Based on all the glowing reviews she gets, it looks as if there MANY people that feel exactly how I do about Rita! I have been going to Rita at Astor Place for cuts and color for quite some time now and I feel lucky and blessed to know such a talented and all around wonderful person. She is a super-talented stylist and a beautiful person inside and out! She takes such pride in her work and always goes to great lengths to make sure her clients are beyond satisfied. Besides myself, I have referred at least a half a dozen friends to her who are all rave about her talents and the fact she has a huge heart as well. I can honestly say, all of us have never looked better! I am a woman who always needs to be on top of my game as far as my look is concerned and Rita has been a blessing for me to keep me at my absolute best. As if being incredible at cuts and color weren't enough, she has even recently added specialized Reiki facials and full makeovers to her services in her private room! I am happy to say I just experienced one of her amazing facials and I can't believe how great it made me look and feel! It was so relaxing and envigorating - I am positively glowing! Not only is Suzy one of the most friendly, warm, and jovial Greek women you will ever meet, she is a whiz when it comes to hair. When I moved to Brooklyn in '99 I was struggling to find a decent hair stylist that didn't cost a fortune. I was reluctant to leave my Philly stylist behind, but it had to be done. A friend recommended her when I was in the midst of a hair emergency (read: do-it-yourself dye job gone horribly wrong) in 2000 and I have been going to her ever since. Suzy saved me from myself! Now I drive 2 hours from my current home in CT to get my hair cut and colored by her, and ONLY her. And the compliments I get nearly daily are the best testament to Suzy's amazing craftmanship and style. I will make my long story as short as possible. I had been with the same hairdresser for 14 years. I left him, not because I didn't like the way he cut my hair. I left him because he always ran late. Cancelled appointments. Changed salons. Asked me to read his blackberry as he cut my hair. Left me sitting in the chair with wet hair as he drank his coffee in the back or took a phone call. So on it went. I decided I had enough!! I starting asking friends and doing hair salon research on City Search. 6 months ago I found a place on here that was highly recommended. It cost about the same $$$ as my previous guy. So ok. You can't put a price on good hair. So after two tries and one hair adjustment I was very disappointed and left with uneven hair. I waited two months for my hair to grow a bit and decided from these reviews that I should see Rita. Well she does live up to everything written about her. My hair looks great. She fixed the uneven cut and made me look cute. I confess that it took me two days of sitting with the style to realize...it's soo wonderful. I trust her completely. I went to Astor because I was looking for a new stylist for an affordable price. Well, the stars must have been aligned because I accidentally ended up in Rita's chair I had no IDEA who she is! I am blown away by her talent in highlighting and cutting style, and when I left I had THE BEST HAIR I have had IN MY LIFE! I have never written a review before, but after I went to the site, I realized I had gone to the HIGHEST RATED HAIRSTYLIST IN NYC! I am sending my friends to her, since most of them have had hair catastrophies at Bumble and Bumble and Fakkai. Rita totally blew me away. And I might add, there were at least 10 people patiently waiting for her while she worked on me, and they were really happy to see her. Everyone that came in hugged and kissed her like she is an old friend. None of the other hairdressers there got that kind of a welcome. Actually most of then seemed to be unfriendly. I kept thinking that these peoiple really love this girl! After Rita put the finishing touches on my new look, I hugged her too. You just can't help feeling happy and beautiful after she touches you. Not only perfect with what she does, but who she is and how she makes you feel. She touches your life in such a postive way you will be smiling ear to ear when you leave her chair. I like to see great hairdressers at work. I love the way they move and the way move... Alan is just one of those , with a flair for it! Alan gave me the best hair cut I ever had! I am very impressed with his technique. He uses all these different texture scissors , which made my hair a lot easyer to style. and the shape is chic / with lot's of movement . Just wonderful. Yes, You don't have to pay a fortune to get your hair looking and feeling beautifully . I use to go to a hair salon called the , "Pierre Michel" mid town Manhattan , at the hotel. But since I m looking to save some cash these days, I decide to look for a different , may be a bohemian , affordable; somewhere along these lines... I heard about Astor place, when I was going to College in NY. I decide to go over there and ask someone there to find me a excellent hairdresser ; then Mike, this lovely men at the entrance , assure me that " ALAN " was the person for the Job. Thanks Mike, for introduce to Alan. What can I say about Alan... He is a sweet guy, with miracle hands. I have thick straight hair, ( lot's of grey ) I got some natural hi lights, some low lights, and he touch up my base. I couldn't be any happier , for less then 200 bucks... I had been to a few stylists the past few years and was never really satisfied...until now. Rita at Astor Place Hair is unbelievably talented at everything you would want in a stylist, but besides that, she is also engaging, smart, funny and her attitude is really refreshing! I have seriously suffered from salon to salon for over 5 years and tired of spending salon prices. I was in the area one day, and came across Astor Place and thought to myself, not expensive, let me give this a try. I walked in and was led to Suzie. I explained to her explicitly what I prefer which were highlights and low lights with a cut that compliments me and what I do not wish for is a shorter cut, highlights that are too thick and a(n) overall color that is too dark. Before she started, she explained to me which options I had for my cut and color as a stylist of _40_years. I understood that she was in fact a stylist, b/c she has the experience and not just some female who is new to the industry. I was still so paranoid because of my very bad past experiences and Suzie kept reassuring me and kept answering my every remark, commment and question with such professionalism, that anyone else would have told me, "please get up and leave". You have to understand, I have to look sharp for my clientele......! I was looking throughout the whole process, when she finally was blowdrying my hair and the actual color of my hair and style of my cut was in full blown detail, I was ecstatic. The feeling I had was undescribable. I had meetings, errands, and literally everywhere I went either I would have people ask me where I had my color and style done or I would find myself admiring my own self...You can tell when a stylist is a stylist, the way that they maneuver there hands. I drive almost an hour to to get to NYC's best and most professional stylist. Rita at Astor Place is well worth the drive! Her name always stands out on all the review sites because she is by far the best out there. I have used Rita for haircuts, base color, her amazing "sun kissed" highlights and even her Reiki facials and full corporate makeovers in her private room which is so relaxing! If you want a rockstar look without the rockstar attitude from your stylist, see Rita at Astor. She gave me the most awesome highlights and haircut- and had the best advice on how to update my whole look than I have ever gotten in my life! I also heard from my forends that her facials and makeovers are also amazing, so I will definitely be going back for those as well.
