Wonderful Food, & Experience! I love this place

Worst

I know that this place is a landmark, However, i do not know what the big deal is. I have eaten there 3 times, and I always come away saying ""I've had better"". The food is OK, ...

Eat at a Barn & You Get Barn-Yard Food 12/10/2002

The restaraunt is very one-dimensional (they claim to have great steaks), and they are not very adept at that one dimension (steaks are fair to good, but certainly not great). Order any of the non-steak items, and you travel a risky path. Seafood is decent, but not very good; pasta is OK; salads are OK. Overall, I can't understand how the restaraunt maintains its reputation over all of the years, especially with so many other great steakhouses in such close proximity (Sullivan's, Ruth Chris, etc.). If you want to spend the money on a great meal, go elsewhere. The Barn seems happy to take your money, while not fullfilling its part of the deal. Pros: Close proximity Cons: Price, Food, Service more

Disappointing Steak Experience 12/10/2002

We went to the Angus Barn, expecting great things, but left dissapointed, as the steak was just okay - certainly not worth the price in my opinion. Enjoy a night out at the Outback, only spend half the money! Pros: Different Cons: Crowded, Expensive, Bland Food more

RED MEAT 12/3/2002

My husband dreams about this place... but this is my rating, and I'm not a big red meat eater. However, I have to admit that their steak is excellent. We eat here once every couple of months. I've had a few non-steak dishes that were also good to very good (the lamb and chicken were the best). My favorite sides are the spinach salad, the dessert wines, the french onion soup, and the baked onions. I find the atmosphere odd... eating at a picnic table for $100 per couple? Pros: Great Steak, Great Wine List, Very Good Service Cons: Not Healthy Food, Odd Atmosphere, Long Waits more

A true barn 11/26/2002

The barn is not the place if you want a romantic atmosphere. It is very open, crowded, and loud. The Christmas decorations are beautiful and the Wild Turkey Bar is the best around Raleigh. The cheese and relish bar are wonderful!!! And are offered in the bar where you can snack prior to dinner. It is packed almost every night, therefore reservations are recommended. There is a great gift shop where you can purchase the Angus Barn wine and cheese. Pros: great bar, great service, overall entertaining Cons: crowded, expensive, loud more

unimpressed 11/22/2002

I ate their once and was very disappointed. My steak was not all that great and my mashed potatoes were cold. I prefer the chop house or Ruth Chris's steak house. This place has a reputation and that is about all!!!! Not only that, but I felt like a cow was going to walk through at any moment. Pros: not many, cigar bar Cons: crowded, cold food, a joke more

Better than I imagined 11/14/2002

I went to the Angus Barn thinking it would be a place that relied on a reputation started years ago and faded by now. My in-laws wanted to go because they had heard about it back home in Maryland. Wow, was I ever wrong. While the decor is kind of tacky, the service and the food far exceeded my expectation. Besides great beef, we had outstanding soft shelled crabs and a Tilapia that was just wonderful. It's pricey but you do get what you pay for. more

NO SMILES HERE 11/14/2002

I just recently visited th Angus Barn along with about fifty other people. The atsomphere was okay, but the food was nothing to brag about, espically for the price they charge for it. We were all joking also about the service, not one of the staff memebers were smiling. We even tried to crack jokes with them. For a $4000.00 bill you would think that the smiles would've been implanted on their faces. I think that LongHorn has a better tasting steak that the Angus Barn. Pros: Good Parking Cons: Expensive, Not Friendly, Quality more

nothing's in a name 11/11/2002

WAY OVERRATED!! If you want a real steak there are many better restaurants. Save your money. Cons: overpriced, subaverage food more

The 'Best' 11/9/2002

Have never been to 'the barn' that everything wasn't the very best. Each and every time you have great atmosphere, great waitstaff, great food and the best 'house dessert' ever. Pros: waitstaff, good parking, pleasant wait more

