Su Houston is amazing!!! 5/3/2012

I'm working on a half-sleeve with Su Houston and after two sittings (1st one for outline and 2nd one for color) ... all I can say is ... WOW. Amazing work. All the individual pieces transition seamlessly and I couldn't be more happy. She took was merely a vague idea and turned it into exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait for my next sitting although I have to admit, doing the color hurts. Quite a bit. But so worth it!!!!! more

Already excited for my next one! 9/3/2008

I just moved to Chicago for school and had the idea for a tattoo in my head for many years. After doing a little bit of research I decided to go to Tatu Tattoo for my first. It was my best decision ever. From the moment I walked in everyone made me feel comfortable. Everyone was very professional and within minutes they had my idea on a stencil. Eric Janovsky made getting my tattoo so easy. For my first I decided to go with the ribs. Everyone had told me it was the most painful spot so I was quite nervous and actually shaking a little. Eric made me feel right at home and calm about getting it. The tattoo was amazing and my friends already have an appointment to get their own. If you are thinking about a tattoo go nowhere but tatu! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE 6/17/2008

TATU TATTOO GAVE US THE RUN AROUND ABOUT THE TIME FRAME OF OUR WAIT...WHICH IS FINE. AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF OF WAITING, THE GENTLEMAN ASKED US TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. THE WOMAN WHO WAS GOING TO DO OUR TATTOO ASKED US FOR A DEPOSIT BECAUSE SHE WAS COMING IN ON HER DAY OFF! NO ONE ASKED HER TO COME IN ON HER DAY OFF! AFTER WE LEFT SU HOUSTON DECIDED TO TAKE IT UPON HERSELF & ALSO TAKE THE SITUATION THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HER PERSONAL... SHE FOLLOWED MY FAMILY (MOM, DAD, & SISTER) & I OUT THE DOOR AND YELLED ""F**K YOU""! IS THIS THE KIND OF SERVICE TATU TATTOO LIKES TO PROVIDE?! THERE WAS NOT PROBLEM WITH THE SITUATION AT ALL UNTIL SU HOUSTON YELLED PROFANITY TO MY FATHER. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL! THE SERVICE IS BAD & DISCRIMINATING! Clean facility and talented artists. 6/12/2008

Although I had to wait to see my artist, it was worth it. The shop is very clean and the staff is obviously concerned with safety. My artist, Marci, was not only very talented, but she took the time to make sure I understood the entire process and let me know I could come back for a free touch-up or call if I had any questions about the healing process. more

I was in Chicago on business and decided I wanted to get a tattoo. I searched and read all the reviews on here and decided I would check out Tatu. I have my back covered in tattoo's so I know what to look for and what to stay away from. Pros: Good guys, clean, spacious, thumbs up Cons: None that I was aware of more

Horrible 4/9/2008

I consider a tattoo a very personal experience. Tatu was very nonchalant in their interaction. It was hi, look at the book, come back later. Nobody showed any desire to want to actually perform the service. I left there went to Jade Dragon (per everybody's recommendation), walked in and there was the service I desired. I wouldn't let tatu paint my garage, let alone my body. Pros: Clean Cons: Everything else more

WHAT? 2/23/2008

I came into Chicago from tennessee and thought i would get a tattoo.. I have four already and thought it was time for a new one. So we checked on this website and read the reviews and thought that it sounded like a great place to go. Well we waited 3 and a half hours and still no one was ready to do our tattoos. I thought that was absolutely ridiculuos. Maybe if it was really busy or something it would have made some sense. There was like 6 people there and only one doing a tattoo. Plus one chick was really rude. Needless to say, im a leaving chicago with no tattoo because they told me the wait was 30 minutes and i had to wait that plus three hours. That's all i had to say. Good shop and friendly staff 12/23/2007

I got my first tattoo here by Eric C. I showed him my design and he just polished it up a bit. The tattoo is absolutely perfect. He really makes you feel comfortable and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all. I wasn't out of the shop more than 2 hours and I was already planning my next tattoo. Love It! I got matching tattoos with my cousin, it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought, and they are beautiful. We brought in a couple different pictures, and they looked the same as what we wanted. They made us very comfortable, and it was my cousins first tattoo, she was nervous, but ended up loving it. We chose this over other tattoo places based on online reviews, thought I would follow up since I was so pleased!!! Eric and Su did our tats and though I am sure they are all wonderful, Eric/Su were really wonderful, quick and precise. They were identicle regardless of artist. Prices are very reasonable/cheap. 60 bucks for 4"" by 4"" on our necks. Eric was hot and a pro. I will be going back for seconds, for sure :) I would call ahead and go in during low traffic times, we waited about an hour because everyone was busy, we are just anxious, but this is pretty par for tattoo jizoints. i love it!!! 7/21/2007

