The sales reps in Charlie's Jeans really know what they're doing! I have so much trouble finding jeans, and usually leave a store discouraged...this experience was completely different. Make sure to take them up on their offer for help finding jeans because they really know what they are doing. This is an amazing place to shop if you are looking for designer jeans. I highly reccommend!
Pros: customer service, next day in house alterations, selection
Cons: none really

OMG this is my favorite furniture store in the world!!! I think new furniture prices are INSANE and this place gets awesome real wood furniture that won't crumble into pieces and some of it is even contemporary stuff only a few years old or something and you pay significantly less. Seriously, I go in here all the time and there is always new stuff that I want. OH GOD I wish I had a mansion just to fit it all in. And the fact that it is non-profit too is awesome too.
Don't listen to the haters, just go to their furniture blog and see all the great stuff and great prices. And everyone there is friendly and professional. SHEESH!!!
www.uhurufurniturephilly.blogspot DOT com - I really should keep this a secret but there is enough furniture here to go around. :-)

so, first off, if you are too lazy to go driving around to every village thrift and goodwill in the tristate area every day, then this is a good stop for you. the prices reflect that they have to do that for you, so while they might not be at the same price scale as second hand stores, they are much much cheaper then NY, SF, or LA vintage prices. i have been to vintage stores like it for years in every major city and much smaller ones, and it actually is priced quite reasonably, especially the jeans, which you can get mavi and lucky's for $9. that is actually the only thing i end up buying there, but i have much better luck there then anywhere else, and now that gas is so expensive i don't relaly go random thrifting anymore.
Pros: awesome, close to my house, hot boys
Cons: no band shirts, on south st, dusty

i would always windowshop at this place but for some reason never went in. when i finally did it was quite a surprise! the staff was very helpful and somehow knew where everything was - they also recommended some great restaurants for me to take my parents! since the store has a lot of breakable items, just make sure to leave your large bag with the staff and ask them to reach something you're a little nervous about handling.
you definitely have to take your time to look at everything - there are great treasures tucked away in every corner!
Pros: great antique housewares, vintage clothing, cool retro gifts
Cons: it can get a little crowded at times

Vagabond has become one of my favorite stores. It has alot of labels that I can't find anywhere else and most of them are priced well. It also has about four or five great lines of dresses for special occasions. I found a pretty dress by Glow (a label I've only ever seen before in some Brooklyn boutiques) that I've worn to three different weddings. The girls in the store are really nice and helpful and the new store in the back is really unique and fun. If I want something to wear that I know nobody else will have then I can usually find it there.
Pros: variety, price, good customer service

Bookhaven has a fine selection of used books on two floors. Look for the stairs in the rear left corner. The owners are aways ready to examine used books for sale, providing twice as much as a credit for more books than for cash.

I just found this place and it is the bomb! for mens vintage. The whole store is all guys clothing. Its in this old warehouse and you get buzzed in and you go into the basement and its like, um...hello? But the store is really clean and bright and the racks are filled. My favorite is the all the westerns- like every kind of western shirt. And some of the craziest weirdest pants ever- I bought a mint green polyester pair that had never been worn and still had the old tags, and paid $40. The owner was super cool and was pulling things out for me. None of that "Oh you're interrupting my conversation" stuff- no attitude like I wasn't cool enough to be there. Prices range. She has some old Levis with the old tags and those are like $100, but what I looked at seemed like normal prices, like what I've seen at other vintage shops in Philly. But definately better quality, everything was clean. Open late at night too! Definately my new fav place to spend my paycheck.
Pros: Cool staff, easy to find stuff
Cons: Out in Germantown

My husband and I just purchased a TV armoire from Ethnics last week and we couldn't be happier! Their furniture is made of reclaimed teak from old homes and buildings so each piece is unique - some pieces are one of a kind. The pricing is so affordable, we're going back for a dining table and chairs. Service was great - they delivered within a few days for free!! Great store, great prices, great service. Highly recommend this shop!
Pros: great prices, value, unique
