This place is a hidden gem. I live not too far away and a friend asked me to meet her there. ""Mixville""? I was like, what kind of name is that? It sounded creepy but when I saw ...

first of all, Valet parking is NOT free, it's $2.00 plus an expected tip. No big deal there, since it's tough to park. We just visited on a slow Monday and our entree took, no l...

Terrible Mother's Day 5/14/2007

Ate dinner here twice and it wasn't bad, but the special brunch deals are a blatant rip-off. We took my mother here on Mother's Day - prix fixe at $30 per person for four of us. No drink included, not even coffee. Muffins to start, then a choice of five dishes (we all had the eggs florentine - terrible). Twenty minutes after we finished eating the waiter brought us a plate of chocolate strawberries, two per person. With coffee, tax and a 10% tip - because the service was so bad - this cost $160. With a real tip it would have been $175, but the waiter was either high or hungover and did a terrible job. Anywhere else, this Sunday brunch might have run us $75 tops - restaurants like this make a killing on these days, such as Valentines, because they know they can charge anything and no one is going to complain or make a scene in front of their family. Everyone wants it to be a nice day, right? Our third and last time there. more

Used to be better! 4/27/2007

My wife and I used to live around the corner from this bar and it was our FAVORITE place to take friends for a drink, order appetizers, and people-watch. We moved up north a year ago and recently returned...what a difference! There was no music, the bar was practically empty, and our group was very uncomfortable sitting at the bar--we were stared at the whole time by a loud group of diners in the other room! Where did the social scene go? Oh well, the drinks were still good and we have a new favorite hangout up north. But we miss the old Silver Lake! Pros: great drinks in a cool room Cons: too quiet, hard to socialize more

VERY beautiful space, wonderful food! 3/7/2007

I see that many of the reviews here go back as far as 2002 ... definitely discard them immediately. As of March 2007, I had one of my favorite dining experiences ever at Edendale Grill. The restaurant and bar are in a vintage brick firehouse, and the interior is beautifully decorated: classy, tasteful, with touches of Craftsman era design. Perfect surroundings for a romantic date, a gathering of friends or family, or a business meeting. The lighting and the ambiance are warm and comforting. A perfect compliment to the food, which is also all about ""comfort."" I described my delicious entree of bacon-wrapped meatloaf and mashed potatoes with perfectly cooked carrots and spinach to my companion as ""the comfort food they serve in heaven."" Her entree of pork chops with butternut squash and harricots verts was also excellent. A dessert of apple crisp with cranberries and vanilla ice cream was awesome. I would choose Edendale over the nearby Brent's anytime. Edendale must have a new manager and kitchen staff from years ago, because my experience was heavenly. A perfect mix of comfort and class. The bar is also beautiful, and deserves a visit just for drinks. Very ""Raymond Chandler-esque."" more

DISAPPOINTED......... 2/25/2007

My girlfriend and I have wanted to go try out this restaurant since we grew up in the area and try to support newer establishments. We spontaneously decided to go for brunch and were disappointed with the service. We were not checked on at all! After we ordered we never saw our waiter till after we had finished our meals and our plates had been taken away. I actually wanted to order something else and have another drink but we were just left there to sit with our empty table. Pros: Nice place. Cons: Bad service. more

Top choice in Silverlake for great food and cocktails, beautiful patio, and friendly service 12/7/2006

Edendale Grill is one of Silverlake's best restaurants. The menu is straighforward and all items are delicious. I recommend the truely tasty tableside ceasar salad (for 2) and the strip steak. Edendale is also a perfect place for a cocktail and a snack. It is usually busy late with a fun crowd on weekend nights. The service is efficient and friendly, and I have noticed that they have maintained a consistent team of servers for some time now. For both dinner and drinking, I recommend a table on the patio - it is one of the most beautiful in town. (FYI - the georgeous trees out front are Acacia Covenyi and are available for sale at the Sunset Nursery.) Pros: Patio dining, cocktails, service more

Miss the Nickodell? Edendale Remembers.... 8/26/2006

Edendale Grill is a valentine to the great 40's-era LA watering holes. Dark wood, mixed drinks, hefty salads, m-e-a-t. This is the genuine article. If only we could still smoke in the bar, eh?\r \r The owners and staff are a lively group of local personalities, and they work hard for your pleasure.\r \r Go enjoy. more

