Best

This place is a hidden gem. I live not too far away and a friend asked me to meet her there. ""Mixville""? I was like, what kind of name is that? It sounded creepy but when I saw ...

Worst

first of all, Valet parking is NOT free, it's $2.00 plus an expected tip. No big deal there, since it's tough to park. We just visited on a slow Monday and our entree took, no l...

I Can't Hear U? 4/10/2006

The Edendale Grill is in a gorgeous building. Unfortunately the inside is lacking in ambience, food, and price value. I hate restaurants that are SO LOUD you can't hear the conversation at the table. Besides the noise the food was sub-par. The table side Ceasar was one of the worst I have ever had? They need to teach the server how to make a good ceasar or dump it from the menu. Gget a tip from LG'S Steak House in Palm Springs-Now there's an excellent ceasar.) The rest of the meal was not so good either- The pork chop was dry and the turnips overcooked. The best thing about this place may be drinking at the bar. The food is terrible and the prices do not reflect this poor food. Lower the prices or get a better chef! Oh and did I mention how LOUD the room is-UGH. No Thanks. Pros: Building Historic, Bar Nice Cons: Loud, Bad Food, Over-priced more

Never Again 1/20/2006

Cesar salad for 2, 1 shrimp cocktail appetizer and one drink each. $60 with tip & valet. For 2 people this was the biggest rip off I've ever seen. The Cesar Salad for 2 ($18) is made by your table. I guess it's their signature menu item so we gave it a try. It was ok but I've had better Cesar Salads out of a jar. The place is nice and the service was good but I will never go back. I don't think my Margarita ($8) had any alcohol in it. The valet charged $4.50 and we had to walk half way down the block to get our car. Never again. Pros: Clean, Nice Bar, Service Cons: REALLY EXPENSIVE, Horrible Parking, Food Below Average more

Best mojitos in L.A. 12/19/2005

I love everything about his restaurant and bar. They have the best mojitos! The food is good, the restaurant is beautiful, and the service is terrific. GO!!! Pros: great drinks, good food more

Great Bartenders 10/14/2005

We love this bar! Every time we go, the bartenders are friendly and get us our drinks quickly. They all make a damn fine martini and the wine and beer selection is good. Drink prices are more reasonable than other 'trendy' silverlake spots. And we always end up in conversation with some of the other customers. Everyone is in a good mood and just out to have a good time. They key is to go after 10pm. Street parking is easier and the dinner crowd has moved on. I highly recommend this place. Pros: service, drinks, atmosphere Cons: no happy hour drinks more

Edendale Grill, a beautiful dining experience! 9/6/2005

I have returned several times to the marvelous Edendale Grill and have introduced this very cool place to a number of friends. Each time we are greeted by a great and lively staff who have never failed to provide us with a wonderful evening of dining pleasure. The Edendale Grill is housed in an old firehouse which is an official historical site. They've done a fine job converting it to a unique and special dining experience where every detail is designed to enhance one's dining pleasure. The great food, the drinks, the one of a kind ambiance all come together to make a totally enjoyable dining event. Good times had by all! Pros: Great menu, Attentive staff, Reasonable prices more

User review by jpearls 8/1/2005

We had a great dinner there the other night. I was pleasantly surpised with our dinners! We started with the calamari (so good!) and asparagus salad. The ahi tuna was excellent, as was the salmon special (interesting set up). Good selection on the wine list... We were sat quickly with our reservations, the hosts were very nice and accomodating the service was attentive, even with how busy it was. We'll be back! more

Great brunch or drinks - bad entrees 7/26/2005

I've eaten brunch at Edendale several times and have often wondered how they manage such great brunch but such bad dinner. The service and atmosphere are so good here for happy hour that I can forgive the so so bar menu but the main restaurant menu is downright poor. There's no point in complaining (I have on two separate occasions) because you will be cross examined as to why you didn't like it. I wish they would do better because it is such a great location and I have found it terrific fun for large groups. The bartenders are superb and can mix even the most obscure cocktail yet still make a perfect martini. Pros: atmosphere, cocktails / bar, service Cons: entree food more

Loved it! 5/23/2005

After reading some of the reviews I was hesitant but thank goodness I decided to go. I thought the outdoor dining was wonderful, the food was amazing - got the filet mignon and the trout as well as the cesar salad, even the coffee was great. Had reservations did not have to wait and got seated outside. I had one of the enjoyable dining experiences this year. They also served the best mixed drinks. So many restaurants now you will find the tables so close together that you can not hear each other speak but not at Edendale. Pros: outdoor seating, relaxing atmosphere more

Cross Cheescake Factory with Pretension 3/26/2005

I was very disappointed by the Edendale Grill. I'd heard good things but the food overall was incredibly bland -- mashed potatoes with absolutely nothing but potatoes and not even particularly good potatoes, trout that was tasty but once again bland. It reminded me on the plate of something one might see in a seniors' center cafeteria, with the pasty color of the fish and the the gluey color of the sauce without a touch of any other color. Not even a baby vegetable. The service was not bad, it was just not particularly good. Overall, a boring experience and I would never recommend it or go back again. more

