Eclairs, Cream Puffs and Donuts, Oh my 7/4/2008

Yes, the glazed raised donuts are wonderful. And the donut holes are perfect for kids, and quite a bargain. But the chocolate iced mini-eclairs are worth driving across town for. The cream puffs are heavenly, too. Apple fritters are not my cup of tea, but my husband says they are the best in town. Don't go expecting a coffee-shop feel, it's not somewhere to hang out. And be warned there are flies in the non-AC bldg in ther summer (but not in the bakery cases!). The homemade, bakery goods are simply delicious. more

Best Donuts in Town 8/19/2005

25 cents used to buy you the best raised-glazed donut in the world. Today, it will set you back 50. This ain’t some yuppie, anemic Krispy Kreme. This is a real donut, the type that has been insulating Minnesotans against sub-zero weather for over 50 years. Don’t buy anything else (except the twister raised-glazed donut); the bakery’s other selections are generally bad. The store has been in constant construction for the last five years. For a while it hosted a pet bakery, and now it is trying to reinvent itself as an internet cafe. The draw of Melo-Glaze will always be its donuts and its campy neon sign. more
