this place has everything imaginable. i went with my mom the first time. she says her wine is cheaper here than anywhere else in town. i was amazed at all the different kinds of cheese they had. they had brands i had never even heard of. but really it was like a world market with all the differnt varieties of everything they carried. also they helped load it into her car you do not find that many places anymore.

I wouldn't have thought of writing a review about Central Market until my father came to town and just loved the place. He loves to cook and was enamored with the selection of food he found there. I'll admit that I was even impressed. You can find fresh fruits and veggies of every possible variety, an immaculate meat/seafood counter, wines, fresh-ground coffees, a bakery, candy counter, extensive deli, olive bar, and prepared food section. A little like Whole Foods, but on a larger scale. Go hungry because they often have lots of samples to try. A trip to Central Market will run you a few more bucks than your typical Kroger trip, and you won't find generic things like Coca-Cola or paper products, but the food is fantastic. My father made 3 trips during his five day visit! I can't complain because one night he made Chicken Cacciatore and roasted purple Peruvian potatoes.

I had sworn off warehouse clubs because I knew that I spent a lot more than I saved. Then my son's birthday came up, and I heard that Costco had a great train table set. So we joined just to get the train table, and we have not regretted it at all. It is just far enough away from our home that my trips to Costco are not too frequent. About once a month I go to stock up on basics and shop all the cool items they have. They have a great selection of books, movies, and housewares. In addition, their "Kirkland" brand is outstanding for everything from pharmacy items to food. Seasonally they have a selection of furniture, toys, etc. I really like this clean and friendly store.

If you are looking for a different experience while doing your grocery shopping, this is the place to go. The prices are dirt cheap and the quality is above average. Fiesta offers a wide variety of exotic fruits, including mangos, papaya, star fruit, and more. Banana leaves are always available as well as live crawfish, fresh mixed seafood for soups and stews and a large butcher area with free range chicken and beef along with conventionally raised meats. The checkout is not my favorite, long lines without the convenience of self-checkout, but the rock bottom prices and unique selection makes up for the line

I love the new and improved Specs! I could spend hours in there and never get bored!

Ok, ok, anyone who's got half a brain will find Hung Dong kind of a turn-off namewise. Makes you think that they specialize in porn videos [or worse!]... Trust me, if you can get over the initial shock over the name and the pungent smell typical of Asian stores, this market is well worth a trip to Beltway 8 [easiest way to get there].
For a such a small store, they have a really wide selection. They have everything you'll need for your stir fry, udon, sushi or whatever Asian dish you've got in mind. Their full-service meat counter serves up the freshest meat I've had in the US... and their freezers hold some of the most interesting food stuffs known to man [frog legs among others]...
By the way, Hung is pronounced Hoong, still, a pic of the sign alone is worth a visit...

Foodtown is a good grocery store to shop at if you don't have time to look at ads or mess with coupons. Even if you do these things it is still a great place to find bargains. They always have inexpensive pricing on sodas and the sales are great every week. Also a great place to stock up on chicken.

There aren't a lot of places in the immediate area that service alcohol, but Quik Stop is a pretty decent establishment. The place is owned by a really sweet Oriental couple who like to chit chat. The beer is usually a buck difference from places like Spec's and other liquor stores in downtown. If you're having a football game day, I recomend getting some of your party goods from here. The place might look a little shady, but everything is priced low.
