I'll never go back- Rossi's was so much better! Pros: Decent atmosphere Cons: Service more

great food! crappy service:( 11/9/2009

love the place, amazing location!\r too bad the service was bad, we had to wait forever for the hot chocolate, and it wasnt even busy, the restroom wast that clean either, would come back to give them another chance, just for that lil' slice of heaven! Pros: yummy food! love the brakefast Cons: slow and rude service more

Ahh hell! 8/3/2009

I completely agree with the editorial review....so for the bulk of what I think, please see and look for insider tip. \r \r I will however like to comment on my food...the eggs and black beans w/ wallop of salsa. First off, a scoop (they call it a wallop) of salsa or sour cream is $1ea +$1.35 for cheese. My eggs with black beans, which are two of the cheapest foods on the face of the earth with ""wallops"" and cheese cost $8.60...cooked well, but the salsa was sweet and didn’t go well with the beans or eggs. Also, the multigrain bread was good and I could tell it was high quality. \r \r Atmosphere is cool, but i don't think it really goes well for a group of hungry guys trying to get their crush on after a long night out on the town. I felt like it would've been better if I was a women with a pair of Lisa Loeb glasses on with a book in my hand and an angry look on my face. \r \r Try this place out if you have plenty of time as service was kinda slow. Might be better place for dinner based on the quality of the menu.\r \r 3 stars just b/c I went for breakfast. Based on the quality of food, if I was there for lunch or dinner, it would probably be a 4. \r Pros: Editorial Review hits the nail on the head...nice server Cons: Pricey (good ingredients though) more

couldnt pay me to go eat there again 7/1/2009

I chose Hells Kitchen for a bacholerette dinner for my sister and her friends after much research, I took a small group of ladies under the age of 21 to this establishment for a nice dinner, but was very very very unhappy from the moment we walked in to the time we left. Our server messed up our orders, the time to even order was almost 40 minutes, he was very rude and did not come back to check on us like he should have instead he was at the bar chatting it up with friends and other staff, i made reservations and we came on a thursay night, it wasn't busy, therfore i didnt understand the poor service. Most of our food was cold, but didnt want to bother the server since he rarely showed up and it took way to long to order and recieve our food the first time, after all this the night was farther ruined with a man begging for money at the main door and the length for our dinner service cut into the limo time i had set up for my sister to tour the town. We were very well behaved with manners but were not treated that way at all. Was a big disapointment for all of us, we were all excited to see what Hells Kitchen had to offer us.\r \r \r i even wrote to the owner of Hell's kitchen, i did get one response back wanting some more details of my trip to Hell's kitchen, after that i have not heard back, it has almost been a month =( Pros: nothing Cons: poor service, cold food, long wait, unhelpfull owner more

Not what we expected 5/4/2009

I went out for a late night dinner and although it was close to their close, they were happy to take us in and the server was very nice. However, after ordering the $16 burger, the fries looked like McDonalds, but tasted worst and were luke warm. The burger didn't taste like anything special either, so if you are at all money-conscience, I would not suggest going there because after the $60 tab, I was left pretty much regretting my decision. Pros: Cool art on the walls and atmosphere Cons: The high price for ordinary food more

good food and good location dont outweigh the bad service 3/23/2009

I was very excited for the new hells kitchen to open downtown. I love the large space they have and food. It is also right next to my work and was excited to have a new after work spot to hang w the rest of my coworkers. Sadly I was extremely offended by the service we recieved and refuse to go back. On more than one occasion we recieved terrible attitude and service. First occasion I asked the bartender about the wine list and a recommendation. He said he had no idea and had no knowledge about any of them. Ok fine. Next time we go in and theres a diff bartender who looks like hes 18. We ask for a food menue and a drink which he brings. He then goes to the other side of the bar to talk to his friends who are the only other people there and to do shots with them. He ignores us for over 15 minutes. When get his attention and try to order food he announces that ""the kitchen just closed like a minute ago."" Well that wouldve been nice to know when you gave us the food menues that we asked for 20 minutes ago... Not to mention the menue and sign say the kitchen hours which advertise the kitchen should be open in the afternoon....so we ask for the bill and when we need change he says that he just counted his drawer so he cant give us change. We ask what were supposed to do then and he suggests that we walk down the hall to the other side of the restaurant where there is supposed to be another bar and that the bartender over there may have change that is if he hasnt counted his drawer yet either. really? has this person ever served before? Pros: food and venue Cons: bad service more