What A Drag!! 1/23/2005

i was afraid to return, i should have listened to my instincts... a balmy night for january, we sat outside, but some heat lamps would have been nice. it took 3 attempts to order a bottle of wine! each time the waiter returned ""i'm sorry, we're out of that one"" - 3 times!! stock your bar! the food is still just ok - nothing great. the waiter was common, no class here. it's a shame because the space is so great. i wish another restaurant was here instead of edendale. maybe that will happen if they keep up the bad food & wait staff.... Pros: ambiance Cons: long wait w/reservati more

should have complained!!! 11/6/2004

My biggest regret about dining at Edendale Grill is that I did not complain to the chef about the food!! The albacore was so severely overcooked that I could not cut it with a butter knife. (Last time I checked, properly prepared fish should be tender and flaky.) The white beans that accompanied the fish were gummy (overcooked), and the chocolate pecan pie's crust was like cardboard. Since three of the five of us ordered the fish, that was about $60.00 down the tubes!!! Pros: pretty, appetizers Cons: , side dishes, dessert more

first time experience 9/8/2004

Definitely not for the vegetarians...limited menu offers only one entree without meat. Although service was fair, we had an interesting experience while dining. We were acouple on the end of a large party. We ordered the ""ceasar salad for two- prepared tableside"". Since i am a vegetarian, we ordered this large salad so that i would be able to eat it as an entree aswell....but when the sald came to the table platedup in very small portions for everymember of the party(NOT prepared tableside) the waiter informed us ""I figured since the salad was so big id split it up -so everyone can have salad!"" . I thought this was so bizarre that he would assume this without checking with the people who actually had ordered the food. not impressed. more

Much improved 7/8/2004

The Edendale has greatly improved as of late. The food is more consistant and service is good. The meatloaf is my favorite item and also one of the cheapest! As for the ""over-dressed"" Caesar, since the customer dictates the level of seasoning as it is made, you can only blame yourself if you insist on too much. The bar is the most impressive aspect. My only complaint is the isolated location, it can be hard to find. Pros: Good Food, Cool Space, Reasonable Prices more

Ask for George... 5/25/2004

Full disclosure: I live near this place, which makes it all the better because who cares about parking? (though they have valet). This place signifies the new Silver Lake - a little nicer, still not pretentious, still cool & laid back, but you don't need tattoos or ripped clothes to feel like you fit in. They've turned a fire station truck bay into simply a grand-but-inviting space. I don't frequently just go to a bar for a drink, but I make special trips to this one. And I don't know what the 'cool/unfriendly people' comments are about - this is a place to get a drink with a friend, and everyone is friendly while giving you your space. And ask for George at the bar - the City's best barkeep! Pros: Great surroundings, Great drink selection Cons: , A little pricey more

Too much hype 3/3/2004

Dinner here the other night was good but nothing spectacular. I had the vegetarian entree which was vegetable phyllo pies which were creative and delicious. My husband had chicken which was blah. The pistachio crusted Brie was good and very beautifully displayed but the spinach salad unimaginative. The wine list was small and uninspired. The prices were high for the type of food. Service was OK. The menu is really limited. Pros: Fun ambience, Lovely presentation Cons: , Tiny wine list, Few menu options more

LOVE IT! 1/12/2004

I read such mix reviews and was a bit nervous but found everything so delicious, great service, and quite reasonable for a nice dinner out. more

could be better 9/22/2003

first of all, Valet parking is NOT free, it's $2.00 plus an expected tip. No big deal there, since it's tough to park. We just visited on a slow Monday and our entree took, no lie, 30 minutes to come out, and that's AFTER the salad. Everyone around us got their food before us. We never got an explanation or apology. The carrots were overcooked but cold, and the pureed yams with the duck were more like a dessert than a side, too sweet and heavy with vanilla flavor. Very weird. Had to ask for water refills (again, it was a slow night, so no excuse.) Our meal took over 2 hours from start to finish. Also, we noticed other diners were offered different (and better) specials than we were. Pros: good coffee, nice lighting, good background music Cons: slow SLOW service, food seemed "off" more

Mixed experiences 8/15/2003

The best thing about Mixville is the interior lighting, which has not been captured in the photo: The bar is fairly low light with long vertical plastic panels that are lit from behind...and are orange. It's a remarkable ambience. The drinks are uniformly well-made; sometimes exceptional. But the joint is crowded -- the spillover section in the back is NOT comfortable or ""cool"" -- and the crowd is not a particularly friendly one. Drinking on the patio is okay if the sun is down and the weather's cool, but the traffic noise is continual. Pros: Interior light in eve, good drinks Cons: Parking is awful, Crowd: tedious/cool, No space at bar more

Beautiful Neighborhood restaurant 8/13/2003

I Recently had diner with five of my friends at the Edendale Grill. I had the flatiron steak, which was perfectly mediun-rare, and the ceasar salad which tasted exquisite. Our waiter was attentive and sweet, and made the expeirence that much more enjoyable. The bar, built in the old truck bay of this 1940's firehouse was beautiful. The bartender was pleasant and made a great martini. The overall atmosphere was excellent. Pros: FREE VALET, great food, great service more

Great ambiance, bad experience 7/2/2003

I was so eager to try this neighborhood bar, but was disappointed on my visit. The ambiance is great in the refurbished the old firestation, but i was not impressed w/ the service or crowd. With all the good seats taken at the bar, we were exhiled to the end of the bar in order to squeeze in and get a drink. It took us a few trys in order to find a seat at all. The crowd was too snooty for my taste and not very exciting. Pros: Local Bar Cons: No parking, Crowd, Minimal seating more
