When this Greek restaurant open its doors there was no neighborhood designation of Lyn-Lake as separate from Uptown, there was no theater district here, no business association to support a standard vision for the corner -- it was simply Bryant Lake Bowl, Penn Cycle, Bill's Import and It's Greek to Me. Now that the corner has tapas bars, fashion police, urban outfitters, lyrical coffee bars and even a retro relocated sushi bar, It's Greek to Me feels a little out of fashion and tidal washback in the neighborhood. But give the place a break! It has also trived and survived decades of transition because it makes people happy eaters.
Most of the food offerings are old Greek-American and not neuvo-Greek (like you might find in other cities or even at Christos) with such traditional offerings like moussaka, spanakopita, kebabs, and leg of lamb -- all very filling and delish. And you will find lighter fare if you order fish and veggie dishes.
Since the Jungle Theater expansion into the new building next door to It Greek to Me, the restaurant has added an outdoor patio that makes for a splendid evening of dinner and theater and a more modern experience with traditional Greek food. Or grab a drink at the bar before the show.
