This place is a hidden gem. I live not too far away and a friend asked me to meet her there. ""Mixville""? I was like, what kind of name is that? It sounded creepy but when I saw ...

first of all, Valet parking is NOT free, it's $2.00 plus an expected tip. No big deal there, since it's tough to park. We just visited on a slow Monday and our entree took, no l...

Great Silverlake Find 6/11/2003

I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Edendale. The service and ambiance were spectacular. I highly recomend the caesar salad. It's just a quick trip from downtown, so I know not that I'll be there often. more

From someone who's been more than once: 1/25/2003

Wow, kind of surprised at the strong emotions from other reviewers. I've been a few times and can say it's been really good every time. Flatiron steak is AWESOME. Onion rings are addictive. Chili is really smoky and unique. Tableside-tossed caesar salad just tastes REAL, not ""restaurant,"" you know what I mean. Service is friendly, no ""unemployed actor"" bs. For Silver Lake, this place is a god send. Elegant American food at about the same prices you'd pay for Thai-drinks are WAY cheaper than in Hollywood (don't know what that guy was on) and DEEP bar selection/great cheap wine. What's not to like? Pros: reasonable prices, free valet parking, great atmosphere Cons: sometimes a wait more

Love This Place! 1/23/2003

This place is so not Silver Lake. It's more dressy and much nicer than any other bar on this side of the hill. I'm not one to visit the same places over and over again, but I've been here at least 4 or 5 times since it first opened. And I plan on going back more. Order a glass of red wine and chill out on the patio. The food is OK, nothing special. Save your money and eat at Stella or Hillmont instead. Pros: good service, nice decor, patio Cons: food not great, parking difficult, kind of small more

My felllow diner's and I were very dissapointed with the mediocre food and service at Edendale. The food was cold and my own Mothers' dessert is way better than the dry, tasteless cobbler. On a positive note, the Mixville bar is wonderful and we had great sevice from the friendly bartender's. Pros: great building, great bar Cons: terrible food more

tasty and inexpensive! 12/21/2002

we had a fantastic dinner here in December, loved the oysters rockafeller and the tableside ceasar. The homemade bread was yummy too! A nice surprise was with the lower than expected prices of the entrees...Salmon for $13 and a great steak for $17. The dining room is small and intimate, the patio was packed with diners too... The service was some of the best we've gotten on the Eastside and was friendly. The bar was dark and romantic and the bartendar makes a great martini...I thought $5.75 was a good price for the drink..... 5 stars on the atmosphere as well..I will go here as a regular! more

much room for improvement. 12/11/2002

The editorial review was FAR to kind. The re-do of the place is beautiful...I have driven by the location for years and it's great to see the old building treated with great respect and tasteful design. The dining experience was far less desireable. The unfriendly staff behaved as if they were recently beaten, appetizers were small and overcooked. The plates were straight from a Fancy Denny's. The main course was dissapointing (chewy steak) with vegetables seemingly straight from a can. Not to forget the hum drum mashed potatos from a box (hint to chef: Flavor makes things taste nice.) dessert was dull too. (carrot cake from Ralph's) They should keep the space but send the chef back to city college. Pros: atmosphere, full bar, lounge Cons: food, service, food more

Food not as good as decor 12/10/2002

I love the renovation - the Edendale grill is not just pretty, it's architecturally interesting. I was with five people so I can say that a wide variety of drinks in the bar are very well mixed. The food, however, was a bit dissapointing. The salad was highly over-dressed, while the steaks seemed seriously underseasoned. The sides varied from nice to really bland. A few of the appetizers were really good, but generally - it has a way to go. My friends, who aren't as big foodies as me, didn't care as much, but I think I'll stick to drinks and apps in the bar until the kitchen figures out how to use the salt and pepper mills correctly. Pros: Architecture, ambience, service Cons: overdresssed, underseasoned, bland more

Yummy!!! 12/10/2002

I had a wonderful experience there. The filet was amazing and the service was great! more

it's a far cry from millie's! 11/15/2002

edendale grill and mixville could potentially be a great addition to a neighborhood sorely lacking in good, mid-range restaurants. it's open late and has made wonderful use of the old firehouse, with a vast heated patio and eclectic mix of movie history and art. the food, though presented a little more homestyle (packaged butter pats belong in a coffee shop, not in a restaurant with linens and china) than haute cuisine , is delicious. the steaks are tender, the sauces inventive, the portions generous and the prices fair. but if you prefer to hang at mixville, their beautifully appointed bar, be prepared to have deep pockets and an expense account. the cocktail prices are exorbitant and what one might expect to pay at a high-priced hotel, not a neighborhood restaurant. the restaurant's worth a visit but apres-dinner cocktails might be better served elsewhere... Pros: complimentary valet, large outdoor area, landmark space Cons: overpriced bar, limited bar seating more
