A Chicago landmark and must try if you haven't. Great Italian dishes and deep dish pizza.

This location was so slow I would have left had it not been raining. It took 90 min. to get one pie. At that, it was lukewarm at best and very average...

Windy City Pizza Club at Giordano's 3/28/2011

In Chicago, pizza is religious. Fortunately for us, there are more than 200 different pizzeria's in the city, and each has it's own distinct signature item. Originally a Neapolitan cuisine, pizza has gone through different stages of development, and now we see styles such as Hand-Tossed and Roman Pizza, or the likes of Chicago-Style and Pan Pizza. As old as Giordano's is, its signature ""World Famous Stuffed Pizza"" is unlike any other on the market. Yes, some restaurant's have mastered the art of pizza. With respectable places like Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Due and Gino's to name a few, the wonderful world of stuffed pizza got it's start at Chicago's Giordano's. The 70's in Chicago were fine years for pizza as there weren't as many franchises making a name, so brothers Efron and Joseph Boglio took their mothers recipe and made it a household name. Now, there are 13 restaurants in Chicago and 30 more in the suburbs. The Windy City Pizza Club traveled to Giordano's Gold Coast recently and had an interesting experience. The actual restaurant is long and fairly big and extremely crowded with little waiting area, especially on weekends. They have a full bar in the waiting area with tables for waiting. When you walk into Giordano's, you are asked to pre-order your food making the experience seem like you are here for fast food. The atmosphere was very unfriendly as the servers, hosts, and managers had little personality or lack of. It seemed they were trying to get you to leave rather than stay and enjoy. Because of this poor acting wait staff and managerial style, the experience for me, a first-timer at Giordano's was sour. After asking other members of the club what they thought, no one seemed to notice, probably because they were used to the fast-food type dining experience that Giordano's gives off. I was not impressed and felt like I was being rushed out of the restaurant so they could turn over our table of seven within an hour, and that they did. As for the actual Pizza, it's incredible. Yes, I said incredible. The pizza was a complete opposite of service and attitude and made the experience even itself out just a little. Giordano's has thin crust and stuffed, and as the club did not try the thin; it was clear that no one in their right minds would. Most impressively, you could turn a piece of the stuffed pizza upside down, and nothing would fall off the top. On top of that, the crust is actually stuffed with cheese. And because of the way it was prepared, it wasn't messy and easy to eat. The pizza itself was absolutely satisfying and made for an immediate pleasant aftertaste on our taste buds, especially the crust. Fortunately the pizza was delectable and I would go back, but only for take-out as the actual restaurant is more of a fast-food place than a restaurant. Let us hope that no other restaurant takes on the focus of ""great pizza, not-so-fun staff"". Regardless of my opinion, I highly suggest trying out Giordano's as a take out of delivery option as the stuffed pizza has me hooked. more

not worth the hype or wait 12/28/2010

This is always recommended as one of the places to get great Chicago-style pizza. I was very disappointed. You place your order when you first walk in so that you don't have to wait as long once you sit down at your table. We waited over an hour to be seated and still had to wait long once seated for our pizza anyway. When the pizza did arrive, it was cold. The cheese was not melted all the way through. It tasted like a frozen pizza. It did not seem like it was made with fresh ingredients. At least if I cooked my own frozen pizza, I'd have it hot. This is one of those places that relies on it's tourist clientele to keep business going, not quality food. Not recommended. more

Nobody will take your order over the phone! 11/14/2010

Nobody will take your order on the phone. As soon as they pick up the phone they put you on hold. Then they pick up the line 10 minutes later and ask if you can hold. I said no, I've been holding, can I please place an order and they just put you back on hold. I called back again and they put you on hold no matter what. There is no way to order a pizza from this f&@king place! I understand they are busy, but they should at least have someone there to answer the phone and put an order in. If it's going to take 2 hours then say that, but run your business!!! more

Had better pizza at Chuck E. Cheese. 12/12/2009

Let me first say that I am a fan of Chicago pizza and, although there are much better options, I've liked Giordano's ""Chicago Style"" pizza in the past. However, their thin crust pizza maybe the worst pizza I have ever tasted. It doesn't even earn the required one star.....really. Not to mention, we paid $32 for two medium pizzas. At this price, I would hope for a memorable pie and that is what we got, it was terrible. The crust was thick, not thin as advertised, and tasted like a frozen pizza. Save your money and buy DiGiorno's. It couldn't be any worse. Cons: Crust is like a bad frozen pizza more

Worst Customer Service 11/25/2009

My family and I waited for an hour and a half only to be treated with the rudest customer service I've experienced. The hostesses were abhorently immature and foul and on top of it by the time we got seated and our food, it wasn't all that great. I'd have enjoyed Pizza Hut just as much or perhaps more seeing that I wouldn't have to deal with rudeness on top of it! Pros: Nil Cons: Many more

Steer Clear 10/5/2009

I wanted to give Giordano's zero stars, but that wasn't an option. My husband and I visited Giordano's to experience their highly recommended pizza ? were we disappointed! We visited at around 5:00pm on a Saturday, but were ready and willing for the anticipated wait. After giving our name at the host?s stand and pre-ordering our pizza to reduce the wait after we got our table, we squeezed into the filled-to-capacity bar area. My husband went to the bar to order a beer but couldn?t get the bartender?s attention ? because this bartender had his back to the customers more than he faced the multitudes of potential customers. After waiting for a while we thought we heard our name called and made our way to the host?s stand. When we got there, we were rudely informed that it wasn?t our name that was called. We continued to wait with the rest of the throng and finally our name was called. The host basically grunted and pointed to a table near the front door. We took our seats at the indicated table and waited?we waited over 15 minutes and never saw a server. At this point we had been abused enough and left. We are not high-maintenance customers; we understood that is was a Saturday evening at a popular restaurant and that we would have to be understanding of the situation. The rudeness and inattentiveness experienced was beyond the situation; any good restaurant with attentive management would be prepared to handle the crowd of customers and would hire a staff that could handle the situation. Giordano?s isn?t the only place serving pizza in Chicago! Cons: The worst customer service! more

Great local Chicago Pizza and great garlic bread 11/4/2008

This was my first visit to this location. With the Randolph street location there isn't really much of a wait, but we waited about an hour at this location. After we put our name in they let you order your pizza since it does take about 45 minutes to cook. I would add about 1 or 2 people to the recommended people a pizza can feed if you are ordering the stuffed pizza. they seem to under estimate it by about 1 o 2 people. Pros: Great pizza and garlic bread. Cons: Long wait. Just build that time into your evening. more

Excellent Deepdish pizza! 10/27/2008

I ate at 3 different Giordano's locations in Chicago, and the service and pizza were always excellent. The pizza can definitely take a long time to make, particularly during busy hours, so you need to be patient. Pros: Great deepdish pizza, good value, good service Cons: Large sizes of deepdish can easily take 45 minutes wait time, if not longer more
