If you work close enough get a yearly membership so you can stroll through often. How nice to have a garden right in the center of town, it is walled so all you see is a gate. The strongest element not seen often is the crafmanship of the wood carvings and structural elements in this garden. There is a tea house too so drop in and check it out. There are different exhibits and activities throughout the year, check out the website. Right in China town so it is great to visit and have lunch nearby.

The secret to enjoying all the flower gardens in Portland is in the timing. Even though the landscaped lawns are inviting throughout the summer, the best time to visit this garden is in late June or early July. The hillsides are filled with color from the large mature rose bushes. This park makes a great environment to relax in or to show off to guests.

I just recently made my first visit to the new Tigard Library and I was very impressed. They have an amazing children's section - one of the biggest I have seen and there are so many books that my daughter went nuts!
They even have computers just for the kids and all tons of videos, magazines, book/tape combos- and of course, lots of regular books too!
There are tables throughout for the children to sit and read. It's a great place to spend some time - a perfect place to go when you need to get out of the house, especially if it's raining outside. We always have fun and always come home with lots of new books to read and movies to watch.
The adult sections are great too - I just hardly ever get to spend any time there because my kids love going there so much we spend all our time in the children's section!

This is a beautiful museum that educates about the of forests. They even have a display of an old wood fueled log hauling train that was once used to transport logs. There is associated tree farms and a tram ride as well as a raft ride. A visit to this place makes for a fun afternoon.

The Leach's are so intertwined in this garden and that makes it special. I am surprised at how many have not been there but it is tucked way out at the edge of the city where you would not expect such a fabulous place. It is free but the gift shop and plant sales help keep it going as do the volunteers. It is a great place to volunteer and learn about native plants. The plants are donated so I have purchased unusual plants there. Try to have a couple of hours to just enjoy this serene place.

More
The lighting inside the gym may give a low-budget elementary school feel to Montavilla, but it's a great facility nonetheless. Indoor park, for younger kids, is open four times a week, from 10:30 to 12:00. They have a big trampoline, tons of little cars and other little tikes toys, a couple of slides on big gym mats, and basketball. When gymnastics classes aren't meeting, your kids can use all of the tumbling equipment in the room next to the gym (usually on Fridays?). They have a little room that can be used for birthdays, too, when you rent the gym for a playtime birthday party. The playtime set-up and tear-down is a communal effort. All for only 50 cents per kid! It's a great winter resource. Montavilla also has a great outdoor playground, a wading pool that's open in the summer, and a pool facility for swimming lessons, with a free open swim usually in the afternoon. There are a ton of classes available and a preschool with a pretty good reputation at reasonable prices.