I went in today to get my first tattoo of a Chinese symbol on my foot and i was very happy in how everyone treated me there and how the shop looked very clean and sterilized yet very retro. I was tattooed by mike and he was awesome! i have no complaints. He was very professional and always trying to make me laugh. To anyone out there who is looking for a great place to get an affordable tattoo you should really check out Tatu Tattoo. more

I went into Tatu Tattoo with a general design and the artist, Rebecca, designed exactly what I had in mind but just couldn't desrcibe in words. She was simply phenomenal-- very friendly, inviting, highyly skilled...and let my two girlfriends join as she did the work. The shop, itself, is very client-friendly and I would, without hesitation, tell my friends to go here...again, simply phenomenal!!! Great Shop. Great Experience 6/22/2007

My wife and I stopped in to have some work done. The shop is very laid back and the staff is very friendly and professional. Great environment.Su Houston and Marci were our artists. Marci worked with my wife and did an excellent job helping her with her design and getting it in place. Su worked with me and was awesome as well. They were receptive to our designs and took the time to make sure they were exactly what we wanted and where we wanted. Their work was outstanding.We will definitely be going back to this shop to see Marci and Su. If you are getting your first tattoo or looking for a shop to do some work. Tatu Tattoo is the place to go. more

Best Experience Getting Hurt 6/9/2007

I just got some new holes put into me by Erika and she is awesome!! She did a sweet job on my earlobes, taking me from no hole to a really big gauge!! I love it and I love her!! Pros: she's got a very calming room to pierce in more

Real tattoo artists 4/27/2007

I went to Tatu Tattoo with my boyfriend so he could get a new military tattoo. Sebastian did such a great job on my boyfriends tattoo that I decided to have the small gothic dragon on my back redone. Sebastian traced the tattoo that I had and drew up a much larger, very cool dragon that I am proud to show off. I would recommend Sebastian to anyone wanting body art. more

Good Piercer, Good Attitude 3/31/2007

I just went in on a whim, to check stuff out. I had been contemplating getting my nipples pierced for several months. But once I spoke with Erika, I realized she definitely has a great understanding of what she's doing and she's got a great attitude too! I have had too many bad experiences with other piercers being condescending( the Ally, Insight Studios). So, she was like a breath of fresh air! Go get pierced by this lady. Great Tattoo Experience 3/26/2007

This was my 4th tattoo, and my first experience at Tattoo Tatu. I'm not covered by tattoos, so at other shops I'm always intimidated by the artists. But at Tattoo Tatu, they treated me like I belonged and worked with me to design a tattoo that is perfect and exactly what I wanted. The color is amazing and the design is seriously perfect. It was more than I could even imagine. The artist (I think Rebecca was her name) was really conversational and they even let my roommate come sit with me for the 2 hour tattoo. The shop was very clean, inviting and friendly. Other artists came by to see how mine was coming and seemed really nice and compliementing. It was a really great experience and i'm already planning my next tattoo. Pros: Clean, Friendly, Inviting, Professional Cons: had to wait a while, but it was worth it more

All that needs to be said is that this place does NOT treat the customer (ya know, the one who pays the place money for service) right. Total blow-hards here. first time tattoo done here 10/31/2005

i had my first tattoo done here a few years ago and it turned out great. i have a flower design on the small of my back and the artist that did it was a total pro. everything was sterile and well lit inside and while it did hurt a little i'm so pleased with the results i may go back again for another on my shoulder. the tattoo cost me a few hundred with tip but i believe that is standard for a tattoo my size. they have tons of samples up front (mine was a slightly modified sample) and they will basically do anything you want if you have a drawing or an idea of it. since i haven't had any other tattoos done elsewhere i don't know how they really compare but i was very happy and plan to go back. there's tons of retail shops in the area on north avenue you can visit on your trip here as well. my favorite place 10/26/2005

The general rule of thumb for tattoos and piercings is to go to a reputable place. Upon receiving high recommendations from a coworker last summer, I paid a visit to Tatu Tattoo to get my tongue pierced. Three months later, I got my second tattoo. Two months after that, I had my cartilage (upper ear) pierced. My tongue heald with no complications - in fact, the only time anyone could tell that my speech was somewhat off was the day immediately following the piercing, when my tongue was still a bit swollen. I'm very happy with my tattoo - the artist took his time to create the design to my liking. I've since gotten numerous compliments on his artwork. I had some mild complications with the cartilage piercing (due to an allergy to surgical steel); however, the piercing staff was helpful and knowledgeable in giving me advice that ultimately let me keep the piercing. I highly recommend Tatu Tattoo if you're looking into body art - it's clean, reputable, and safe. more
