Best

A lot of food for a small price. There's a great outside dining area and it's very quaint inside. I get the Pad Woonsen and i could have it everyday.

Worst

The only reasons I eat at this restaurant (carry-out only) is because it's close to my house and it's cheap. The service is terrible. I usually feel bad if I do not tip the stand...

Great Take-Out 11/2/2009

Thai Bowl gives generous portions that are always tasty and perfect for a night in. I especially like the Pad Thai. For quicker service, place your order over the phone before you leave. more

ABUSIVE SERVICE! DONT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS RESTURANT! 3/22/2009

I used to order from this place all the time and the service has never been good, but today it was unbelievably bad. The girl on the phone was SO RUDE it was like a comedy skit. She hung up on me after repeating ?Oh God...? when I asked (politely) for the order to be repeated. When I called back to ask for the manager she said she was the manager, and the owner, but refused to tell me her name. Their food is only mediocre and the service makes it not worth the effort. I will never spend my money there again. Pros: Not one single redeeming quality Cons: Mediocre Food more

order from Thalia Spice!!! 10/30/2008

The food here is great but the customer service is bad!!! They always cut off my sentences by hanging up, and the delivery time is 20-30minutes more of whatever they say. more

Servers are con artists 10/27/2008

I gave this 3 stars b/c the food is really good. I always get the red curry and usually it's to go. BUT the last time I went with some work friends and ate outside the server added some kind of fee on the bill. I asked him if it was the tip and he said 'no'. When I asked again to explain what it was he just kept saying it was a kitchen fee. We told him we were taking it off the bill and he said that was ok. It was really suspicious. We felt too guilty to not tip him anything b/c we really weren't sure what had happened but I'm pretty convinced he just added a little extra on for himself and hoped we wouldn't notice. more

im so done with this place 10/3/2008

ive ordered from here several times because the food is good and i dont know of other thai places but im about to fix that. it has always taken about 65-75 min to deliver and they are about a mile away. its horrrible delivery. so i tried to order today way ahead of when i even wanted it so it wouldnt seem like forever. i order the same thing every time and suddenly my total is much higher than usual.. so im asking why and he says im too far! im like noooo i order all the time and he says you want food or not and said no cancel thinking maybe they would say ok fine charge me the reg delivery charge.. i asked if they understood my address and he yells 'you want cancel !'and then the foocker hangs up on me. its the worst customer service and i will never order from there again. ever. i will find a new thai place and spent my money there. maybe if no one orders anymore they will get their shite together. horrible horrible horribile Pros: food is good Cons: horrible delivery, rude staff, more

First bad impression and the last!!!! 4/10/2008

I have never eaten thai food before but I had heard that the food was ""ok"" so I decided to go and see what they had to offer. I ordered something that tasted terrible, so I went up to them (because they never came to see if everything was ok) and asked if I could exchange my dish for something different. Instead of exchanging my food they showed me their ""NO EXCHANGE NO REFUND"" policy. They told me that if I exchanged my food they would charge me double!!! I told them that I had never been there before and wasn't familiar with the menu, instead they said that the food must be paid for because they take it out of their paychecks. They began accusing me that it was my fault for not knowing the menu. This place doesn't embrace the concept that the ""Customer is Always right"" I worked for a fast food restaurant for 3 years and I heard plenty of a-holes complaint of the smallest things, but we always gave out refunds and we did do exchanges in case someone misspoke or had no idea what they where ordering, to keep customers happy and to have them come back. This place will not ever make it big with their philosophy of conducting business, eventually this place will be closed down due to the lack of customer service. Apart from that mayhem the kitchen looks really crowded and dirty from where you order and most of the cooks where either not wearing gloves or hairnets, which only made me sick to my stomach. Pros: The other restaurants near by Cons: everything else more

Great value, very good food 6/8/2007

I placed an order for delivery after hearing a positive feedback from friends. The order arrived after about 35 minutes. Everything was very satisfactory. Starting with a Green Garden salad, this consisted of an assortment of veggies such as bean sprouts, broccoli, baby corn and fresh peppers, with a warm peanut dressing. I was very amazed with the quality of the vegetables considering the reasonable price & the quantity of food. Second I had the Red Thai Curry with shrimp. It was a tasty traditional red curry, and I would definitely recommend it. Last, and in this case the least, is the Crab Rangoon. It had a cheep greasy fast food taste to it and could have stood to have been a little fresher. Maybe it was a bad day for the Crab Rangoons at Thai Bowl, however I would steer clear of this item. Pros: great food, great value more

