I was visually impressed BUT... 11/11/2009

It has been a week since my son treated me to dinner at this very pretty place, however, I have not been able to pass the steak through my system and currently I am headed to the Hospital to have it removed because I cannot breathe. \r I have not been able to eat for a week and since I hate Doctors, I have tried everything else to eliminate this piece of meat without success.\r After this Hospital visit we may be talking Lawyers.\r \r Keet Pros: Appearances were great Cons: Hospital trip more

Good Flavors and Service 8/14/2009

I have been here a number of times in the past and always have a good time. The servers always seem to be more helpful and upbeat here than most places.\r \r Their smoked sirloin is amazing. Their steaks are really good and the sides are full of flavor. We will definitely go back again. Pros: Service, Flavors more

Best Steaks Around 1/27/2009

Ate at this resturant a few times and I decided to write a review. I love the ribeye steaks they were always cooked the way I ordered. My all time favorite appetizer are the onion strings and that pinkish sauce that comes with it. I love this resturant. Pros: Delicious Food, Great Services Cons: Price more

Go anywhere else! 8/7/2008

We should have gone across the street to Logan's. The service was decent; we always had full drinks and our food was on time. I wish it hadn't been. I wish that the service was so bad and the food was so late we would have left before being subjected to it. My sirloin had a decent texure. That was about it. It had no flavor and yet an hour later and I still feel like I'm eating it. My friend's 14 oz. smoked sirloin was more like 9 oz of horse meat and 5 oz. of fat. Had I been sterved his dish, I would have cried. My husband's steak looked the best out of all our's but his only comment was about how sad it is when you save your side for last. I didn't even eat my sides. My shrimp were rubbery. My brocolli was cold. But we are from the south. We know good food and we're nice people. What good would complaining do. It's not like they'd go across the street and get us something better. We picked at it, paid our rediculous bill and left, disappointed and unsatisfied. I'm embarassed that we asked a FRIEND to join us at dinner! Like I should apologize for a restaurant's bad food! We're sitting around now waiting to see who gets sick first. It will probably be me - I AM pregnant afterall. And for the first time in almost nine months, FOOD HAS TASTED BAD to me. Thanks Texas Land and Cattle. Pros: our glasses were always full with watered down soda... they had a fireplace going in the middle of summer in Texas? Cons: everything else... my friend was served horse... more

Good food, Good Service, Visit when I can 2/24/2008

I notice that a lot of the other reviews were from 2003 or so. I don't know if Texas Land and Cattle has gone through new management or what but I have never had any problems EVER!\r I go to TL&C about once a month for the past 2 years and I love it. The bread is amazing, the tea is wonderful and I've neer had a bad steak.\r One time they ran out of letuce and sent one of the employees to get more and paid for my meal because I had to wait. Another time they over cooked my steak and fixed it with no problem and again my meal was free.\r \r Pros: Food and service\r \r Cons: possible wait Pros: Food, Service Cons: long wait on weekends more

Cardboard steak 5/15/2006

ate here twice - both times ordered ""best"" steaks - no flavor. texture okay but they were not good. won't waste any more money more

We love it. 10/16/2003

I am completely baffled by the negative reviews I see here. We have eaten at Texas L&C between 20 and 25 times and have never once had poor food or service. Their Mesquite Grilled Shrimp are simply the best anywhere, and I highly recommend the Trail Quail and the grilled chicken as well. This is one of my family's favorite restaurants. Please give it a try. more

TL&C BOMBS 5/15/2003

I ate at the TL&C in Austin a week ago. The service was good but the chicken fried steak was horrible. The gravy was even worse. Pros: Service, Setting, Parking Cons: Food, Price more

Bad Experience 5/15/2003

So I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out well, well done. I sent it back. Next version was rare, bloody rare. Unedible. By this time we had been there an hour, and still no edible food. The manager offered a free desert. We left. Of course, never been back. more