Unique and Charming Ambiance, Good Eats, Pretty Bad Service 8/25/2006

This place is a unique addition to the Silverlake hood. A delightful 1920s Mediterranean firehouse has been turned into a beautiful dining room with 2 patios and a dramatic high-ceilinged bar -- the bar is actually where the fire engines were housed. The food was disappointing a couple years back (hence the griping older reviews) but the owners have worked things out. \r \r I have to say that the service is wildly inconsistent. Over Labor Day weekend, I took a friend from Chicago there for dinner. After making an 830 PM reservation a week in advance, we were kept waiting 15 minutes because no one would clear and set our table. A gruff waiter dropped menus off and took off into the night -- we did not see him ever again. We waited 15 minutes to give our drink order to the heavy-set hostess. I complained to her about all of the faux pas and she shrugged her shoulders and said ""sorry"". I asked to speak to a manager. She said she was the manager. I told her it was unacceptable and she said ""sorry"" again without promising to correct the situation. We left.\r \r This is very sad because only 2 months earlier I had a wonderful experience when I took my mom and dad there for their anniversary. On that occasion a young woman from Michigan, was excellent. She knew when to hover and when to hang back. Her recommendations were excellent -- the steak, the pork chops and the fish were all wonderful. The appetizers were a nice array of new interpretations on old downhome classics. You'd be a fool not to save room for dessert. We had grilled peaches with a homemade vanilla ice cream, along with a dark chocolate pistachio pate flavored with red zinfandel wine. Wow. Apart from all of this, you won't find a nicer looking bar anywhere in Hollywood if you tried.\r \r Bottom line - I am going to stick to the bar where the service is good and the full menu is available. Pros: Sophisticated yet laidback. Delicious food. Cons: Inconsistent and indifferent service more

Hippest place in Los Angeles!! 8/25/2006

I love this place. It is in a class all its own. Very hip without being trendy. The food is great and the atmosphere is relaxed and cool. Not on the usual ""trendy map, it is well worth checking out. Part bar, part restaurant. All Cool....\r \r Check this place out. Pros: Valet parking. Hip crowd. Great food!!! more

great ambiance & decor, friendly waitstaff, AWESOME STEAK 8/23/2006

Unpretentious and sophisticated the Edendale has become a great neighborhood staple as a place for food, drink and gatherings. The choice of seating (front patio, indoors and back patio ) allow for a comfortable setting whatever your mood. The owners have decorated in a way that feels true to the original firehouse with a nod to old Hollywood. You can go for a great dinner ( the flatiron steak and onion rings are my favorite ) or just have a drink at the Mixville bar and an appetizer ( i love the calamari and the crab cakes ). And the red velvet cake..........did I say YUMMMMMMMM!!! more

Great food, best bar in Silverlake 8/23/2006

I love the food, the meatloaf is a highlight, the steaks are wonderful and everything I have had to eat or drink has been first rate. \r The amibance of the restored firestation is amazing, the dining room is very nice but I really love the outdoor patio dining and the bar. The bar is long and narrow-the firetruck used to park there, and it is without equal in Los Angeles for atmosphere. It is called Mixville, a pun on the name of Tom Mix the cowboy star who made his movies in the area and the mixing of cocktails, but the real story here is the mix of people...this is an ecclectic crowd if ever there was one! \r Each and every time I have been there I have seen famous people, for those who like that sort of thing. Movie and TV stars as well as writers, painters, recording artists. \r As a local hang out Edendale is the tops. It would be my number one choice for out of town guests as well, very Los Angeles, historical, delicious and good for people watching. The service is excellent and the staff has personality without being overbearing, it is like dining with friends. The neighborhood is safe and charming, a bit off the beaten path. \r This is one of my favorite L.A. restaurants and everytime I go there I love it more. It just gets better on every level, it seems they are always improving their game, which I really admire in any restaurant. \r Without a doubt it is the most comfortable place I know in the city and dinner there always seems to be more fun than anywhere else. Flatiron steak with Maytag Blue Cheese my personal all time favorite there, followed very closely by the meatloaf, which really is as good as a steak, my favorite of all meatloafs! Pros: food, ambiance, patio Cons: can be busy, some people don't know the area more

Great bar 8/23/2006

One of the best neighborhood hangs. Casual chatty fun in the most fabulous environment in town. Dining or appetizers at the bar, along with the great service, makes for a wonderful experience. The dining room is more formal. A great place to take the relatives, or have a business meeting. The patios are beautiful and lush. The landscaping is amazing. Pros: Architecture, landscaping, interior design perfect Cons: none really more

