Wonderful Food, & Experience! I love this place

Worst

I know that this place is a landmark, However, i do not know what the big deal is. I have eaten there 3 times, and I always come away saying ""I've had better"". The food is OK, ...

Yuck! 2/12/2005

I went there for a friend's birthday. The place was nice enough, and while you wait there's crackers and dips. The ambiance was nice, with the lights dimmed and the waiter great. But the FOOD!! yuck! My meal, which was the cheapest one on the menu, was $45(for the entre only). The steak was extremly thick, and chewy. The crab was ok. The peas and mashed potatoes were cold in the middle, and looked like they had been taken out of the freezer and threwn into the microwave for 30 sec. The prices are too high for the food. Pros: Nice Ambience, Great service Cons: Bad food, Bad prices more

Phenominal! 11/29/2004

After having returned from overseas with the military and wanting to share a special night, my wife and I made reservations for the Angus Barn. The best wine list this side of the mississippi compounded with fantastic cuts of meat, wonderful service and amazing fusion dishes, this is a must visit resturaunt for anyone who enjoys dining. Pros: Wonderful steak, Wine List, Service more

All about the atmosphere, not the food 9/5/2004

What a disappointment. The building is beautiful, the service is outstanding, but the food is sorely lacking. My steak was lukewarm, and my veggies ice cold. My husband's was the same. My kids' meals were lacking, to say the least. This place had been so hyped up to us that we expected the best steak in town. It was far from it, and considering the whopping tab, we will not be going back. Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: , price more

OVERRATED 8/18/2004

Highly overrated. I had the Filet Mignon, the only thing that was warm on my plate. The potatoes were unsightly, and tasted horrible as did the side of vegetables. Its just not worth the money, the service however, was outstanding, they honor every request. Overall, you are paying for the status symbol that is associated with Angus, because it is definitely not a fine dining experience. Pros: Great Service, Warm atmosphere Cons: , Poor lighting, limited menu choices more

LOVE the Barn!!! 7/26/2004

I totally agree the food and service at the Barn is impeccable! If something isnt perfect to your liking, just mention it, and theyll handle it very graciously and professionally. The price isnt totally unreasonable you really get a lot of food for your money. For starter, you get the relish tray, w/cheeses and crackers, then salad (great spinach salad by the way), and bread with your entree (not to mention the sides that come with it). The staff is always very knowledgeable you can ask them about the food/beverages, and theyll kindly respond. The steaks there are wonderful I love their Connoisseur prime rib perfectly seasoned and roasted, melts in your mouth every time!!! YUM! The giant stuffed shrimps are delicious, the ribs are finger-licking good, the seafood specials are excellent. I dont think weve had anything bad there and we always have leftovers to take home :-) Pros: Excellent food, Great service, Connoisseur prime rib more

Always great 7/18/2004

I have been going to the Barn for over 17 years and it is my favorite place. Anyone who has a bad experience here can only blame themselves. The Angus Barn will do anything to correct a bad meal, all you have to do is ask. They will even make something for you off the menu if it is available. This place is perfect for special occasions. I never come here for a simple weekend meal. Best service, good food, great bar and wine cellar. Pros: service, food, wine cellar Cons: , expensive more

The Angus Barn 5/27/2004

The Angus Barn goes above and beyond when taking care of its customers. Where else would you find an owner thoughtful enough to provide covers when her diners are too cold? I believe this is one of the finest establishments I have ever visited. You will be treated well at The Angus Barn! Pros: Excellent Service, Wonderful Food more

The Angus Barn 3/11/2004

Last year on my first anniversary I ate at The Angus Barn with my boyfriend. We still dream about the next time we can go eat there. The steak is absolutely wonderful. The server carved the steak at the table. It was so huge. He even poured our salad dressing for us. Truly one of the best experiences of my life in a ""BARN""!!! (There was even real hay in the dining room) Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Beautiful Outdoors more

Overrated 3/11/2004

The Angus Barn just doesn't deliver the level of food and ambiance to jusify the cost. The first time that I visited, there was an interesting assortment of complimentary hors d'oeuvres provided. (cheese crock with various crackers, relish tray, etc.) The last time I was there, that was missing. The steaks were adequate, nothing special. The atmosphere is rather noisy and informal. All in all, certainly not worth the price. Pros: Prestige, Wine Selection, Snob Appeal Cons: , Crowded, Mediocre Food more

Angus Barn 3/11/2004

Not only does the Angus Barn have terrific food and the best service in town - everyone that goes there is made to feel really special. You could not find a better example of truly fine dining more