Thai food for the Southwest Side is here.... 12/18/2006

I have been coming to this Thai Retaurant for a while now. I beg to differ about the service, they are very friendly and the food is excellent. The portions are great and their Thai Iced Tea and Coffee. Wow.... Iam so glad that I don't have to travel far just to get Thai. This place is just perfect and I love the atmosphere, bit small but who cares. The food is great. Pros: Hard to find Thai food in the area Cons: Parking as usuall. more

BEWARE OF THE SERVERS 4/30/2006

Great food, but don't sit in... TAKE OUT!!! The food is great, as a THAI Food Lover I think their PAD SEE EW is one of the best I have tasted... as well as their PAD THAI... however their service is deplorable, I dont know if it is about tiping but you can question their enthusiasm and willingness... Pros: Food, Location Cons: Service, Service more

Food a must - Services leaves you in the dust 2/11/2006

The food is awesome. I'm a vegetarian, so opt for the Pad Thai with Tofu. The food is excellent, much bigger portions than many of the other Thai resteraunts on Taylor St. But, the service is really bad. I think its the result of a downward spiral. Their service sucks, people tip low, and they now think that people tip low no matter what, so they make their service suck. If you tip low (I only give them 10%) - they will let u know that they think that blows. Why I tip low? They will come to your table 3 times. To take your order, give you your food, and then give you your bill. Its YOUR job to ask for refills on water, drinks, etc. They never come by and ask ""Is everything okay?"". That's the problem here, but if you can do without service, food is great! Pros: Great Food Quality, Large Portions, Great Value Cons: Service, Attitude, Service more

It's Just a Myth 2/4/2006

The only reason thai bowl is even popular is because of its location on Taylor Street. The food is mediocre - it tastes like any other thai place you'll find. It's just a myth carried among the UIC students and then it keeps carrying down to the next class and the new locals in the neighborhood. The service IS AWFUL! The people that work and own Thai Bowl are incredibly rude, knocking you over and yelling at people. Best bet is to TRY ANOTHER PLACE! more

Recommend....... 1/23/2006

I go there every day except holiday, the food tastes very good, comparing to Thai restaurant in downtown. The server service promptly when you come in. When busy, They try to takecare you the best. I have Beef Curry Noodle many times. It tastes very good. You can not find it in other Thai restaurant. more

Very Bad 1/10/2006

I went there 2times. Each time i went the food was BAD. My basil chicken was so sweet. My second attempt to eat there, the service was a nightmare. The food was horrible. I am def. not going back there. more

Thai Bowl 10/9/2005

The Pad Thai is a must! Thai Bowl was a staple during my undergrad years. It is fairly cheap and the portions are huge. Ingredients are always fresh. The decor is a little lacking, but I'll take that for cheap prices and good food any day! Every time I come into Chicago, I have to stop by Thai Bowl! Service is adequate. Pros: fresh ingredients, fairly cheap, student discount Cons: street parking more

Service is HORRIBLE 9/20/2005

The only reasons I eat at this restaurant (carry-out only) is because it's close to my house and it's cheap. The service is terrible. I usually feel bad if I do not tip the standard 15%, but everytime I have dined in I have had sub-par service. The staff gets MARKEDLY frustrated and any and all requests, and will only come to your table to bring you your food, and then the bill. Not recommended if you are used to being treated as a valued customer. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Quality of Service, Speed of Service more

Yummy Thai food at reasonable prices 8/22/2005

I had the Rama Chicken dish and it was fantastic -- just spicy enough, had nuts and flavorful curry, and I was given a generous portion. They would not let us sit outside even though they were still open and were somewhat rude about it. The person taking our order was new and didn't know what she was doing. Plus they close too early, even though they are located in the UIC neighborhood filled with students. Pros: Food, Inexpensive Cons: Service, Hours more

good food but not the nicest service 7/9/2005

great food especially the curry rice. however really bad service. ordered takeout and wanted to change an order they wouldn't let me change it. it was less than five minutes after i ordered. most of them tend to give an attitude and pick which customers provide better service and at times not so friendly. good food but could use better service. Pros: good food Cons: bad service, no parking more

Great food 11/10/2004

I finally got to try this place out. I got carryout and ordered the pad thai and curry red. The pad thai was very good. I think if I ate there it would've been better. I would definitely go back. Pros: Pad Thai, Location more

Best Pad Thai in Chicago 9/26/2004

This is probably the best pad thai in Chicago. It's in the UIC area, which makes the ambiance kind of ghetto, and the decor/service isn't to die for. The cheap eats and great noodles make up for it. I drive an hour several times at least once a month to get the goods. Pros: Pad Thai more