Be assertive and ready to wait 3/22/2009

We arrived unaware of the necessity to get a reservation. One of the three hostesses took our name and told us it would be about 45 minnutes. We sat down at the bar prepared to patiently wait for a table. We were sitting at the bar for 10 minnutes before we asked a passing barback for a drink. In that first ten minnutes I scanned the restaurant to check it out as this was a new place to me only to notice that there were 6 empty tables in the room I was in (Ironic considering the 45 min. wait) The bartender was busy making drinks for the servers and on occasion would look around but unfortunately for the patrons she would stare over the top of the heads of the people sitting at the bar at god knows what. After I finnished my bloody mary I sat waiting another 15 min. until our pager went off without being offered another drink.\r We were sat by one of the three hostesses leaving two behind to hold down the front door. Our server showed up several minnutes after being seated to ask if we wanted something to drink we both ordered went for the bottomless cup of coffee which I was able to find the bottom of twice. He failed to notice that our menus were closed which is a strong indication that people know what they want to eat. 20 minnutes after being seated our server decided to take our order. We had the Toasted sausage bread, Huevos rancheros, and Crab cake with poached egg and holindase. The food was excellent and came out in a flash after we ordered it (good to know the kitchen staff is good at their job) my only beef with the food is that the plate with the crab cake wasn't really full could have thrown another piece of toast or some more fruit to fill it up. Aside from that the food was delicious. As we were finnishing my girlfriend asked for a box for her remains only to have our server drop one off then disappear for 15 minnutes before we saw him again to ask for a check which resulted in another 10 minnute wait for him to show up with it and then disappear for another 10 minnutes to run the tab. By the time we left the restaurant was about half empty and there were two groops of people at the front door waiting to be seated by the three hostesses. (F'ing rediculus) \r Note: If you are going to claim to have a bottomless cup of coffee, THEN KEEP IT COMING! The service was amature at best and absolute BS as far as I am concerned and if it wern't for the food I would have given this review 1 star. Nedless to say the visit will not be folowed up again as it was just too frustrating to sit through again. Pros: Food Tastes good Cons: Staff is not alert or eager to work more

Suddenly snooty-reservation required 3/10/2009

brunch on Sunday packed and we were informed by the hostess of a 2 hour wait and to make a red next time. My thumbs up for the old place is a thumbs down for the new. We actually heard the hostess snicker at the family in front of us and snidely whisper to the other hostess that the lady should have made her reservation 4 days in advance. We will not return. We happily enjoyed mannys brunch instead. more

Mixed feelings... 2/1/2009

My husband and our 17 month-old came in for breakfast on my birthday and were quoted a 15 minute wait time (we also called ahead and were told 15 minutes). That's really our maximum because our toddler gets antsy, as all toddlers do. After 30+ minutes we had to leave, with our daughter fussy and me the pregnant starving birthday girl disappointed at their inaccuracy. I was a hostess/server for 5 years and never did this, especially to a family with small children. While I appreciate that the wait time is much less than it use to be, they are inaccurate with the quoting of time. Also, the address listed here on citysearch is their old address, so we drove around confused. Guess I will never know how good the food supposedly is.... Pros: Unique decor Cons: Not kid-friendly, parking difficult more

Hell yes! 1/31/2009

I was online searching for new restaurants to go to and Hell's Kitchen came up here. It was seriously amazing. I've seen a few bad reviews about service so I was a little leary about that, but I honestly dont know what any of those people were talking about. Our server was smiley and upbeat, and happily answered all of our annoying questions! We made reservations for a Friday night (which was a great idea because they were pretty busy), our food came out in 15 minutes piping hot which was delivered by one of their food runners who greeted us with a big smile and made sure we had everything that we needed. Food was more than we anticipated, service was great, atmosphere was unique and fun, prices were definitely reasonable. I will definitely be back, and I would highly recommend it. Pros: pretty much everything Cons: they spoiled me more

I'd live in hell for the rest of my life if possible. 1/29/2009

The best breakfast, hands down! OMG!! I always get the hot chocolate, carmel pecan roll, delish bread for the amazing peanut butter and then the corned beef hash! Then, I get hot chocolate mix and peanut butter to go. They sell a bunch of the products which make fun holiday gifts. I think the coffee 'restores virginity.' The new location's ambience is fantastic, gothic, scary but the fireplace room is fairly subdued and sophisticated. Bathrooms are a trip. I do not like the parking though. Pros: peanut butter, hot chocolate, carmel pecan roll, bison sausage, food, ambience Cons: long waits, parking restaurants more
