Unique Yummy Chocolate 6/5/2010

I am like totally addicted to this place. Yes it is a bit pricy, but it is the best chocolate. I love finding some cute quirky something chocolate to give to someone just because and the chocolate being so incredible. The funky unique ideas for my friends make going in there an adventure. I look around and get a little something for them and a little something for me; it is a win, win situation for everyone. After all it is Chocolate that makes the world go round! Pros: Great Chocolate Cons: Little Pricy more

A Dream Come True for Kids and Adults 3/31/2010

It's funny to see adults go in here and go gaga...like they do at a bar. ""Why didn't they have places like this when we were growing up?"" they ask each other. Pros: Variety Cons: Parking more

Love this place 2/28/2010

This place is amazing. There is anything you could ever want in chocolate here. Ice cream, cakes, truffles, gifts, even chocolate covered cereal - like chocolate covered Lucky Charms cereal - who would have thought? We always go for ice cream and often come home with other candy. Great selection! Pros: Chocolate Cons: No Vanilla more

Nothing But Fresh Ingredients Daily 1/4/2010

Everyone at the Chocolate Bar is Passionate about their Chocolate Creations and Masterpieces. I can attest that they use nothing but fresh berries daily. My family owns the first commerical berry farm in Texas and I can assure you after many deliveries that I have never seen a stale fruit on their shelf. The owners are perfectionists and they have grown to two locations in the last decade. They offer nothing but the best chocolate you will ever eat in your life. Their cakes, my favorite is Aunt Ettas, is moist and creamy. If you ever have an issue or a question ask to speak to one of the owners and they will be happy to answer any question you may have. They offer anything you could want and if its not on the shelf, you can special order it and they will be happy to do so. They create holiday wreaths for the holidays and you will find unique gifts there for your friends. They have been around for nine years and are well known in Houston and will be around for many more years. Pros: First Class Service and Passionate About Chocolate Cons: NONE!!! more

REACTION TO STALE,STALE,STALE 12/28/2009

Let me state up front that I am one onf the owners of The Chocolate Bar and I understand that my opinion may be perceived as somewhat biased. I believe there were 2 errors made during this person's visit. The first is that he/she was misinformed by one of our staff members; for which I take full responsibility. The second is that there is considerable misinterpretation by the reviewer. Here are the FACTS: Our chocolate covered strawberries are made fresh several times each day. Every morning, the opening Chocolatier pulls ALL of the strawberries from the previous day. There is almost no way there can be any mold on a strawberry that has been in our store for less than 24 hours. Once the strawberries from the previous day have been pulled, they are brought into the kitchen, chopped and immediately frozen for use in Snowberry ice cream; which is one of our largest selling ice creams. In 9 years of business, no one to our knowledge has ever become ill. Again, the strawberries are not stale! I am very sorry that this reviewer had a negative experience. I hope that he/she will return to THe Chocolate Bar. Fortunately, the majority of our reviews from EVERYWHERE are glowing. We work very hard to achieve a positive experience for everyone. more

STALE, STALE products. Buyer BEWARE 12/3/2009

I have visited the Chocolate Bar in Rice village twice with my family and once more by myself, when my work took me near the rice village. My favorite used to be Snowberry ice-cream. I ordered it as usual and was admiring the other creations when one of the employees came up to me and asked me if I needed anything else. Out of curiosity I asked him what they do with the chocolate covered strawberries when they start turning bad (I could already see mold on 2 of them) He commented that the owners of the Chocolate Bar were very smart. Every other night, they have us check the Chocolate covered fruits and take out the ones that have turned bad or are turning bad. I liked that. What shocked me was his comment after that. He said that the owners have the stale fruit cut into pieces and use them in their ice-cream as filling. Imagine that. I was eating Snowberry ice-cream with Strawberries that had been pulled off the shelves because they were not worth consuming. I was disgusted and have wowed never to go to either of their locations again and have passed on the word to all my colleagues at Baylor. I wonder why the Health Department hasn't shut them down. I am definitely informing them. BUYER BEWARE! Now that I think about it, even their cakes are dry, as if they have been on the shelves really long. Pros: Service. Variety. Cons: Quality of product. Deceptive. more