Low end of the low end steak""houses"" 3/31/2003

Been here a few times, mainly to see if my bad experiences were isolated incidences. Defintely not. On numerous occasions, the steaks were prepared poorly (ie: request medium rare, served medium well) or on one fine occasion, half the steak was cooked medium well, the other half... bloody rare. Upon asking the waiter to take it back, he insisted that the steaks were ""supposed"" to be that way. A manager was summoned who finally sent the steak back. 35-40 minutes later, the replacement steak comes. Just as poorly prepared as before. Instead of being forthcoming and offering the steak on the house, the manager quipped ""half off for half eaten."" Excuse me? Cons: service, food, appeal more

All Smiles 1/12/2003

You'll have to try really hard to find something to complain about with TLC. Wonderful steaks and chops, huge potatoes, wonderful while-you-wait peanuts, and an extra special dinner salad. Great, cozy atmosphere. Not too pricey, either. The discount offer on the receipt is an extra special tidbit, too! Pros: good service, large portions Cons: a little pricey more

Not Where You Want 2 Go For Good Steak!! 1/9/2003

My boyfriend and I ate here last night, for the second time, and the first time wasnt bad, but dont order there steaks, we were hungry for steak so thought we should try here, bad bad bad, they tasted like big strips of slim jim. I mean if i wanted slim jims i cold of bought a 100 of them for the price we paided to eat 10oz of steak a.ska. 3 lil strips, there sweet pototes arnt good, there french fries are probably the best. Go some where else though if you want a good steak!! Pros: good bread, good fries Cons: expensive, lil pieces of steak, not that great more

Steaktastic! 1/1/2003

A great place to eat steak, just the way you want it. Good atmosphere and affordable prices! Pros: good value, great food, good beer Cons: crowded, more parking more

Outstanding Dining 12/26/2002

Best steak I have eaten and the price isn't bad either. For the price I figured I was going to get a 1/2 a ribeye and some fixin's. Instead I got the biggest ribeye I have ever seen and more fixin's than I could eat. The ribeye was a full 24 oz and my plate only cost $18.00 or so. The complete dinner with drinks and 2 meals was roughly $50.00. When I get back to the USA I will bring my wife and kid there. Pros: large portions, cheap price, peanuts Cons: too far from my house, I'm in Germany now more

Texas Beef done RIGHT!! 12/23/2002

If I could only eat at two Resturants for the rest of my life, they would be Texas Land and Cattle near my house and the Texas Land and Cattle by my office. The only bad experience I had was when they took the appetizer Jalepenos off the menu, but they have since returned making a Trip to Texas Land and Cattle complete again. Additionally when my wife is not in the mood for Steak, their Trout is as good as any around. Pros: Affordable, Generous Portions, Fried Pickles Cons: menu changes more

soooo slow 12/19/2002

service was really slow. they pushed the drinks and apptizers. This has happened several times. Plusone time, the table had not been cleaned very well. Sticky and food bits on the chairs. more

Stringing 12/19/2002

The people that work there are very friendly and courteous. The steak there are very stringy and tough. The prices have gone up and the quality of steak has gone done. When it first opened they had good steaks and prices were reasonable. Now it has changed. Pros: waitress nice, managers nice Cons: expensive, steak stringing more

Ride for the Roses 12/4/2002

The steak was superb. The service was excellent. Although we found enchilada's an odd thing at a steak house, it hit the spot as a shared appetizer. We were visiting Austin for 4 days and actually ate there twice! more

so-so experience 10/24/2002

Went when a girlfriend and I went to Austin for the weekend. The bread is fantastic. Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip to start. . . yummy. The rest of the meal didn't go off as well. Both of our entrees were not cooked to our specifications (and we have been to many a steak house and know how to order steak.) I ordered the filet medium-well and it came out grey it was so well-done and she ordered her sirloin medium and the only thing cooked on it was literally 1/8th an inch around the edge. It was bleeding and quite rare. We sent them both back and they both came back to our specifications. Then we tried to pay our bill and it literally took 5 checks before they finally gave us the correct one. We were waiting probably 25-30 minutes just to get the correct check. more