Best Atmosphere 8/22/2006

I recently went to this restaurant w/ 5 friends to celebrate my birthday. It was fantastic! We sat out on the patio. There were lots of couples, but also several parties of 6 to 8. The ambiance was awesome and food was phenomenal! Especially the desert menu!!!! I will defintiely be dining here more often and telling everyone I know how great it is! more

steak, steak, steak 8/21/2006

they have the best steak and onion rings in town. period. \r i've eaten at almost every steakhouse in town and this place is the best. always cooked exactly as i ordered it. quality of meat is excellent. more

We love the brunch 8/21/2006

Wow, there's some old reviews for this place, so maybe they got a whole lot better, but we think it's better than more expensive places we sometimes frequent. Fave waiter=Jason who is so funny you'll wet your pants. I always get the meatloaf and my girl gets whatever fish. I had a taste of her scallops last time and can't wait to go get some more, I'm seriously thinking about them for a week now.\r I bring my mom here and she thinks I'm respectable for knowing about a joint like this. I would bring my boss here if I had one to be impressive. But mostly I meet my friends here and smoke on the patio with a few beers. Pros: Smoking Patio more

Best Fish Dishes 8/21/2006

I wish this place would get it together. It's like they just don't care, and if that's the case they would do everybody a favor by selling it to somebody who does. It should be a great place and you want it to be a great place, but it continues to be a sadly lackluster business in a great building. Pros: Stellar Ambience, Smart & Friendly Staff, Great Food Cons: Hard to find and there's no sign more

Best Caesar Salads Tableside 8/21/2006

This place is so great. I just love to meet my husband here after work, have a few appetizers and a glass of wine. Or for ""girls night out"" with my buddies, or when the family visits, birthdays, all that. Everybody I take here is enthralled with the history & elegance and it becomes their ""discovery"" and that's fun.\r There's a photo booth on the back patio to commemorate special days like when my husband proposed to me as flash #2 went off.\r I think the food is excellent and I am a sous chef at a fancy downtown restaurant, so I have pretty high standards.\r The wine list is good and medium priced. The cocktails menu provides nostalgia in a glass. The servers and staff are perfect Silver Lake quirky characters; always warm and fun. Pros: Medium Priced Great Food Cons: Loud Dining Room more

From My Perspective... 6/18/2006

My wife and I came in for drinks after hearing about it from a friend. First of all - the valet is NOT free - but $4.50 on Saturday (which is still better than wasting time searching for free parking). The Bar/Restaurant has some great patios/outdoor seating which is more conducent to socializing. Truely a great mix of all types, or I should say of ""laid back"" types - which is refreshing. The music inside was inaudiable (maybe it was just where I was sitting?). The bar and patios were pretty crowded with a lively group that probably got better as the night went on. And lastly (a pet peeve of mine), why or why don't they chill the glasses when one serves beer? Overall a very good experience... Pros: Outdoor Seating Cons: Sound System more

Little Silver Lake Fairyland 5/29/2006

I disagree with the negative reviews. I have been here many times and it's one of my favorite little local places to get appetizers and drinks. I dunno...maybe because I moved here from NYC, but the prices don't shock me for what you get. They make a FANTASTIC martini and their meatloaf is PHENOMENAL. The BLT salad is excellent and I love love love the Kobe beef appetizer (ask for extra toasts). The front outdoor patio is romantic and easy to have a conversation in. The gorgeous long bar inside reminds me of New York and I have such a crush on the skinny black-haired waiter. And for those who don't want to pay the measly $3.50 for the valet, there is almost always street parking within a block. Pros: Fairy Lighting, Perfect Martinis, Can hear each other Cons: sometimes crowded, slow service more

Could have been better. . . . 5/3/2006

From the beginning it seemed like a romantic setting with alot of beautiful scenery and the service was very nice, but once the salads arrived I knew that was going to be the let down. With prices higher than the other local restaurants, you would expect the meals to be de-lish. Being that my lovely wife and I have enjoyed so many good meals on our tour of life, it just seems to be a shame that such a quaint place unfortunately does not have a menu to match. Hopefully someone from the establishment will read this and make changes before having to close its doors Cons: over expensive more

over it 4/20/2006

i used to love this place. the last couple of times i visited the food just tasted like nothing. i thought they'd put their best foot forward for easter brunch and brought someone here for the 1st time. they hated it. i hated it. the bill was $80 for 2- it was prix fixed but as an example, their idea of ""assorted muffins and scones"" was a half of a blueberry muffin, a raisin scone, and a stale-ish half a loaf of cinammon bread. yuck. i'll never be back. i even expressed myself on the comment card and haven't even gotten a response. too bad, it's a beauitful location. Pros: lovely, historic bldg Cons: food, service, value more