Best Chocolate Cake 11/13/2009

Aunt Ettas Chocolate Cake is the best you could possibly have. Pros: Great Chocolate Everything! Cons: Parking more

AMAZING!!! MUST GO! 7/20/2009

THE CHOCOLATE BAR IS AMAZING!!!!!! I'm not origionally from Houston. I'm in Houston for an internship and came across The Chocolate Bar in a google search. The title gave it away for me. I was sold. I am a huge chocolate lover and love this place. They have candies cakes and ice cream. What more could you want? Pros: Chocolate Cons: The Workers more

Overpriced, Underfresh 5/1/2009

I used to work in a bakery, and I can guess as to how long their items are allowed to sit in the display case. The Chocolate Bar is a very large bakery, and its size and location mean it can safely charge higher prices. However, where its size should mean faster turnover and more freshness, the quality of their deserts is just not that good, ex. dry cake, chocolate-dipped items that remain on shelf too long - stale/dry inside, cookies with few mix-ins that are $2.25 a piece. Deserts are big but not good. Save your money and your calories. Cons: wide variety/unique products, but not great taste. more

You've got to check it out! 3/15/2009

If you haven't tried this place yet then you must check it out. Good chocolate and lots of fun. We always take our out of town friends there and they love it. Good for a pick me up, birthday, or date. Pros: All the chocolate! more

awsome 3/3/2009

I'm a chocoholic and this is heaven. Every cake is amazing and the ice cream is incredible. I have to try everything but no dissapointment so far. Great for after movie going more

WOW! WOW! WOW! 2/8/2009

I have been a customer of The Chocolate Bar almost from the beginning. I have been visiting the Alabama location regularly, and I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the 2nd location in Rice Village. All I can say is Wow!!! The place is out of this world. The service was great, everyone was friendly and helpful. They have a huge window where you can watch the chocolate makers in action. It was not as crowded as the original store but I suspect that won't last for long. Pros: Fun Place Cons: Parking--but what do you expect, it's The Village more

Not happy with the service 2/5/2009

I don't know about this Alabama location, but when went to this new place located at Rice village, I wasn't very happy with the service I got. The price tag for the cherries I was planning to buy was 2.95$, but the cashier tried to charge me 9.95$. Of course I complained about it and after a prief discussion with the manager the cashier told me that there was a wrong prize in the tag and the right price is 9.95$. In the name of the good customer service, I would have expected them to let me buy the cherries with the price marked on the price tag, but that never happened. So I just simply desided not to go back there ever again. more

Best Brownie in Town 10/16/2008

Chocolate Bar is the best place for a coffee and dessert. They have great chocolate desserts. The brownies are the best in town. Lovely decor, very friendly and trainded staff. more

Delicious ice cream! 9/7/2008

We really enjoy the ice cream every time we visit. The smaller size cups are usually just the right size. I recommend the German Chocolate. Yum! The staff is friendly but parking is tough. We haven't done any shopping on the other side of the store but it all looks very good. Pros: Delicious ice creams Cons: parking more

Bad Service - not worth it 8/5/2008

The chocolate ice cream was to die for but the attitude of the staff is not worth it. You have to ask to be waited on. If I were the owner or manager, I would definately enroll my staff in customer service classes or spend the time to train them myself. Part of enjoying your treat is enjoying the entire experience which includes service!! It doesn't matter how good the product if service is not good...most folks won't return. I won't. Pros: Decadent chocolate ice cream Cons: Service is horrible more

Hair in my cake! 6/23/2008

First glance I pull off a small hair on top of my cake. Then first bite and I pull a hair out and think Ok, maybe (hopefully) it's my hair. Then my husband found a hair, and I've found two more - all in one piece of cake! Guess it didn't stop us from eating it (delicious) but come on folks! Pros: lots of choices Cons: hairs in my cake! more
