If you like movies, don't miss out on the Riverview.
Tickets are cheap: $2 on Tuesdays and during the day, $3 at night, and $4 dollars for midnight shows.
The movies are second run, but who needs to pay $30 bucks for two people to head to the multiplex to see "Hitch" and split a small soda.
The riverview features the best popcorn in town. They use real butter. Popcorn is available to go (for a reduced price!), so the next time you rent a movie, stop by the Riverview for a bucket of buttery goodness.
The Riverview also hosts a number of film festivals. Last year this included the International Film Fest and a collection of oscar nominated short films.
The Riverview is also a good neighbor. This last year they presented the World Series, The Presidential Debates, and Le Tour de France free of charge.

Landmark Theatres in the Twin Cities currently charges $8 for a general admission ticket and $5.25 for a bargain matinee. With the majority of theatres charging $8.50/$6.50, how is the Lagoon pricey?

The Riverview is fabulous. The retro decor is well-preserved, the popcorn is worth the calories, and you cannot beat the $3.00 price of admission.
One other thing that sets this theater apart from all the others in town is the audience. It might be that I favor the 9:50 show time and get the post-bar crowd, but I have had a blast watching people heckling cheesy moments in serious films with a sardonic, "oh COME ON!!" and cheering on movies like 'The Motorcycle Diaries' with a hearty "show us the revolutionary!"(since the film was about Che Guevara). I have almost always participated in a big round of applause for the crazy epic features like 'King Kong.' This isn't just a night at the movies; this is an EXPERIENCE. I can't imagine what a party 'Snakes on a Plane' will be at the Riverview!

This theater is nestled in the heart of Minneapolis' cultural area, in the uptown part of south west Minneapolis. The building is older but still looks beautiful from the outside. They always have very unique films showing--you should definitely go here if you are looking for a fun, unusual night out! Since it is in UpTown, make sure that you have enough time to walk. Parking is pretty scarce, it will probably be a few blocks from the theater. I would not recommend the concession stands--it is not high quality.

I have gone to the film society many times. Usually, I go to see foreign films. I have seen a couple Swedish, one Finnish and some others. It is always sparsely populated, so there are plenty of seats available. I just wish they would get a better sound system. They have something for everyone and students, faculty and staff at any school get a discount.

Regal Cinema is the closest movie theater to me and by far - one of my favorites!
I go here with my daughter most the time - we like to go to a late weekend movie, when it's mostly empty - it's like we have it all to ourselves!
I really appreciate how clean this theater is - right down to the carpets and chairs as well as bathrooms and concession area.
The decor in the theater is nice - it's mauves and other rich colors and the lighting in the actual that re is really nice - this is not a dingy, dirty place whatsoever. You could bring a date here and not be embarrased.
The concession options are your basic: popcorn, nachos, pretzels, candy and soda's. They have specials on snacks now, so they are even catering to the thrifty minded (me!).
I hear that you can buy tickets at a kiosk - I didn't know that - I always buy at the window, which still goes pretty fast (they have 2 or 3 lines). I will have to try the Kiosk.
The theater is right next to a Subway , Holiday Station Store and Super America, so you can get snacks before or grab a meal before or after as well.
Oh, they also have an arcade, but it is pretty expensive - the kids still play there, but remember - I'm the thrifty minded.

This is an older theater. There is no stadium seating and the seats are not the most comfortable. However, the fact that a family of 4 or 5 can go see a movie and get popcorn and drinks for less than $20 is a decided positive. While the movies aren't first run, they're new enough to still be talked about.

I like this theatre because of its location (downtown Minneapolis – great for “dinner and a movie” type of date). I also like that it’s new – meaning seats are comfortable, carpets are not smelly yet (sure you’ve been to one of those theaters at least once). They always have popular latest releases on many screens, and that means one can choose a convenient time to catch a movie. The only drawback is that others like this place as much as I do – hence it can get very crowded.

More
Has our culture become spoiled recently, with the advent of stadium seating, convenient cupholders, mega-screens & DHX sound? Maybe so, but call me spoiled.
The St. Anthony Main theater has a lot going for it - a fun location, great restaurants on the same street, and a prime spot in a burgeoning neighborhood.
So why don't they clean up their act? The theater floors are sticky. The screens aren't just tiny, they're insect sized. The sound is poor. I have never been to this theater once when the sound didn't go out during a movie, or some other mishap occured. The seats are tiny, cramped and low. It's just not comfortable.
If you're going to ask $7 or $8 a ticket, at least make it worth the patron's time to offer comfortable or even decent surroundings.

This theater rocks! We love that it is stadium seating and always very clean. But the best part about it is the free refills. You get free refills on any size popcorn, any size soda, and ICEES! This is great for families - well and when we just go as adults! They always offer great movies at a wide variety of times. This is our favorite theater in the twin cities area!