Recent Visit 3/7/2004

Once again, a great evening at the BARN! It's important to allow this restaurant to take care of you. Make a reservation, use the valet and coat check, take your time. We started off with their rib appetizer - truly the best around. My meal was a delicious lobster and filet combination. Filet is a very lean cut, so I made mine Oscar style - Hollandaise, asparagus, and lump crabmeat. My dining companion and I shared a bottle of wine from the incredible wine list. Service, as always, was outstanding. Remember you are dining, not just eating and running! Pros: Service, Wine List, Food Cons: , Expensive more

So sad... 11/23/2003

I have been to many of the finest restaurants in the Raleigh Durham area. It is amazing how well a restaurant can do by just having high prices. The food at Angus barn is quite poor. Tasteless, average-at-best are two phrases that immediately come to mind. I guess Angus Barn draws its well-to-do crowd ONLY by pretending to be classy. There is a reason why all of these reviews are the same. I do not know where the 8.9 editorial review comes from, but its likely not from actually visiting the restaraunt. Pros: service Cons: food, food, food more

OVER-RATED!!!!!! 11/5/2003

After hearing so many great things about this restaurant and being new to the area, I decided to take the wife for a try! Horrible...are you kidding me!?!?!! Prices are outragous for what you get. Steak was overcooked and charred, wait staff belonged in a McDonalds, Bartenders were rude. I've never been to a restaurant that had so many downers!!!!! You want a great meal for the same price and blows angus barn away....PRIME ONLY, which is 10 minutes from Angus barn is phenomenal!!!!!!!!! You can cut the steaks with a butter knife and everyone is friendly and the 100-300 dollar bill is totally worth it. more

Over everything 9/16/2003

Over priced, over hyped, over rated. Atmosphere is almost picnic table, the wait staff is OK at best and the food takes forever to be delivered to the table. For what they charge for a meal the quality of the food and service should be MUCH better than it is. Two stars max. Cons: price, service, atmosphere more

Happy Birthday!!!! 8/26/2003

What a wonderful night! It was my wifes' birthday, we were treated to fantastic service, a wonderful meal, a sketch artist and a cake! It could 't have been a more perfect night if I tried to plan it, and this was just a normal night for them. It wasn't error free, they know how to bounce back! Our reservations were mixed up and yet within minutes were seated at a table that was if we hand picked!! My wife ordered the prime rib medium rare and it came more towards medium well done. A simple comment to our waiter and he insisted it be taken back, he returned in 2-minutes with the perfect version! Our waiter (Michael) was on top of our every need, but never once did we feel rushed. The food was delicous and plentiful, we left with 4-cartons of left-overs. Pros: Personal Service, Good Parking, Great Food Cons: Mixed up reservation, The night had to end., To much food. more

Course, not fine 8/15/2003

Pretty decent red meat, and lots of it. However, servers are one step up from a diner, and it is a barn. If volume describes fine dining..........check the trough. Pros: nice big steaks Cons: rough hewn more

Overrated 7/16/2003

The service is great, and the food is plentiful, but that's about it. I've had every steak preparation that they offer, and I've never been pleased. I can grill a filet that is more tender and flavorful than anything Angus Barn has to offer, and there are many much less expensive restaurants in the Triangle that serve much better food. The wine list is impressive, and you get a lot to eat, but quantity is no substitute for quality. Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: Food, Food, Food more

NOT WORTH IT! 6/30/2003

I know that this place is a landmark, However, i do not know what the big deal is. I have eaten there 3 times, and I always come away saying ""I've had better"". The food is OK, but it's nothing to write home about. The prices are certainly NOT justified. There are several better steak houses in Raleigh that I would recommend. I've read a number of reviews that support my opinion. Pros: atmoshere, Dessert Cons: mediocre food, way overpriced more

Great service, good food 6/27/2003

I've been to the Angus Barn a few times and can say that I was pleased overall. The service is always wonderful, and the steaks are great. On my last visit, my steak was not on par with previous trips, but everything else was still wonderful. I'm hoping that the last experience was a fluke, because this is one of my favorite places. Pros: service, good food Cons: pricey more

Not Worth It 6/19/2003

I have dined at many upscale restaurants in many major cities and the price paid at the Angus Barn was NOT WORTH IT. I went there 3 times and was not impressed with the quality of food for the price we paid. The service is great but not enough to justify the $120 check for only 2 people. The food was bland; I could have made a better meal at home. more
