I love that this place has hours and schedules seven days a week. They also have begginers and preschool classes that are great for the energetic toddler. Mine just wants to run all day and we found that a creative outlet like this was a great place to use up some of that energy. It is nice because once they get rid of the energy they are generally better behaved at home. This place works well with the ADHD type child. Their classes are very reasonable compared to other local places. The instructors also offer tons of praise and encouragement.

Artichoke music caters to the folk industry. They carry fine acoustic instruments and are very knowledgeable. They have a many types of lessons to offer and are fine teachers. There is a stage and back room where bands and individuals perform. Most of these require purchased tickets which can be bought at the store. I would highly recommend Artichoke Music if this is your type of venue.

Trade up has instruments for people of all levels. I picked up a 1940's Havek violin here for $150 that was later appraised for much more.
They have both traditional string and electronic instruments as well as a wide variety of unusual instruments and percussion.
The staff is knowledgeable and yet is also willing to say when they don't know the answer or don't have expertise in an area...an trait I greatly appreciate in a business like this!
Trade up also has practice space for rent and is open 7 days per week.

Ethos, Inc. is a music school like none other in Portland. Ethos offers band, orchestra, choir, and modern music for guitar. Our public schools have stopped teaching music but Ethos has begun.
No student is turned away for lack of fund and those families who can afford it are able to get music lessons for their kids at an affordable price by some of the same teachers who coach the Portland Youth Philharmonic and teach music at private and suburban schools.
They weren't around when my daughter was subjected to the violin under her mother's tutalage...if they had been, she might be playing today.

This teacher teaches for PCC as well as on her own. She is very Professional, mature and helpful. Her prices are fair and you must bring 2 cans of balls to your first lesson. She teaches several different levels so give her a call to decide which class is right for you. You can find her in the PCC non credit catalog. I believe she teaches in Rock Creek as well as Gabriel Park. Her name is H Ruff.

We have participated in a few Music Together programs at events in the Portland area. The teachers are energetic and friendly. The musical style is more about feeling and understanding the role that music plays in all aspects of life. It is great start for anyone trying to understand the meanings behind musical sound and for children’s’ first musical exposure.

I have a friend who sees painting other people's creations as "theraputic" so she drags me and other girlfriends to these studios to paint stuff. I have no talent to paint other people's stuff. I have no talent to paint my own. So, for me, Come Clay With mMe is not about painting clay it's about molding friendships...and I'm not alone. Looking around the room each time I've visited it seems many other women are doing exactly the same thing.
So, I leave each time after shelling out 6-10 bucks for an ugly mug or trinket, but spending time here allows me to invest an incompensateable amount of time in my friends.