Times have changed 11/6/2002

It's sad to see a restaurant's quality go so far down. But through the years that's exactly what has happened to the old red barn. It was never an excellent restaurant (except for the cheese plate appetizers & those great strawberry daquiris), but that didn't matter. It was a landmark for memories. Of after-the-game gatherings. College days. Special occasions. Carefree times. The creaky old floors & high back thoroughly uncomfortable chairs didn't matter to us. We were too young to notice. Times change. People get older. We pay for comfort, for luxury now. And we just don't find it in an old red barn. Pros: Wait staff, Parking Cons: Over-booked, Wait too long, Reservations useless more

Large Group 10/30/2002

Fed a large group in a timely manner with great food. Save room for the deserts! more

comfortable and classy 10/24/2002

Angus Barn is a great place to have dinner in a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable clothes without giving up the quality of service and food you might find in a stuffy restaurant. The service is consistently good and the portions are tasty and big. It may be a little pricey, but hey, you get what you pay for. We go whenever we get the chance. Pros: great service, big portions, super atmosphere Cons: not smoke-free, long wait, pricey more

A steak is a steak is a steak 10/14/2002

I think Angus Brn is for people with nothing better to do with there money. Nothing like sitting in a barn eating a 30 dollar steak need I say more. But the service is good though. Oh Yea don't forget about the jets flying over the resteaurant landing not to far away. Pros: service Cons: price more

overrated 10/4/2002

I ate here one weekend where I'd eaten at magnolia, and Papas grill. I had steaks at all three, and the angus barn was a distant third. Although it was the most expensive. The steak was good, but there are about 3 places that jump to mind that have noticably better steak that are less expensive. The atmosphere is fun, and it is a landmark place to eat in the triangle. The waitstaff are friendly, and always available, but very noticable. If you are looking for a good meal, with very friendly chatty waiters, fun farm decor, and price is not a concern then this is a great place. Pros: reputation, fun decor, relaxing atmosphere Cons: overpriced, overly friendly waits more

good steak 10/3/2002

I recommend it. Good place to take visitors out of town. Pros: good ambience, good steak Cons: expensive more

They call THAT a good steak?! 10/2/2002

I love steaks, and that had to be the sorriest excuse for a steak. I'd heard the hype for years about how wonderful it is. Well I decided to try it out and play ""wonderful daughter"" by taking Mom and Dad out for their wedding anniversary. Brought the siblings also, so we were a party of 5. I ordered a steak, mom got cabobs, brother got chicken, etc. so there was varity at the table. Well I should have saved my money and took them to the waffle house. The food was absolutely pathetic, and considering the price that is ridiculous. The wait staff was good though. I'll give the Barn credit for that, they hire good waiters/waitresses, but they are in dire need of new cooks. Pros: Service Cons: The food more

Awesome 9/23/2002

I've been there 4 times now and each time I go it seems even better than the last. Food is excellent, always cooked to perfection. Service is terrific, they are very attentive without being all over you. Definitely 5 star quality but with a more relaxed atmosphere. Pros: service, quality of food more

When ONLY the BEST will do 9/18/2002

There are reasons why the Angus Barn's reputation for incredible dining extend far beyond the triangle, indeed nationally and internationally. Perfectly aged beef prepared to perfection (they actually do the aging of beef ""on premises""), a wine celler unequaled in this area, and the best mixed drinks via the Wild Turkey Lounge. But the ""Crown Jewel"" of this restaurant is the absolutely flawless service. No where...I repeat, NOWHERE will you find better, more attentive service. We're talking ""pampered"" status for those fortunate to dine here. Van Eure, the owner, has fostered this this high level of quality service and excellent food following in the footsteps of her father who opened the restaurant in the 60's. When you want to elevate just eating out to a special unforgettable experience, this is definitely my First Choice...and once you have eaten there, it will be yours as well. Pros: Fantastic Steaks, Huge Wine Selection, The BEST SERVICE Cons: can't think of any more

Scrumptious 9/11/2002

They have great food and wonderful service. If you love being pampered visit the Angus Barn. They wait on you hand and foot. Pros: lots of parking, great service Cons: reservations more

Dry aged beef is best 9/4/2002

Angus Barn buys the very best beef available -- prime grade. Then, they dry age it in their very own restaurant so that it is the most flavorful. Of course it costs more, but it is definitely worth it. As someone who appreciates a good steak, I can think of no better than the Angus Barn offers. more
