It's Electric! Boogie Woogie Woogie! 2/28/2006

I really like small venues like this, I think they're personal and give the fans more opportunity to meet band members. But I can't say I've had great experiences here. It's small and cramped, and the staff isn't very nice about anything. I've had trouble going in and out of the building before, and sometimes you just have to breath or else... you die. THey don't always understand that. But they book a lot of good shows. If you really like the band, go. more

Worst concert venue ever 2/5/2006

I hate seeing concerts here, which is a shame because they can usually book pretty good acts. I can't get over it, though. The actual concert hall part is small, the air is always stuffy, the security guards are complete dicks and are overly physical with people in the pits... everything about this place is just sub-par It's hard to get into a concert when you're so far back you can't see, crammed into a sea of people, or running from a security guard who wants to choke you. Try to avoid if possible. more

Trocadero Theater - Punk Shows and Movie Mondays 8/19/2005

The Trocadero Theater is located in Chinatown very near the restaurant Penang (which I also reviewed, for a good before or after show meal). It has punk shows most days of the week in a charmingly grimy setting. The drink specials are offered most nights making it a fairly inexpensive night out. On Mondays, they show old or current movies which you can get into for $3 which goes towards your first drink. It's a fun evening out especially if you like local punk bands. more

Editorial
  • In Short
The Balcony's interior, designed by local artist Mark Brodzik, pays homage to the Troc's origin as a burlesque theater, with plush red-velvet accents and images of Rubenesque strippers lining the walls. The conceptual approach extends into the men's room, where a series of peepholes above the urinals offer a glimpse of an old-school pinup beauty. The Balcony is a comfortable, cozy bar that hosts shows, screens movies and serves a decent selection of brews.
