Best sushi in Utah hands down! Super fresh fish, skillful preparation, great service! Kid Friendly! 4/3/2007

After trying quite a number of other Sushi restaurants throughout Salt Lake and Utah counties, we have settled on only 1 restaurant (2 locations) where we will actually go for Sushi. We are done with the airheaded waitresses at Happy Sumo, and the careless preparation and non-fresh fish there. We have never had a bad experience at Tsunami ever, and we have been dozens of times now. We go at least 3-4 times a month, and never miss an opportunity to bring a new friend or give a glowing recommendation on Tsunami.\r \r We have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. Our friends who often accompany us also have young kids. The staff have been nothing but accomadating and welcoming to us and our kids every time. If we go in a big enough party on the weekends to the Ft Union location, we even get sat upstairs which is nice since the kids can get up and wander around and play without bugging other customers.\r \r Salem is a great manager. Hillary and Jillian are great servers. We've had countless other good servers, they just don't stick out in my mind as well as these two.\r \r Our favorites include: surf & turf roll (not always listed on menu), green goblin (ditto), sunshine roll, shrimp tempura roll with soy paper (less expensive alternative to sunsine), aloha roll with the jalapeno and mango, crunchy tuna roll, tokyo cowboy, fire breathing dragon roll, montauk roll, and at the very top of our list is the escolar nigiri. I will usually get 4-8 pieces of this nigiri each time I go, so good!!!\r \r The valet parking at the Ft Union location is nice as good spots are hard to come by. Tsunami not only takes but encourages reservations, in stark contrast to places like Happy Sumo where we have had to wait upwards of 90 minutes or be told by an ignorant waitress 2+ hours before close that they won't be able to help us at all. My only complaint about Tsunami is that there isn't a location in Utah county, although their 2006 expansion to Ft Union is definitely a step in the right direction. Pros: Upscale contemporary decor, fresh fish, lots of variety in the menu, talented preparation, great service, take reservations Cons: none! more
